That's true, but I believe the more important reason is what the minutemen stand for. They are the only faction doing what they do for others and not for themselves or out of hatred of others. They genuinely want to help the citizens and keep them safe. Railroad I feel is doing what they do out of spite and activism. BOS and institute are self explanatory. All that said, the sole survivor is pre-war and hasn't been corrupted by the wasteland, so they have the same values as was found before the war and more closely relate to their goals.

I'd like to think in the 10 or so years since fallout 4 the commonwealth has become more civilized and tame, allowing people to make their way across the country. Possibly a minuteman vet sold it to someone who sold it to someone who sold it to someone else and ended up there.

The brotherhood of steel ending does not involve any conflict with the minutemen. The only ending that does is the minutemen if you choose to destroy the prydwen. This means the cannon endings are brotherhood or minutemen ending without attacking the brotherhood.

It’s not hard just don’t do any railroad missions once you join and don’t do the missions where you have to kill another faction.

@@zachfila nope, there is a video on it. You use the minutemen to enter the institute, make sure you get tradecraft, get banished, join the brotherhood, gather all side missions but don’t do mission where you attack the island with the super mutants, do all the rail road missions, done.

I mean, it is theoretically possible that the Sole Survivor was never awakened. That does allow the institute and the BOS remaining alive, since the BOS has no way of finding out where the institute is. And the institute doesnt really fight back untill the Sole Survivor entering the institute. It is entirely possible the Sole Survivor ends up finding Sean without siding with any faction too. This is entirely possible, since Fallout 3 and NV dont really have canon endings either. They have canon moments, but what is and isnt canon to the next games is spread out over different endings.

Their base is gone, not necessarily the Institute as an organization.

I wouldn't rule out there being some kind of institute remnant. There's no way to say for certain that all of them were in the institute when it went up in flames

It didn't make any ending canon. Inferior beings can't think critically and are unable to come up with logical conclusions as to why the prydwen is in the show. It could've been rebuilt if destroyed, it could've been because the brotherhood won, maybe it's another vessel with the same name in honor of the original given that Massachusetts and California are in 2 different sides of the country. Given how many options there are for the prydwen to exist we can all rest easy knowing no endings are canonized.

My idea took inspiration from the articles of confederation (and early U.S, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, the Holy Roman Empire and the First French Empire). It would be somewhat of an "anti-NCR" (having a "similar" system yet having a much different culture (possibly very socially conservative, even if it would vary from place to place), somewhat different economics (laissez faire capitalism and fiscal conservatism,) and being more isolationist by the time they consolidate power in the North East. It would be interesting if the minutemen have to strip some of their idealism so the Commonwealth is able to survive in the world of Fallout, with policies that could be seen as contradicting their original values (such as a swiss style conscription system and a relatively large military).

However with the Institute destroyed, the Railroad become entirely pointless as a faction. They literally only existed to free synths and destroy the Institute.

Yeah, without the Railroad there would be absolutely no social integration that Synths could have as a race in the universe. There would still be public suspicion and scare towards Synths in some way, and the RR is the only faction that cares about dispelling these rumors. I think the Sole Survivor as the General of the MM could have allied with the RR and had peace talks with Maxis' BoS if they were on good terms to at least have a ceasefire. The extremist views on Synths, Ghouls & Super Mutants that Maxis' BoS displays could tip the scales a bit more in the result tho towards further war. We'll have to wait to find out, hopefully things will change for the better.

Yup. Even if you become a raider in Nuka World and take over all your own settlements, you're still the General of the Minuteman and no one can stop you lol. It's the only faction where your character is actually in charge so there are no consequences for your actions.

Then the next steps would be to eliminate mutants and take prewar tech. Maxson even says he cares about the people of the commonwealth when you first meet him. The minutemen would probably allow the brotherhood to take prewar tech and kill all mutants in exchange for helping to prop up a commonwealth government that Allies with the BoS. Would make sense to the BoS to have a strong regional alliance as to avoid another situation they were in with the NCR

Even an in-universe explanation is possible, such as the Prydwen being sunk in the east and the new ship being given its name, as in the case of the USS Enterprise, a name used by about 5 different ships. There’s also in-universe technical problems for the same Prydwen to fly coast to coast, such as its coolant consumption, a problem that almost forced the BoS to ground the ship after arriving at the Commonwealth.

And that’s leaving aside in-universe technical problems such as the poor efficiency of the Prydwen’s coolant consumption, as indicated in FO4 (almost forced the BoS to ground the ship at Boston).

Probably just send a message over the radio saying something like “Brotherhood Airship: the Institute has been annihilated by our militia, and as such your mandate here is no longer valid. Kindly step the fuck off and head home or we will nail you with every one of our artillery guns across the city. This is not a request.” After all, if they come to blows, all it ended up taking to destroy that airship was some old artillery. It’s not invulnerable if you have a large enough caliber.

The brotherhood would not have nuked the institute. They would have captured it and placed Doctor Li in charge. The scientists that capitulated to working for the BoS would be spared while the others executed.

@@sokratikas dude I don't think you know the full scope of what the BOS has done, especially under Maxson. They do help people, but their first and only objective is to secure pre-war technology, even more than helping the wasteland. It's the whole reason for their war with the NCR. People forget they straight up raided Rivet City and stole their reactor for the Prydwen.

But the war with NCR is nkt maxson doing,hell,the guy was a kid while it was happening,and it was purely on an escalation by both sides,since the brotherhood didn't want the increasingly expansionist and curropt NCR to have access to energy weapons and the likes while the NCR didn't want the brotherhood as an obstacle to their ambitions and thus they fought. The BoS entire goal is to preserve human kind by making sure technology isn't misused,as a fact,in fallout 1 they were the ones to reintroduce technology to the wastes,while in 4 they trade with technology with the commonwealth traders. Also I never stated they were the good guys,the Mohave chapter was pretty extreme,as they straight up took technology,and the chapter in the show is straight up bad imo,but as a whole they are morally gray. Edit:wanted to add that as per McCready the brotherhood made the capital wasteland so safe that mercenaries hardly find work.

Yeaaahh no sorry, that's a bit of a stretch there, you don't put the model of a military vehicle on the outside of it in big bold lettering. Besides in FO4 they routinely mention the airship as "The Prydwen" meaning it was named and not termed, if it was a model it would've been something like this "let's head back to our Prydwen ship" "Our Prydwen can outgun any other ship" "No one can take on our Prydwens". And since they don't talk like that in the game, it's definitely the same ship. Lastly, Tactics wasn't confirmed as 100% Canon for the lore so we can't use that accurately.

It's because the Prydwyn gets vaporized in multiple fallout endings, blown up by C4 by railroad, erased by an institute hacked Liberty Prime, or obliterated by Minutemen artillery

The biggest reason the BoS was in the Commonwealth was the Institute, due to the Institute having very powerful technology and the BoS has their stupid hippocratic rule that they follow. Once the Institute is gone I assume that they hung around for a while, got any important tech they needed and then dipped out.

Bethesda definitely needs to cave and let the Enclave be a joinable faction. We can technically join them in Fo76 but our character becomes the only living Enclave operative in Appalachia so you don’t really get to enjoy the benefits of the Enclave. Though on that note, if you’ve never played the mod for Fallout 4 called “America Rising 2” then I’d recommend it. It’s a very high quality mod that adds the Enclave as a faction into Fo4 and you can side with them for the games ending, while enjoying every aspect of being backed by the US government and the most powerful faction in Fallout.

I'd really prefer if the faction that was supposed to be fully dead and scattered remnants by Fallout 2 remained dead and scattered. The Enclave were never an enormous organization. It was the department of agriculture for God sake. It got slapped around by the Chosen One, BoS and NCR. Just let them stay dead.

@@youraveragescotsman7119 Enclave more than any other faction in Fallout make sense to keep coming back. They’re not only rats hiding down in bunkers and shelters, they’re an idea. A new America built on the ashes of the old. It’ll always make sense for them to make a comeback in some capacity.

There's definitely more Institute operatives out there and possibly another headquarters. Zimmerman if I recall correctly wasn't in FO4 due to his work, so he could start over.

It can't survive intact. They would eventually grow too powerful, necessitating all out war in the wastelands and beyond. They were well on their way to building a synth army while infiltrating every faction out there. They could have won and took over the world, committed mass genocide, and repopulated with their own given enough time. They had to be defeated, and it had to be then and there, before they could expand beyond the Commonwealth.

Bro the Institute is literally just a more boring reskin of the Enclave. Bethesda wanted to do something different to make Fo4 stand out and so they turned the Institute into main antagonist material but wrote them the exact same as how they wrote the Enclave in Fo3. The way to save the Institute as it’s own faction was if we learned in Fo4 that they were puppets to the Enclave so that they could be absolved of guilt as their own independent facility.
