I can provide some more insight into why the Seawolf clunked....The system had a computer logic problem when aircraft flew very close to each other and to the Radar would appear as a single target....if they then split up the system would crash as it would basically get confused and try to re-combine the radar tracks. Marconi engineers had to perform patches on the system. To be fair to Seawolf it was a brand new system at the time and only 3 ships had it (Brilliant, Broadsword and Andromeda). Its likely HMS Broadsword had the same issue whilst tracking the aircraft that came to attack them and Coventry, however they managed to reboot the system ready in time to re-engage but Coventry sailed into her LOS Radar Lock preventing a successful defence. The Type 64 Manoeuvre (Type 42 DDG and Type 22 FFG combined numbers) was untrained for and IMHO a fine idea under the circumstances....especially with They Type 42's antique Type 965 Radar system which handicapped its air defence ability with a blindfold

Lesson hopefully learned: Never develop weapons that you do not intend to go to war with.

The GWS 25 version of Sea Wolf was not good at tracking low level targets so a back up CCTV guided mode was available in which the operator kept the target centred on the crosshairs of a TV monitor using a small joystick. HMS Broadsword shot down a Mirage on 21 May 1982 using this camera guided method and this kill can be seen elsewhere on You Tube. In later versions of Sea Wolf a better tracking radar was used based on the Rapier Blindfire radar and the CCTV guided mode was deleted.

The text in the opening few seconds is incorrect... "The ship was equipped with the Seacat". It wasn't, but the title is correct.👍

Wrong. First Surface v Surface engagement in the Falklands was HMS Alacrity v ARA Isla de los Estados on 11th May 1982, where Alacrity sunk the Argentinian ship with 4.5in gunfire.
