A woman owns a salon in Malaysia. She lives and works in Malaysia. Singapore dollar conversion rate has nothing to do with her salon. It's not like she's doing international trade while cutting hair. CNA said she had to leave Singapore in order to have a family... maybe CNA can do an update on their ultra low fertility rate, or perhaps their unaffordable housing that drives people like the salon owner to go to Malaysia with her skills.

yes it does, because Malaysia imports a lot, including necessities, as shown by the following self sufficiency ratios: Beef/Buffalo: 18.9% Vegetables: 46.7% Fresh milk: 56.7% Rice: 65% Fruits: 77.4% Fish: 91.7% Chicken meat: 99.9% Eggs: 114.4% Only the demand for chicken, eggs, and fish are fulfilled by domestic Malaysian production, the rest needs to be imported and drives unavoidable exchange-rate induced inflation.

For CNA to make this video interviewing somene who's complaining about less overseas trip where they can only afford 'cheaper' Malaysia places as if Malaysia is any less beautiful is just so so so far from the reality of the rising cost of living faced by millions of normal Malaysians who can't even afford a passport, let alone contemplating oversea trips as the cause for complains. Malaysian just don’t saved much because of our weakening ringgit, we tend to spend our ringgit away as our spending power keep on decreasing, it is the same with high tax country where it is better to spend than to save

As a Malaysian, earning in ringgit right now is very difficult and the pinch can be felt. I used to live a comfortable life but am now more cautious about my expenditure. I'm slowly reducing my ringgit holdings and transferring them into US stocks and Bitcoin to hedge against this terrible inflation and to preserve my wealth, so to speak. This is my indefinite plan moving forward - lessen my exposure to Malaysian ringgit increasingly.

In Singapore, it is not crucial to buy a car as the public transportation is adequate and affordable for people to travel to all destinations compared to big countries where one needs a car or vehicle for their transportation. The billions loss by MAS has helped Singaporeans in inflation and not a pain to it.

totally correct, SG has a highly financialized economy much like U$ and EU, so both have strong exchange but for ordinary people even though they earn more money in SG, relative to Malaysian but this benefit is greatly reduced by their buying power, everything in SG, services, basic necessities, rents, cars you name it are many times more than other ASEAN neighbors.

Malaysian Headline inflation is still one of the lowest in the world. Bank Negara has done historically well, to keep the inflation rate low in an economy, which is resource-endowed and also benefitted from the industrialization of the 1980s and early 1990s under DR M. Malaysia has the foundation, a very high rate of domestic savings (around 40% of GDP) and the human resources to compete. About the currency, after the AFC, the ringgit was pegged to the dollar and that reduced hedging costs for businesses and consumers. I think Bank Negara needs to revisit some of the policies it embarked upon after the Asian Financial Crisis. That brought macroeconomic stability and reduced systemic risk too!

People that benefit msia downfall are workers travelling to fro myr - sg for work daily. Even a blue collar worker can comfortable pay up 1 landed house, 1 mpv alphard/vellfire, 1 daily toyota vios, 1 daily ysuku moto, 1 weekend cbr1000 moto and wife reserve land in the kampung...try that if u are working earning myr livin in myr or people working in sg, staying in sg. All the red tapes, high cost and control make it unbearable...

Economy is is not difficult to understand if we read the right articles, now look, the currency strength of any country very closely tied to the central bank's interest rates to certain extent. Since US and Singapore have increased their interest rates to 5% and 4% respectively, Malaysian currency will surely depreciation against these 2 currencies because ours is only 3%. If Malaysia to increase the interest rates the ordinary people on the road will get a direct hit where you need to pay more to service your housing loans with no alternatives. If Malaysia does nothing to the interest rates, we just need to pay more for the imported goods which is still tolerable because we have other alternatives to buy domestic products and sevices. Therefore Malaysia takes a more pragmatic approach to keep the interest rates as it is to save the ordinary people. The only mistake Anwar may have done is, he did not explain this situation in a layman's terms to the press.

1.US interest rates rising (malaysian Ringgit rely too much on the USD).... 2. Arbitrageurs trying to gain a buck by buying and selling the Ringgit at the market 3. Ringgit is not pegged by the Malaysian central bank as oppose to SGD and HKD so ringgit much more volatile..

Increasing goods prices is global, even in a stronger currency Singapore ; a falling ringgit certainly contributes to some of the increased cost but mainly this is attributed to supply chain disruptions, less of the falling currency. In fact if anything a weaker currency is beneficial to exporting countries like Malaysia. In the case of the salon, weaker ringgit meant more inflow of Singaporean customers; Also, given most of their products were imported from China, currency rate is not likely to be the contributing factor to their increased cost because the Chinese Yuan and MYR had a stable forex rate past 2 years

Hate to say this but the Singapore dollar being strong hurts their own country as inflation impacts all the people over there in some way or another ... Malaysia needs to do something to something about their currency..granted inflation is also hurting them but their economic policies that they have in place I feel really is a major impact on their foreign currency rates...not to be selfish...me being US citizen married to Malaysian citizen...i get a great exchange rate of over 4+ ringit to 1 USD and thats good for me...

You should read books on economics to understand why an inflation rate of 1.9% is better than 4.1%. Not many people understand this.
