@@steelgoodwin Well, if you haven't already, I highly recommend reading the books. The show only adapted the first six books, but there are nine in total. So there's more story to be enjoyed if you want more from that world. Plus there's the "The Expanse" Telltale video game.

Can't wait for this! Gives me some strong The Expanse vibes where ship movement, weapons and factions feel realistic and important. I love the depth of the visuals and sound as well - so well crafted!

Love the new Jump animation. Very cool. Red for outgoing and Blue for Incoming. Wicked. I hope they fix the ships running into asteroids as seen in the OLD footage. That would be same as bouncing off parked cars as you drove down a street. Captains license revoked. lol ;)

That was intentional (not a bug) to show off the physics and how every object is physically present. It’s also meant to highlight that you’ll need to navigate your ships past obstacles like asteroids. Nothing to fix there.

Realism with a game such as this is what really cements me into the universe. To see such attention to detail and dedication to real-life Naval warships, terminology, tactics, and weapons by Stutter Fox through my eyes as an actual Sailor is amazing. Especially with the comms seeing as I specialize in that. The radio chatter is just simply 👌. I truly believe we're about to witness the creation of another once-in-a-generation game like BG3. What a time to be alive!

In the past year-plus, a half-dozen games that have made me go "Whoa, maybe it's time to get excited about games again" are all published by Hooded Horse. I'm really liking the catalog they're building. Honorable mention also goes to Microprose, which I thought had died decades ago, and Slytherine, which is expanding into more real-timey gameplay (their turn-based games showed their passion for tabletop wargaming, but was hard for me to get into personally). It's a great time to be a gamer!

I found out about this around two weeks ago. I haven’t pined for a game this hard since the BSG: Deadlock trailers. I am fearful, it’s suffered multiple rollbacks. I worry this may be another star citizen. I would be perfectly happy with something like deadlock where they release a short initial campaign and then release reasonably priced dlc at regular intervals polishing as they go. Nothing wrong with a small studio doing that as long as they are upfront about it.

Man I'm so curious how it really plays. It looks and "feels" fantastic but a lot of the mechanics seem more visually focused as necessary for the gameplay...I really hope it plays like it looks. Also great sound design.

I am interested in how the different weapons will function. What is the plus/minus of each weapon type? What ship/fleet compositions would be optimal for different missions? My hype for this game is immense. I do hope the wait is worth it. For now we wait for HW3 and have that scratch that itch for now.

If you have digital countermeasures that mess with ranging sensors and speed perception they might not have the data to hit.

@@homeonegreen9 yeah maybe if they are thousands of km away when you have to rely on indirect methods to target and being thrown off by 1-2 degrees will cause you to miss, but they are in visual range right next to eachother lol, you cant ECM basic cameras and eyeballs. Plus, they are moving really slowly relative to one another

Friendly fire should still be a possibility but not at that range. It is possible to mess with the enemy perception of range and speed that could make misses even at close range more possible.

I am making a very similar game in concept but it's not an RTS. Takes place in sol and is more like a budget Elite meets Barotrauma in concept. If you guys have anything you'd want feel free to ask! Just imagine the gameplay loops provided by Elite but made more interesting and you have a basic idea. Any idea is useful and could inspire something else even if its not something I want. Or you could remind me of mistakes done by similar game studios. If you want any tips on learning to make your own games I will gladly provide some insight

I'm more excited for this than Homeworld 3. I don't know why, maybe too much time has passed since HW2 or the fact that it has "space terrain" in it but I'm just not excited for it.

This game looks so promising! If it is what it looks like, and the base-building/ship-building is extensive and is as complex as Stellaris in terms of gameplay, this is definitely an INSTABUY for me! But I refuse to get too hyped for another promising title. I feel like we’ve all been disappointed by recent releases enough to know that the trailers aren’t always what the actual game delivers.

After watching the last trailer, it did get me a little suspicious with how slow the gameplay was…I always get suspicious when trailers don’t show too much of the gameplay. It was literally a ship docking, undocking, and then going to a mining area for 10 minutes. Hmm…

@@joetheperformer The game is going to be slow paced with few units. It's estimated that you'll have around 30 or so civvie and military ships if you're doing really well on the largest sized maps. There is time acceleration, so you won't be actually waiting ten minutes for stuff to move around or get built, but you also have to manage localized logistics trains and intelligence gathering, so a 9001k actions-per-minute spamfest like Starcraft doesn't work lol

@@joetheperformer We think the stations will also feature customization, but we aren't sure yet. I would imagine they do since crew aboard stations need food, and if they have weapons then they'll need ammo as well. Not to mention options to theoretically increase construction speed or supply transfer speed or ore processing speed. It seems getting at least one of each ship type is the current focus.

2025. It'll be the tutorial (possibly) and Arc 1 of the Narrative Campaign; 10hrs of blowing up martian ships in the solar system. Then later on will be Act 2 of the Narrative Campaign; 10 more hours of blowing up martian ships in the solar system, alongside the Skirmish Mode; set up the size of the system, pick your faction, pick the enemy faction, go blow each other up and expand into the system. And finally is Act 3 of the Narrative Campaign; a final 10 hours of blowing up martian ships, but now outside the solar system, alongside the Scenario Editor; making your own custom campaigns, systems, and other shenanigany things like a whole system of clouds to hide in for U-Boats In Space, or a rough copy of that supposed-to-be-impossible-training-mission from Star Trek, or making your favorite star system from fictional media and fighting for it.

That's correct yeah, it's a single developer from Melbourne, Australia, Todd D'Arcy. Oddly enough, I don't think he has been in the gaming industry for long, not for other companies or anything! So this is legit making a new game by himself, but also very new to the game industry, given the effort he's put into this, I can definitely expect this game to be a absolute gem, can't wait when it's in our hands and if it really is just as good and surprises me, I'll definitely be keen to play the next games he makes.

Thanks for the video, and Happy Birthday week. I am a little concerned about this game. Yes, the trailers look awesome. However, I am starting to think they look too awesome. What I mean is....I am noticing a lot of 'bling' I will call it on every screen that serves no purpose to the game from what the trailers show. The clicking on planets and the concentric rings expanding and contracting. The UI looks.....I don't know...wrong. And every battle that I have seen in every trailer, it ends up being a close-up brawl of ships circling each other. This alone makes me pause. I am not slamming this game. I am looking forward to it. But I am afraid that it is going to be a game with a bunch of bells and whistles with bling all around but with hollow game play. I hope its not.

I have been following this game for quite some time. I am concerned by the fact that they have not released a demo or a vertical slice or something. They seem to keep redoing the interface, aesthetics etc (the ships they showed in the beginning vs what they are showing now). My concern is that this is becoming an auteur game that will never be done or will take very long to be released, which is not possible financially for an indie team. The perfect is always the enemy of the good.

The dev has stated that a demo will likely be released shortly before the Early Access release. ATM they're making sure all the internal systems function and are busy getting bespoke models rather than Unity Asset Store models from the beginning. It used to be one person doing the music, then the main dev doing everything else while relying on his own money for everything. Now that Hooded Horse has gotten involved, the main dev has been able to hire a full-time 3d artist to make the custom models. A publisher won't provide money if they feel a game won't be getting released, so the fact there is a publisher involved is a good thing.

The game looks and sounds great. Like others have commented, the game has that Expanse feel, which is really nice, but my expectations remain lukewarm at best. The game might be good, bad, or utterly mid. I don't know, nor does anyone else outside of the development team. We know so little about this game, it makes me feel apprehensive about getting hyped. Like Manor Lords, I'm not going to buy into this game as soon as it enters Early Access. As to what I would be willing to pay for it? Don't know. Depends on what the game offers. Anywhere from 5 to 50 EUR.

Eh, at 19:40 they shot up their own friendly ship which promptly went boom boom, bit of a fucky wucky there that put a lot of imaginary soldiers in a bye bye box.

The other vessel died already. In the direct trailer you can see the escape pod panels deploy, followed by escape pods ejecting. Once that happens it counts as any other 'neutral' object like an asteroid and is no longer a 'do not shoot here' hitbox.

Looks like I was just as wrong about that as I was about OuterWilds... Like When I first saw the demo years ago, it looked kind of meh. And turns out it's one of the best games ever made, providing you avoid even the slightest of spoilers like the plague....

Actually, looking at it the steam store page has major spoilers just in the initial description and even the video that plays immediately, so good luck getting to the buy button without getting at least a little bit spoiled, But I will say this. It's mechanics are as revolutionary now as half life was in the 90s and it's earned it's overwhelmingly positive in steam.... A lot of the fun is figuring out just what the heck is going on....

I can't imagine how much they'll have to spend on voice actors. Although with the modulation to the voices, this becomes a perfect candidate for AI generated voices, I still hope they use real actors for the lines. It's a shitty catch 22 we find ourselves in.

single player only. But yea it is a bit of a bummer there's no multiplayer. RTS's always do better when there's multiplayer. Even if it's old school peer to peer game hosting via IP.
