12:35, this is a very easy-to-overlook moment (I didn't know about it until I read about it later), but the White Widow says "this charity was started in honor of my mother. Max was something of a paradox..." Max was the arms dealer from the first Mission Impossible movie.

Tom Cruise _ACTUALLY_ performed a HALO (High Altitude Low Opening) jump in this movie. He and the cameraman trained for weeks to get everything right. For the initial closeup, Tom had to drift within 2 feet of the camera lens, then drift away. If there was a mistake, it took several hours to set up again. Also, Cruise learned how to fly a helicopter for this role. The particular model they used wasn't big enough for the cameras and a hidden pilot. So, Tom said that he'd just do it himself!

(repeating my comment from above): I wonder why they felt it was the better route to digitally REMOVE a mustache, rather than have him shave this off and just add a fake one, heck, they could've even just taken this one clean off and re-applied it w/ a special type spirit gum...

This movie has got some of the best scenes ever from the bathroom fight to the helicopter scene, also I believe this was the one where Tom Cruise broke his ankle while filming and I can’t wait for Mission Impossible Death Reckoning.

Tom landed badly on the rooftop jump from building to building. It's amazing that he was able to salvage the take - you can see him struggling to get up the ledge and limping before they cut.

The best Tom Cruise interviews are on the graham Norton show out of the uK. Clips are all on YT. Including a slo-mo view of the ankle breaking fall on the rooftop, and where TC gets up and continues to run to finish the shot. I can’t imagine the pain. Also the Rebecca Ferguson story about her first day on rogue nation. Well worth a look.

Tom Cruise broke his foot in the scene where he had to jump between two buildings in the London chase sequence and that accident affected the filming for two months. We can see Tom having difficult to walk after he climbs to the top of the building.

It's kind of hard to see in the finished film, but there's an alternate shot featured in the trailers where you can actually see his foot break, I wouldn't recommend watching it if you're feeling squeamish

I LOVE the piece of music playing during the "imagined" heist scene. It's called "We Are Never Free" from the soundtrack. The whole piece isn't like the clip played during that scene, which is a shame because it's my favorite part, but it's still a great piece of music. It really evokes emotion (at least to me).

Cruise and his cameraman actually did this jump dozens of times for practice and for shooting takes. Totally insane. I believe the only CGI was the lightning and some of the clouds. But the chopper scene is pure crazy. Cruise not only piloted the chopper, he also had control of the interior camera because there was no room for a cameraman. So he was flying, manipulating the camera, and acting at the same time. I found that to be unbelievable.

MI 3, 4 and 5 what an amazing set of movies each one better than the previous. Tom Cruise continued his legacy as a legend in this one breaking his leg when he jumped across the building, but completed the shot. And a spectacular Halo jump plus the helicopter chase. By this point legend is fast becoming too soft to describe his status. Edit: Btw if you're like minded as me and want Henry Cavill as the next James Bond then I recommend his spy movie. The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

I was at Cinemacon when Tom Cruise and the director came out and explained the skydiving scene. Tom made that jump 300 times to get the three or four usable shots that they stitched together for the scene. They needed to do so many because the cameraman had to go out backward and maintain a consistent distance from Cruise to keep him in focus. The lightning was CGI and the jumps were actually made over a desert in the Middle East with Paris added in.

The biggest and best of the bunch. Christopher Mcquarrie as director just raising the bar even more than before to a major level. In IMAX, it was a must see and no way you saw it first in another format. Henry Cavill as August Walker (wow). Vanessa Kirby as The White Widow and daughter of a character from M-I:1 (cool). Baldwin & Bassett as the bosses (hell yeah). Early 2019; Cruise, Paramount and Skydance annouced back to back sequels of one story as the finale. Originally, one for 2021 and another for 2022. M-I:7 part 1 is ready to go and looks ever more incredible. Part 2 is in pre-production for 2024.

That part ehere Tom jumps off a building. He broke his foot , the footage is incredible, he did it and stayed in character, then reported hid injury .he did it in one take, it's in the movie ( they just cut out the injury part )

I saw this on the big screen, it was epic, and a total of 3 hours sat in the cinema - it was like an event! Lol! Anyway, I now have enough info to compile Jen’s Villain Manifesto: 1/ explosions, 2/ wads of money, 3/ motorbike (must learn to ride), 4/ diamonds, 5/ champagne, 6/ secret lair, 7/ nuclear warheads, 8/ countdown, 9/ good exit 🤣

I knew you'd love the music in this movie Jen. Lorne Balfe composed THE best score of the series, and I'm pretty sure he's doing the next two also. I just think it's much more "Bond" like in style, which I think adds a bit more professionalism to the whole movie.

Here’s a bit of detail a lot of people miss: the White Widow character (Vanessa Kirby) is the daughter of Max, the arms dealer from the first movie who couldn’t seem to decide whether she wanted to kill Ethan, or seduce him. White Widow mentions it during her speech in the ballroom. So it’s possible she knew who Ethan was the whole time! Once you know this about her character, Vanessa Kirby’s performance is much cooler, because she is behaving in many ways just like Max did in the first movie. And yes, she will be back for the next movie!

I hadn't seen a mission impossible movie since MI:2 in theaters a long, long time ago. I went and saw this one when it released and it was awesome in theaters. Embarrassed to say I think I ended up seeing it in theaters 4 or 5 more times and I loved it every time. Great reaction, especially to the music, which was one of my favorite parts of the film!

That last big jump on the roof is where Tom Cruise broke his foot and filming was suspended until it healed enough to continue. There are several videos you can search for in slow motion of that jump from another angle that shows the break... Cruise had safety cables on and in true form after breaking his foot completed the shot by scrambling up and limp running past the camera to complete the scene. He did the HALO jump in the beginning, and also flew some of the helicopter flying stunts.

Do you remember when "Superman's moustache" was a meme? This movie was the reason. Cavill was under contract by Paramount to keep his facial hair until shooting finished, but then Warners wanted to make reshoots for Justice League. In the end they tried to remove the moustache with CGI, but the result wasn't the best. 🧔

I also work part time in a theater and saw this multiple times on the big screen, and would constantly hear the music blasting when going by those theaters , it was a truly great movie. And i was in Paris a year before this came out, and he definitely is riding through the streets, i recognize a few restaurants even. Its my favorite part of the movie because i feel kind of attached to it now

You are the storm of reviewers Jen. The stunt helicopter pilots refused to film some of the stunts so Tom Cruise learned to fly a helicopter for those scenes. 🤯 The man is totally fearless. BTW Tom did break his ankel on the stunt where he jumped from one rooftop to another. You can tell when they cut immediately to a low angle roof shot as Ethan climbs up. Tom is limping because he finished the scene with a busted ankle. Freakin awesome. We are all going to love the next two MI films. This message will self destruct as soon as you read it. jk 😉

I was Surprised to learn after seeing the film in special features that they made the girl making the speech at the 12:37 mentioned Max. The one making the speech as a broker is the daughter of the woman protagonist on the first Mission Impossible film.

Hiya Jen. In the last movie when Tom Cruise was hanging in the outside of the plaine he did it 19 times for real to get it right 😁 In Fallout he learnt to fly the helicopter and did the skydiving scene. The best was when Tom jumps acress the rooftop he breakes his ankle for real but then carried on running accross the roof to finidh the scene. Wow 👍😁

On KZfaq there are some behind the scenes vids on stunts, etc. The stunt where Tom jump across to another building during the “patented Tom Cruisr sprinting” scene Tom broken his foot for real and kept on going to finish the scene for the camera shot. Henry maybe the “Man Of Steel” in the “reel life,” BUT TC is the “man of steel” in “real life,” - my man !!!

Tom is the only actor to ever do a Halo jump on film. Like all his stunts, he trained for months. He also is really flying the helicopter too. He already has his airplane license but got this helicoptor license just or this film and quickly learned how to do stunt flying.

Great review. Fun fact. Following Man of Steel and Batman vs Superman. The next in line is Justice League where you will notice Henry Cavills lip appearing somewhat strange. This is because and it's well documented, whilst filming Fallout he had to go back for reshoots to Justice League. Unfortunately his contact for Fallout recluded him from shaving off his mustache. So he had to film with it on and they deleted it post edit.

I am immune to Henry Cavill's handsomeness, so I had no qualms about being angry at him. 😆 These movies really do get better and better though. And there are some genuinely surprising twists, too. Like when Benji took the place of the bad guy and got Henry Cavill to spill the plot to him. I didn't see that switch coming. I just thought that would be where Henry betrayed the team and set the bad guy free. But it was such a satisfying moment, especially after Henry expressed his disbelief earlier about people falling for the masks. And that bathroom fight... Incredible! It's been so fun watching all of these with you, and I look forward to more in the future! ✌🤓

I did see this at the cinema and it was awesome on the big screen. I totally loved it. It was great to see Rebecca Ferguson come back and still be mysterious. The villain was sufficiently creepy again and the double crosses were great. Love your reactions to these films.

I don’t know if you picked up on it, but the white widow is the daughter of Max, the older woman from the first mission impossible. She mentions her mom in her speech.

The civilian cars are usually CGI'd in the chase scenes. There are a few cool Corridor Crew videos where they go over this franchise.

Tom couldn't fly a helicopter before this film. The twisting dive he goes into is one of the most dangerous you can do in a copter. The guys training him were from Airbus who made the copter used and said they'd never seen anything like it or him for taking on so much information in such a small amount of training.

IMF Jen this was INCREDIBLE, I know you were on the edge of your seat through this and your action movie instincts were never better. You evil vs handsome conflict was evident lol. I have to put it up there with any Bond film and i`m old school Bond. Now I know team is important but I would have had to save the plutonium over Luther. Remember, Mr. Spock said it best, "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few" .....Will you see Dead Reckoning in the theatres? I wouldn't blame you if you did, especially on IMAX. They had to do the HALO jump in the UAE as that was the only country to allow it. Halo jumps, High Altitude Low Opening, are the most dangerous jumps you can do. There's a big risk of breaking your neck in the airflow against the oxygen tank on your back. They did somewhere in the region of 106 jumps to get the shot right, Tom jumping out and getting to within 3ft of the cameraman who was doing the dive on his back with the camera on his head

My absolute favourite Mission. I love the chase scene with Walker, because it shows some great shots of London, my hometown. I don’t know if you didn’t click on that the White Widow was talking about her mother at the beginning; her mother Max. Vanessa Redgrave’s character in the first movie. 29:14 aaaaaand… SNAP! Tom Cruise broke his ankle doing this jump. They had to stop filming until he recovered, when he did they attempted this a few more times but weren’t happy, so they included the injury take in the final cut. 34:44 “you can fly a helicopter?” Yes… Cruise learned how to fly that helicopter so that he could do this scene… because of course he did 😂 It’s a big claim (from the production team), but M:I Dead Reckoning Part 1 is apparently going to top this one… the trailers look good, and it’s just part 1, part 2 is due next year.

yea @JEN TOM did all of his stunts and was helped a few times on those leaps with a wire around him digitally removed. Before filming the climactic helicopter chase, Tom Cruise had to complete an intense round of pilot training. He trained with Tim McAdams, the chief pilot of Airbus Helicopters, and Simon Spencer-Bower, one of the world's most highly regarded flight instructors.

JennyPenny, BTS: Filming was delayed after TC broke his ankle doing the rooftop leap. Note that delay was "after the rooftop scene" - Cruise continued to finish the take before going to hospital to fix the bone.

This movie’s the reason why Cavill had a bad CGI shaved look in a future DC appearance. When they brought back Julia the way they did, married to “Jaime Dutton” no less, I was legit shocked. I can’t wait for the final movies!

One of my favorite series ever! Fallout is my favorite of the series by far. I had very high expectations of Dead Reckoning but unfortunately fealt it was a bit weak. Hope the second part will redeem itself especially by bringing Ilsa back.
