enjoying another one of your old videos. i dont always comment. but hearing you talk about cancer. and your mother in law dying etc and being a fellow outdoors man and video maker of our adventures. i had to comment. i lost my dad to cancer in august. well before he died. when i found out he was terminal. i had to get out in the forest to clear my head. i had a hatchet he gave me with me. didnt plan it but i made a epic lean to shelter. and used it many of my videos. visited it snowshoeing in my video i made yesterday. but i built it the day after i found out he was terminal. finished it after his trachea surgery. then after he passed. i spread dirt from his gravesite i took the day after the funeral. i spread it inside the shelter on the floor. etc. so it is part of my shelter. just wanted to share that story. sorry for your loss. cancer is hard on a family. ok back to your video. hello from mt hood oregon.

I've been watching your older videos out of order and knew what would happen, but seeing this one after the loss of your mother in law really touched me. Not only that but also your other subjects in the episode, your love for your kids, your appreciation for everything that nature has in store for us if we just keep our eyes and hearts open. It was truly one of my favorite episodes. Thank you, as always, for sharing your adventures with us.

Sometimes a getaway hike helps to center your thoughts and mind. Everyday is an adventure when you have children. Our childhood shapes our "adulthood" and our ancestors gives us our history. Thanks for sharing your history and experiences. May God bless you and keep you safe from harm in all your adventures no matter how small they may be. You have touched a deep meaning of life keep expressing yourself just as you are. No words can express the gratitude and honor I have for you.

I liked the video very much, I like all of them and have seen most of them a few times I grew up across the road from a wooded area. My brother and I played mostly in the woods. We even ate our lunch there, I learned to climb trees there also. We were poor but we didn't feel like it.Playing outside even when it was cold and snowing we loved it.Our mother had to make us come in and those were some of my happiest memories. .

I am aware that you posted this 9 yrs ago but I wanted to weigh in on what our childhoods were like. I’m 69 and grew up in Evanston, IL. There were a lot of kids and we would run all around everyone’s backyard until we were called to come in. No fences. We did love to watch a few shows on Saturday morning like Flicka, Fury and Sky King. It was great. Your observation about watching videos in stead of being outdoors is giving me pause, Luke. Love all your and Susie’s videos.

This video struck a chord with me..my big brother Ron passed away in 2009, it was 3 long months in the hospital...he was the one I did outdoor adventures with..every night at the hospital we would watch Survivorman until his pain meds kicked in. It was the hardest thing I have ever experienced. I am 55 and live with MS,but for the last 2 days I managed to go for a mile or 2 walk out in the forest at a nature reserve just on the outskirts of our city. Thank you for reminding me its the quality of appreciating the beauty in the outdoors. All the best to you and your wife...since this video is older I hope you remember your Nana with fond memories .... be safe and enjoy

It's been such a treat to see your videos because it reminds me of my childhood. I am like y'all and spent it always outdoors. We didn't have woods near our home but the cousins and I spent as much time as we could outside playing. For me I actually, odd as it may sound, feel like I've come home when I get into a forest, as though id been away from home for ages and it was good to walk in the front door and see the comforting and the familiar. Great trip Luke! Loved it. Be well brother Craig

To me, and many other outdoor enthusiasts, a dance is a celebration.... So when your friend dances around a favorite tree, or rock or anything else for that matter, she is celebrating the experience. Just like the happy dance that many hikers do when they reach a summit. I can not believe the colors that you have in your fall. We have colors here when the aspens change but nothing like yours. Reminds me of a Skittles commercial LOL. Just so you know, I have watched my mother die of breast cancer and more recently I watched as my father died of congestive heart disease. I truly feel your pain my friend. My condolences to your wife and you. Fire.... I was not able to have a fire while camping since late Spring due to the drought caused fire restrictions in my area.. Just now had one last week at my camp site. And it was so good! My childhood sucked. My adulthood is great. Never had children of my own. That was my decision. I've always had a dog. Works for me. Thanks for the adventure Luke.

I have been saving this adventure for a while. No reason that I can think of, until now. I just saw the part about your mother in law. Very emotional for me, as we went through almost the exact same thing with my Grandmother. Her legs were so swollen and painful that we had to give her liquid morphine. She also passed away in the middle of the night in her sleep. We all wish you and your family the best. Also, back to your dinner. Couldn't you have cooked the meal in the package in hot water.

Hey Luke, Great video and overnighter my friend...I know your not seeking any sympathy, but your campsite story about Susan's mother brought me to tears right along with you bro... Our loss of family members, is so tough for us all to bear during that time... And truly my deepest sympathies to Susan, you and your family for your loss last month... My family, I and our mother lost our dad to a long 12 year bout with altzheimers disease which led to finally his heart just quitting on him in their home, the end of May 2010 and my mother and I were there with him that night, when he blessedly just fell asleep and passed away... My belief and faith, like yours, tells me and comforts me, that there is more on the other side of this life to, my friend... I love your channel and adventures and learning more about the equipment you use... Your a very honest, down to earth, kind of guy and that is what first attracted me to your channel in the first place, this year... I am now 61 years old with a couple of minor health issues, but love walking, hiking, exploring nature, every possible way and chance I can get... A lot of that was instilled in me, at an early age, from being a boy scout, with an awesome scout leader in my youth and learning so many hiking, survival and bushcrafting skills doing so... We grew up, my four younger sisters and I during pretty rough, financial, family, times, but as you mentioned, we were always fed, sheltered and happy as a growing family... And growing up, my younger sisters and I would spend endless days, all seasons, of the year, with special permissions from our neighbors, exploring and hiking all over their 20 acres of woods and steep, hilly, property... We were allowed to fish or frog gig in a large pond they owned any time we wished and see beaver, racoon, deer and porcupines almost every time we went hiking... We all would imagine and imitate we were doing all the things Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn experienced in the book... :-) Just felt like sharing my and our story a little bit and our adventures growing up some, with you here and I apologize this came out so long...... :-) Best Wishes, Strength and Honor and God Bless You and Yours Always......Dana~

Did you almost brush your hand over a spider!? I love your honesty when you talked about your mother-in-law. Going out in the woods is such good therapy. I admit that I am Trying to give him a hint about what he could do instead of wasting his free time. I watch all your videos and my little granddaughter likes to watch when you and Susan take trips.

“Times are going to be tough, without a doubt...a storm is coming” I don't think you could have imagined just how correct you were. 2020, the year that just keeps giving. It feels weird, nostalgic I guess, watching videos filmed prior to 2020.

I am so, so sorry for your loss, man. Please give Susan and your families all my best wishes. May your nana rest in peace and move on to a better place. I hope you and your wife can spend some time outside together and help each other get past this. My mom recently won her battle with cancer, and I am so thankful everyday for her. She's a wonderful person and I love her so much, and it hurts me to see people lose their parents or loved ones. Much love and good wishes and thoughts from me to you and yours, -Dave

Wow Luke, my favourite trip yet. I agree that a "spirit" from the bush recharges you when your out in it. Hope your family is coping with the loss of your mother in law, Thoughts go out to them. The countryside you hiked in this trip was stunning thanks for showing it to us. Cheers mate.

Childhood was hanging out in woods, following creeks. Fishing in our farm pond, and camping by pond in a bright orange dome dent lol. Family vacations were tent camping for a week, swimming creeks. Fond memories of my dad cooking on a Coleman stove all week.
