Fall Canoe Trip Test Paddling Nova Craft's New Special Edition "Clear" TuffStuff.

The Happy Camper, and his canoe buddies Andy Baxter and Tim Foley, head out on a fall canoe trip with Chris Rath, owner of Nova Craft Canoes, to test out their new “Special Edition” Prospector 16. It’s a cosmetic twist on their bestselling canoe in TuffStuff. Nova Craft has been experimenting with producing a “Clear” version of this model - the Special Edition version will have a clear exterior and interior gelcoat, exposing the black and white weave of the TuffStuff. It will appear grey from a distance. Additional features:
black tinted skid plates (included in the price)
black aluminum gunnels
black webbed seats
deluxe ash yoke and thwart
custom greyscale decals

As a boy I dreamt of taking canoe trips like this. Later, after I married this wonderful redhead, her father and I paddled many enjoyable miles in the March Mad Hatter's Race on the Grand River in NE Ohio. Often our jeans froze solid to the bottom of the aluminum canoes we used back in the early 70's. Very jealous of today's tech canoes. Congrats to Chris, well done ! At 77 I will need to have my grown boys step into these adventures. Kevin, thanks to you and your friends for all you do for us armchair adventurers 📷👀❗👏👏

Long Lake Access. I did most of my canoeing in high school here, when it was still crown land. Great spot.

Lovely to see classic design with modern materials - I do enjoy paddling my Bob Special in TuffStuff, but the "clear" does look very cool.

Nice looking boat…so sweet to see Kevin and Angel out for a paddle….I have a 40lb 12 ft Nova Craft….very easy for a senior to carry… have already had snow on the ground here at the north end of Temagami.

Awesome looking canoe and design made right in my hometown Lovely fall canoe trip to do a test run on Nova crafts new canoe with these guys , trees looked gorgeous, food looked mighty tasty the video had it's comical moments lol Andy is a hoot lmao. I have sent the idea to my publisher. We will have to wait for the Top 70 Canoe Route re-write book to be out this spring. Maybe after that they said. However, most of the 10 extra routes I added to the now Top 60 are portage free

Great video Kevin. Beautiful looking canoe. If this was Oct 7- 8, I think I was one camp site up from you. The scenes of the creek, moon and the morning snow are what I experienced.

@@TheHappyCamper No I was across from him at 521. Along the shoreline from your site. I didn't get in until 3pm. So I spent my late afternoon processing wood for my stove instead of having time to paddle around the lake like I usually do.

That looks like a nice canoe! I love Andy's hat! It looks just like a Voyageur toque! Can people buy them from where he got it? I have a Voyageur/Metis sash that I bought from Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park years ago. Would be cool to have a Voyageur toque to go along with it!

I was really looking forward to a thorough review of this beautiful boat, instead I got a cooking show and a bit of the canoe in action. Guess I'll wait for other reviews to decide if this is the boat for me.

Is this a clear gelcoat or just the bare resin, like in Northstar's IXP or Clipper's duraflex layups? It'd be nice if the tuffstuff expedition would lose a few pounds without the gelcoat. How does tuffstuff compare to the above layups? And how abrasion resistant (dragging through shallows and brush) is it. Can I fix damage at home?

I believe it's a clear gelcoat. It's about 5 pounds lighter but they put skid plates on it so it's probably 3 pounds lighter. It's just as tough as the reg. tuffstuff.

Could I get a non-gelcoat, resin only prospector? My complaint with gelcoat is its tendency to chip and crack.

We do the dishes up with soap and hot water in a big pot or wash basin - away from the lake - and then rinse everything in a water bag full of water and bleach.
