I love Junk Walls because they are visually interesting AND look like actual defensive structures but they never snap and you end up with gaps that raiders can get through quite easily. I love the look of this and thank you for talking about the different pieces it works for. I can finally make a proper-defensive looking post-apocalyptic wall now. Thanks!

I dont know why devs in games are usually so overly restrictive with collision meshes when placing stuff the player builds himself. I mean, if things are intentionally allowed to clip into each other a TINY bit just for ease of placement, would anyone seriously say "LOL DIZ GAME SO BUGGED OMG SHITTY GAME" because of that? No. Im pretty sure most players would prefer that freedom to having extreme collision mesh safety where you cant even place walls next to each other without huge gaps of empty air.

Fuckin' bless your heart for these videos. I'm going to go completely take apart Sanctuary and rebuild it from scratch using all these tips you've been sharing. Building has been such a pain in terms of making the houses look decent and I really thought there was no hope in making an aesthetically pleasing settlement.

the big gate works with the rug glich you just have to use a few rugs stacked and then place the gate hinge on the mat

I'm on xbox one and the rug glitch works fine. All current updates

4:24 The tire junk fence is placed from the back. You don’t like the look. Totally fine. But consider this. I think the “bump out” from the tires in the front gives some useable cover, in case you’re out front, and get caught in a firefight. During settlement attacks, the game will put enemies inside your base. If you get a message to defend it, and run back or fast travel, the game will do a calculation for how long it took you to arrive after the attack starts, then spawn enemies inside your base based on how far they could’ve travelled. It doesn’t matter if you have a maze guarded by missile launchers at every entrance. The game figures out how far inside your base to place enemies by how the crow flies. This highlights why the Vertibirds are so great. They get you places fast. Fast travel isn’t fast, it calculates how long it takes to walk, then advances the clock to match. So if you want to have yet best chance to catch enemies outside your base, hop a Vertibird as soon as you get the notification for defense

The rug has to be placed in a very flat surface... So if you are having issues, find a very flat location to place your rug and your junk fence etc.. Red Rocket the flattest place is by the Armor Station... I had much issues until I found a nice flat surface...

Bethesda has not patched the rug glitch on Xbox. Still use it all the time. Love the channel... model most of my settlements based on your videos.

It all works fine for me on Xbox, plus the junk gate and normal snapping walls works for me as well. I use three welcome mats then use a larger rug, makes the whole process a bit more forgiving.

I really hope Bethesda patches in the ability to snap junk fences. I hardly ever use them because it takes forever to manually move every fence piece into place using the rug glitch.

have you seen how to put doors in without the doorframes? you have to use a door frame, place the door, delete the frame(or just move it away) put a cement block next to the door hold and select both while aiming at the cement. Then adjust the height of both of them now get rid of the cement block. use the wire fince and put it perpendicular to the door, now you can move both of them and place the door in the games pre existing door frames and it will work once placed. I know it's a long process but it looks really good

So I have a question. I wanted to build those fences around the whole of Sanctuary, but there are some parts which are just hills so there ends up being giant spaces under the walls (since they dont tilt at all during placement). Do you guys have any suggestions on how to deal with that?

I got the rug glitch to work on the Fence Gate. Just put one rug beneath the point where the two gates meet eachother in the middle of the gate.

now I can stop filling the gaps between junk walls with godDAMN STEEL POLES

Hey Davey, great videos! Just wanted to ask if you have found a way to prevent the sinking that occurs when using the rug glitch? Doesn't seem to happen to the junk fences in this video, but as you discussed in a previousone, objects like the terminal end up in the floor. I recently built a great chem lab, and when placing a cabinet, instead of it sinking, it actually raised higher and fitted much more snugly into position than i expected. Then, why I tried to do the same on the opposite side of the room (i am a sucker for symmetry) , the cabinet sank as is normal. Have you found a way around this? or is it only the junk fences that do not sink? Thanks mate, keep up the great work! Very inspiring.

Rug glitch works fine on Xbox One for me. Also the mat glitch does work for the junk gates. I use the large rug at the far right of the slider to get it to work more consistently. Those junk door frames definitely don't work though =[

I wouldn't worry about getting the junk fences perfectly straight because in the real world they would be anything BUT straight! :)

norespawns iv used the wire fence to move the junk gate through concrete mate that and the picket fence post as well works the door will move regarless iv got small floor pieces going along mine and it still works

Also, walls work if you have two or more snapped together. I've done it many times!

Im on xbox and the small rug glitch only works for me when i do the cover for the houses in sanctuary other then that i have to use the big rug for the walls because the small ones don't work for me for some reason but im going to try again since seems xbox users are saying it works. for the gate you can use the big rug and you can just put the gate on top of the big rug it does not have to be touching just above it and it will work.

I have Fallout on PC and XboxOne. Both updated with newest patch and rug glitch works on both...

it does work on xbone and so does the gate i just placed the rug under the concrete block part of the gate p.s. thanks for these videos it actually made me want to build in fallout 4

why dont you use the rug glitch to put the gaurd tower at the very edge of the foundation? that was it increases your floor space and you can get it to stick out over the wall.

works on xbox but its very difficult to pull off when i'm not on the flat foundations in sanctuary. and i already built over most of those :/

As far as I know, the rug glitch works fine on Xbox. They may have been trying to use it with items that are known not to work. I use the rug glitch a fucking ton on Xbox.

I found that I can't seen to get the glitch to work like above. As in under the fence. I have to put the rugs under the support posts behind the fence...which isn't too bad until you get to a hill or an uneven surface, now the fence will float. lol.

the giant junk fence that opens works for me ps4 u have to put the part that connects to the ground (not the gate part ) onto the mat I used a mat connected to a rug

I've been able to use this technique on Xbox One but it is extremely finicky. If I stack a few rugs to do the glitch, the initial rug I placed will never select all the other objects. I always have to pull it to the side and then use the second one I placed. Can anyone else corroborate this or is my game just being special?

I believe the ground must be flat as hell but even in this case it works only 1 of 10. It looks so easy in your videos. regarding the rub glitch, does the part/structure you are trying to move and merge actually have to been directly on the rug?? Or just very close to the rug as was the case when you were patching the walls/windows and replacing the roofs on the sanctuary houses? I've gotten the big junk gate to work with one little mat, all you have to do is make sure the gate is shut

In literally copying this point to point, but they walls won’t turn green ? What am I doing wrong ? Are you group selecting ? Or just carrying one mat ? If I select just the mat it doesn’t take the fence with it ?

On Pc it's so much easier. You go into the console and type tcl to turn collisions off, then select and deselect any object. That object is then ignored and you can clip other objects into it.

For some reason it's hardly working for me.. place the two rugs as per and when I go to drop the junk fence on top it goes red.. I've tried everything.. (Building in Starlight) I dont understand why? is there a trick? Am I missing something?

Yo Davey, thanx for the tips its really helped my Sanctuary look a 100x better than before. However, this clipping glitch doesnt seem to work well with Junk Fence Doorways, and I have to use the "rug next to object" technique instead of the "object on rug with stairway of rugs" technique (hopefully you know what i mean)- which doesnt really work well. Do you have any tips regarding this? I want to make a pathway through my fence leading to a sniper post.

I'm on xbox1 and had a mare trying to place junk-fences at County Crossing. You know the strip of land near the water - between the derelict house and small shack. That mound of earth just wouldn't let me use the rug glitch on it. But I was only using 1 rug. His is the first time I've seen 2 rugs used. I put it down to not being able to find a genuinely flat piece of ground at County Crossing to link the rug and junk-fence. Guys, what's 2 rugs letting you do that 1 rug might not?

xbox works best if u are on a slant. u can see the fence floating on the rug and seems more likely to work stead of flat ground

Is there a way I can prevent objects from dropping/rising when I delete the rugs? I'm currently having an issue with placing a nuka cola machine in the corner of a raised shack, and every time I delete the rug underneath the machine it falls through the floor of the shack right down to the ground underneath. Help would be greatly appreciated.

hey I don't know if your gonna see this but I'm on ps4 and I can't find junk fences anywhere? I'm pretty sure there meant to be in structures>wood but I've looked everywhere, is there a certain thing I have to do (get a magazine or something?) to unlock them?

And generators, guard towers, crafting stations, turrets, and lights...

must work on ps and xbox.... tried this on pc with your exact setup and cannot get junk fences to clip. :(
