You ever fall in love with someone in your dream, but you’ve never actually seen or met that person in your life? Yet you crave to love them..

I didn’t fall in love with him but I almost did. I met him in university, at first he was just a classmate, an interesting one. He always had thoughtful opinions about everything, I was intrigued by his beliefs, interested in his way of seeing life. One day I looked at him, and suddenly he was the most attractive and handsome man on earth. He looks like he is out of a book, everything about him is so beautiful that it’s hard to believe he is real. Every little detail I know about him makes me like him more. But he has a girlfriend. And, he loves her. I’m nothing in his life, just a nice classmate. His heart is devoted to another woman. You can see his eyes shine every time he talks about her. But that’s ok. In the end, I don’t know him at all, he is just a classmate for me too, I don’t know anything about his personal life, or how he truly thinks. I have come to realize that I never loved him but I was obsessed with him. He made my heart beat faster, made my life more intense. Every day, I wake up and wanted to see him, and imagine what would happen if we talked. I’m more than that, I also have a life, and the way that everything started to revolve about him wasn’t healthy. I need to work on myself, so I can feel in peace alone. I’m a really sensitive and passionate girl. I feel things deeply, but that isn’t an excuse to this obsessive behavior. I’ve been working on myself in therapy, I started to read more books and trying to not think about anything when doing exercise. I realized that a lot of things that I admired and liked from him are some dreams or goals that I’ve always wanted to do but never tried. I’m going to start piano lessons and read even more books, I will make myself stronger and happier. Instead of being hopeless and miserable from this situation, I’m going to be stronger, it was a lesson that I needed to learn in order to grow as a person.

I met a girl in my university days and immediately got a huge crush on her. We were in the same lab group. The more we worked together the more I realised I was falling for her. This was the first time I was falling truly in love with a girl. We talked a lot, we hung out. I started changing my schedule so I could increase my chances of running into her. Everyday that I could talk to her was a great day for me. Gradually our friendship grew and we became best-friends. As our college years progressed we did not have classes together since our majors were different but we did hang out. Some of our friends started spreading rumors that we were in a relationship but I never confirmed it, neither asked her out. I was too afraid that I would lose her if she didn't feel the same way. Once she did ask me if I was in love with her but I was too scared to say yes. In my pre-final year I started focusing more on getting a great internship but my feelings never died away. After I came back from my internship I started avoiding her. It was too painful for me to continue this friendship. My mind had a few other priorities now i.e. my career and that did provide me some relief from always obsessing about her. So I thought the best way forward is to slowly forget her. Gradually university got over and we started our jobs in different cities. We kept less in touch. Calls became texts and gradually those decreased in frequency. After all these years I can say that yes I will always love her deep down and I feel sorry that our friendship could not change into a relationship. I'm pretty sure from the way she talked and behaved with me that she started falling for me when I was avoiding her post my internship. So I guess it was all bad timing. I'm hoping that loving someone so deeply won't be this painful everytime. Maybe it was wrong of me to not take any action and keep waiting indefinitely. I hope to change that if I'm in a similar situation again in the future. PS: I have never told my story to anyone...not even my closest friends. Thanks OP for providing a safe space.
