Fallout 4 Tips & Tricks: Get the Most from Your Generators
A few things you can do to maximize generator efficiency, and provide the most amount of power to your settlements in the least amount of space.

Love the look of your small generator shack. I do pity the settler that has to enter that shack to maintain them. Maybe we could get Mama Murphy to do it, might trigger visions.

Personally, I find this brilliant. While I have run characters through that could build fusion reactors, I am currently running a cowboy/rancher themed character. No Science. No Nuclear Physicist. This technique of small gennie cramming is perfect. Thanks.

For wiring up generators you stack in the same space place a power conduit near the generators and wire each new generator to the conduit before moving the generators into the same space. As for putting more than 2 generators in the same space, look up the rug glitch. The rug glitch can also be used on the water pump that doesn't need to go into water and produces 10 water, handy for making compact water farms.

With the DLC'S I like using the Fusion Generator(once I get Science 4)for my large settlements that use a lot of power. I usually only use it at Sanctuary Hills, Abernathy Farms, The Castle, and Spectacle Island(my primary Water Farming Operation). In most of my other settlements I use small Generators because I rarely use power in my other settlements...except for powering a radio beacon and maybe the powered Water Well.

I never knew the noise from the generators could be reduced by turning them off and back on again 👍🏻, I've been burying them in concrete blocks

Are you serious?! You can turn the generators off and on so it cycle the sounds? Hundreds and hundreds of hours into this game, multiple play throughs, and I didn't know that. I just face palmed so hard I re-grew some of the hair I lost.

do you wire all the small generators one to another, then just have one wire coming out of your power house carrying 114 pwr? having successfully used the wire glitch today thanks to one of your vids i think i can easily power a hell of a lot of water purifiers in a small space. i always wanted to make a million caps in new vegas but didn't, as a commonwealth water baron that might happen in fallout 4! keep up the good work!

I am quite enjoying your builds. I just stumbled across your stuff, and I'm happy to see new stuff, that I've never heard of!! I'd love to see a hazmat suit, and perhaps a fuel shed with a bunch of gas cans nearby. I love a bit of realism. But I also put in toilet facilities in most of my builds, cause come on. Settlers gotta go too, and no one wants to dook in the woods with Ghouls, Deathclaws, and Bears (oh my) :)

Watched this vid then wound up with a power shortage at Hangman’s Alley the next day. This was the perfect fix because it’s so cramped there - thanks!

The videos for Fallout 76 show windmill generators being blown apart during attacks on player settlements. At one point it looks like a monster directly targets the generator. So, I think it would be wise to practice different methods of protecting the various different generators in Fallout 4.

Just got Fallout 4 about 2 months now this tip will sure help me out with my cramp space lol playing with mods makes everything a lot easier saving bottle caps and worry free on running out of recourses

Is there a build limit difference in generators? I can't recall and let my nephew borrow my copy. Wind turbines look great at ocean settlements(Kingsport, Spectacle).

How do they get rid of their body waste? I usually place an outhouse or two by each generator and act like that's the fuel.

Well, I did make this video long before we even knew we'd get fusion generators. And actually it's not obsolete, if your character doesn't have high enough science to build a fusion generator, like most of mine. Every build doesn't get high science.

Not sure if I'm the only person but I typically never have more than 10 power in a settlement. With 10 power, I can do 2 powered water pumps and a recruitment beacon. I typically just use light or heavy machine gun turrets which don't need power and the resources associated with it.

I don't know why I never considered stacking small generators onto platforms over each other. I'm going to start making small generator shacks in all my future settlements!

I use the rug and pillar glitch to sink my generators into the ground. I leave the pillar there incase they get damaged and to use as a power pylon or leave a small part sticking out. :)

I undetstand where you are coming from space wise, but i use the medium ones due to materials. Usually i can have many more medium generators than large or small

Is power per "square foot" the best measure of efficiency? What about power per material resource?

In the late game, after you've been stockpiling everything and have supply lines between all your settlements, resources like those aren't really an issue. I discovered that, for me, space was way more of an issue, especially in small settlements like Hangman's Alley, where two or three large generators felt like a huge waste of space. Obviously you wouldn't build so many small generators like that if you didn't have enough materials. It really is just a personal preference kind of thing-something you can do if you feel like it's worthwhile. I definitely felt like it was worthwhile to me for some of my settlements, although not all of them.

I think the rarity of materials offsets the amount of resources used. Her strategy in building is useful for players that want to set up early bases...

I own a Jurassic Park settlement on the Spectacle Island and I think too much power is freezing my game every time I'm trying to connect my wires to one lever to open all my cage doors. That's right Jurassic Park with different monsters in every area. I name it Wasteland Park lol

and with the Vault DLC, we now have 100 and 150 pwr units.. drop in one and call it done

You forgot to mention the Fusion generator that produces 100 power You could easily do the same thing. With the Fusion generator and make a lot more power. Then a couple hundred.

This will be a killer on settlement build sizes. So you build a bunch of generators but cannot build the things that you need to power lol. Cool idea though.

That's only usefull if you look at the power/size ratio (excluding the fusion generator and the nuclear core generator, wich makes these tips obsolete). If you look at the power/resource cost ratio, again this setup is way too expensive... But thanks for the effort

This was made before the nuclear core generator or the fusion generator were available in the game. So yeah, the video is obsolete now, but back then it wasn't.
