Buckin thank you brother. Getting to finally meet you yesterday really meant a lot to me and my little boy. You are a good man and the positive energy you put out there is amazing. I could have sat there with you guys at the camper all day and shared stories and talked powersaws and life. I look forward to the next time we meet and I am glad you are getting to get into the wood in our area. Keep on being you Buckin, seriously thank you.

I recently bought a 5 acre property in Maine. 4 of the acres are full of downed trees, and trees that need to come down to make room for pasture. Went and got myself a Stihl Farmboss. Thought I was gonna dislike the work, turns out it’s really enjoyable, and now I’m watching these videos 17:31

I am from Western Pennsylvania originally. I still visit there about once a month, and almost every visit has me running saws and splitting firewood. It's maybe 80% maples, cherry, oaks, and ash. Then there's around 19% is a mix of poplar, locust, walnut, hickory, birch, beech, sycamore, or fruit trees. The remaining 1% is chestnut, elm, sassafras, random softwoods, hornbeam, ironwood, aspen, and others that I can't think of at the moment. To this day, working in tree service in WV and firewood in PA, I have never cut a cedar if you can believe it. I'm not quite sure why. They're around, but I've never had a reason to cut one. PA and WV hardwoods are fun to cut and make very useful products, whether lumber or firewood. They were great for childhood climbing and hanging swings, bird and bat houses, treehouses, and even zip lines. The hard maples make the best syrup. The autumn colors are Mother Nature's most grand works of art. It's a great region to live in if you have an interest in trees.
@chad1755
@chad1755 Жыл бұрын
Wow that's a lot of diversity to those forests. Where we are in southern Ontario, on my dad's farm it's probably 70% maple, 10% willow, 10% oak. Used to have a lot of ash too, but those are all dead now.
@happycamper6352
@happycamper6352 Жыл бұрын
@@chad1755 If you let a field turn to forest naturally in the area I described, it would be nearly 100% red (soft) maple, at least initially. Forests that have been left alone long, long term are very diversified, as are "managed" forests, but red maples can really take over if it's just an abandoned field. Luckily the woods where I'm describing have never not been woods according to the maps I was given when I was researching the area. Just like you said, the ash trees are nearly gone due to the emerald ash borer bugs.

This guy is like watching a world champion pool player run the table ........ the angles, the careful planning, looking for the "leave", the genius of his cutting is truly the art of a great, true-to-life logger. His love and passion for the craft and for his equipment is unsurpassed. Been watching his vids on and off for "free" long enough, just subbed, you earned it Billy Ray, and I mean that. Hoping one day to meet you in person. Until then stay true to yourself and your craft, and above all be SAFE!
@MrTruckerf
@MrTruckerf Жыл бұрын
I thought the exact thing about the pool players. Used to be a pool player, I think his name was Mizurak or something like that, who made beer commercials. On one he is making random shots while talking, then takes aim and shoots whole saying "even when I'm just showing off!" And all the rest of the balls except the cue ball go in. I could see Buckin' saying that when he cuts a tree and takes down several with the domino effect.

Keep on buckin, Billy Ray!! Thought I'd share something I saw on a sign on the way home from work. "We all have 2 lives, the second one begins when we realize we only have one. "After many years working at jobs I didn't enjoy I'm working outside again. I may not be making enough money but I'm happy and I feel I'm a better person to be around. I'm making connections and having fun. Thank you for all the videos on sharpening saw chain. Makes running a power saw so much more enjoyable. Let's me get to what I really enjoy, the challenge of splitting wood! Thanks again brother 🙏 ✊️

Hey Buckin' & Nick, such a pleasure meeting you for a hot second at Bunyan on Saturday in that little pavilion. Buckin', thanks again for all the wisdom you share on your channel. I feel like I'm falling, bucking, and splitting safer and more effectively from watching and listening to you. And without a doubt, I now know how to better hand-file a chain thanks to you. Oh, and you're absolutely dead-on about those Gripo hooks. It's been life-changing for me since I picked one up. Seriously like 90% less hand pain the day after I do a lot of moving or stacking. Nick, I hope your kitchen remodel is back on track and goes smoothly after your sanctioned Bunyan boodoggle. 🙂 Cheers!

Hey Billy Ray! Love the videos, my father told me to watch your KZfaq Channel while I'm not at work with him to learn more about being a Timberwright like him one day. Apparently only a handful of people do this stuff anymore and it's sad because it's insanely fun and an amazing way to make a living. Don't ever stop making these videos brother, this is an amazing art that needs to be saved from extinction. I wouldn't even call it a trade, this is art and it's worth every drip of sweat, soreness, the corns, the callouses, and the blood sometimes lol

Nice! Looks like a fun time. I was cutting a couple of short, but BIG Ash logs today. That was hard going. I thought it was my sharpening job- until i finally managed go get it cracked open. The grain on this butt looked like crumpled paper! Gnarly as hell, and tough as nails. I ended up.ripping 3 parallel cuts 2/3 of the way through, standing it back up.then splitting across them, 1 slab at a time. Worked like a charm! That qood will make killer firewood for my friend next summer!

It is nice to see you in my neighborhood Buckin, I live in north west PA. Also nice to see you recognize the firewood splitting is different here, this is splitting maul country in my humble opinion.
