I am on the fourth book, Framley Parsonage. Boy if you love financial scandals and downfalls, you will love this one. So happy to have found Trollope. I started with Rachel Ray and it drew me in!

I am so glad you love Trollope!! On your other video when you were not loving him, I literally said “Oh No” to my computer ☺️. I have read the Barsetshire series and just finished the Palliser series-both are great although the Barsetshire series is my favorite. If you enjoy audiobooks David Suchet narrates The Way We Live now and it is so well done. I hope to read some of his standalones next year and would love to buddy read Orley Farm in 2020 if that works for you. Dr. Thorne is one of my favorites from the series-so you are in for a real treat after Barchester Towers.

I love Hardy so much too. I am going to finish The Warden this weekend. I hope I love him too. Grumpy old man Ballarat and Bendigo are lovely but am guessing very different back then. Great video 👍🏻

Loving your enthusiasm for our man Trollope. Last week I finished Sir Harry Hotspur of Humblethwaite by him and I enjoyed that. The story wasn't too original- a rich man with no son and heir for his fortune- but it was still Trollope's writing so it was good enough for me! You've made me giggle a bit mentioning his writing on Australia. I've got a book (not read yet) by his mother, Frances Trollope and it's about the manners and habits of Americans. As I haven't read it yet I couldn't draw conclusions but maybe being unflattering to different countries was a family trait! I'll have to get round to reading it and find out! Oh and I also have Orley Farm on my kindle, sat waiting for me for when I finish up some other chunkers first (Bleak House, I'm looking at you!) Enjoy your travels with Trollope xx

Love that I am hearing from so many Trollope lovers. I saw Sir Harry Hotspur and was tempted to include it simple because of the ridiculous title 😂. It seems like there is always some humour in the background with Trollope. That’s interesting that his mother wrote a book about Americans. Apparently she lived in America for some time so might be more qualified with her comments good and bad.

This is how I felt after reading Can You Forgive her? I want to read all the Trollope- even though I’d read The Warden years before I was oblivious to his massive output until watching Steve Donoghue who’s a big fan. I’ve read The Way We Live Now and loved it, it’s so good, and the stand alones actually appeal more, the next one on my list is Ayala’s Angel which I know nothing about but I liked the title 😉. Isn’t it fabulous when you find a new author to love, especially when they have such a massive backlist!

I'm a big Trollope fan too. I've read and enjoyed The Way We Live Now and Three Clerks, and I'm making my way through three Chronicles of Barsetshire. I'm a weirdo who actually liked The Warden quite a bit. Of the standalone novels I've read, I would give the edge to The Way We Live Now, but both are totally worth it. Trollope was an interesting character, I'm impressed with your sleuthing!

Detective hat on over here. Interesting and quite cranky he was wasn’t he. Anyway there’s a lot more of his reading I can’t wait to enjoy. I loved The Warden too. I think my mindset wasn’t in the right place when the dry church politics was hitting me at the start of the book. I am LOVING Barchester Towers. Glad to hear from someone who has read those two books x

The good thing about reading Trollope is that he was a prolific writer so it can take years to read through all his books. I wish it had been the same with Hardy and Gaskell. I'm up for a buddy read of any of his works when you have the time.

_The Way We Live Now_ is the Trollope I remember the most. It's been an age since I've read his books. Trollope was reported to write a set number of words every day (1,000, I believe), often while on horseback in between towns while doing his postal service job. No idea whether that's true or a literary myth, but it inspired me when I was writing.

Yay! I just finished The Warden today. It was my first Trollope as well. I may move straight onto Barchester Towers.

I’m only 80 pages into Barchester Towers but that 80 pages is so good and such a lovely way to pick up things after The Warden that I would highly recommend picking it up straight away. Some of the characters that have been introduced are nuts! In a good way of course

I've not read any Trollope but really curious to give him a go now! Shame Victober is almost over already :( Haha, that's a nice bit of trivia about his celebrity Australia visit! Sounds like he wasn't impressed...

Interesting video on Trollope. I've persevered with The Warden and have ended up loving it, so will definitely be continuing with the series. I'd love to do a buddy read (next year?☺) of Lady Anna and/or The Way We Were.

I'm still reading 'The Warden' on your recommendation and enjoying it. As you like books set on farms and in rural settings, I'm wondering if you have read 'All Among the Barley' by Melissa Harrison? The book is set in 1930s England, but Harrison is a young contemporary author, and a nature writer for 'The Guardian'. The book has been well lauded, and I personally found the praise to be justified. The descriptions of the countryside were especially beautiful. She has another book, called 'At Hawthorn Time', which I haven't yet read, but it's on my TBR.

“The Way We Live Now” is probably one of the best costume dramas made in the UK. David Suchet is excellent in it. I bought the book but haven’t read it yet. It is a tome.

I’d just finished Middlemarch and discovered George Eliot’s work and loved it. I still have to read Anthony Trollope - wonder what he thought about the French LOL I will read him next year maybe before the next Victober. My next read is Vanity Fair. Glad to see how much you enjoy your readings and I will probably start with the same series.

Oh wow good on you for tackling Middlemarch and loving it. I am yet to work up the courage. And enjoy Vanity Fair - I cant wait to pick that up eventually... Too many books and never enough time

@@NatalieMeree yes I know - my big help for tackling down this huge book was my Kindle - I've found it much easier to read (bigger font and lighter weight) I'll be doing the same with Vanity Fair

When I heard that Charlotte Bronte disliked Jane Austen it almost put me off reading Brontes altogether, but I'm glad I pushed on. Trollope is worth it!

Oooo the rivalry. I didn’t know that. It’s funny the little stands that are our first impulse that, if we don’t get over, may mean we could have missed out on lovely things. I couldn’t believe I got that offended by Trollope’s comments over 100 years ago 😂 And yes I am finding he is so worth it

The same thing happened with me and Charles Dickens - Dickens hated America. He even went as far as to insult us (in a really backhand manner) in his books.
