Lucifer! Update: This series is the perfect combination of writing, characters, and plot & character arcs with season-ending cliffhangers. It's an emotional rollercoaster at times, having you laughing one minute, crying the next, then applauding. Lots of drama as well as plot twists keeps you watching . . .

If you liked Fallout's multiple-plotline/character switching style with big, well crafted universe with it own history and lore, I can recommend The Expanse (also Amazon). It also takes place in a few centuries in the future, but not a paralell universe, it looks like our human civilisation in the future. However, instead of living in garbage because of nuclear apocalypse, In the Expanse, humans colonised the other planets in our Solar System, all the way to the moons of Jupiter and Saturn, and have an ongoing Cold War where the big factions of humanity are always moments away from nuking each other's planets. It has it's own 'unique universe' style like Fallout in the sense that there's no other show/franchise that is like it.

If you're ok with subtitles, the miniseries Shogun is really good.

⁠@@zolahVR actual rocket scientists have praised The Expanse’s fidelity to the real physics of space travel. You have a point about the universes of each series. I can’t think of other TV shows that create comprehensive realities like these two, without boring infodumps. These shows fill in so many gaps with the little details within the frame, aka mise-en-scene. (There’s a film school word for you.) However, Fallout has a head start, being based on the games. The creators of the TV show already had a lot of material to work with. It’s true that The Expanse is also based on a book series, but I think the creators of that show had more gaps to fill. The writing on Fallout is better. The characters are more believable and better developed. To be honest, The Expanse’s writing got a little shitty towards the end. I hope the writing on Fallout maintains its quality if it lasts as long as The Expanse. One of the reasons, maybe the main reason, that Fallout’s story is so good and so compelling is that it’s a moral tale. It’s fundamentally a clash of moral philosophy. Lucy represents the philosophy of the Golden Rule, The Brotherhood of Steel is based on the concept of Might Makes Right (the law of the Wasteland), Moldaver (as well as Hank) follows a Utilitarian philosophy of The Ends Justify the Means if it’s for the greater good. The Ghoul was once a good man following a code, but he has fallen. Maximus comes from the Brotherhood, but is now wrestling with moral issues as he confronts new situations. Fallout is pretty explicit about the moral and ethical aspects without being preachy. And these aspects raise the stakes much higher than the stakes of individual survival or even group survival. They’re woven into every episode. Think about the question posed to Lucy in the second episode by Wilsig. Reformulated, it might go like this: can you maintain your Golden Rule idealism that is your core in the face of harsh reality? The Ghoul is someone who couldn’t, who fell from his ideals to the point where he takes pleasure in killing (“the love of the game”). That is their great contrast. I could go on, but you get the idea. There’s lots more there.

Yes, but Russia still exists in Fallout. In fact, USSR still existed till the Great War (never disbanded). It’s just that China made a move before they did.

Oh man, I just finished typing an essay pretty much saying what you just said... DOH!!!! I added that the USSR still existed but was smaller and weaker and that the US had annexed Canada and Mexico as a little more context.

Ok this episode makes angry. Every game. Every single game from statements of people to info you find on the US early warning system says China shot first not vault tech. I can only think this was changed so the show didn't tick off real world China. And what the heck did they do to my boy Sinclair. Sinclair is one of the very very few good guys in fallout and because he is a good guy he ends up betrayed at every turn. He didn't have stock in Big MT. Big MT wasn't a corporation they were a government think tank. And they were using Sinclair turning his resort into a test area for their frankly dangerous tech. Also House had no connection to vault tech. He was a brilliant man who predicted the nuclear war and took his own counter measures. This show is absolutely destroying the established lore of New Vegas.

Yeah, fallout 1 and 2 seemed somewhat neutral leaning good, fallout 3 east coast branch was very much good guys, fallout 4 you see the west coast brotherhood turned into complete a-holes since 2.

@@andrewdemarco3512 yeah 3 had what could be considered the closest to what Roger Maxson originally envisioned for the brotherhood but I think the did get a little lax on the whole searching for tech side of things but I could be misremembering.

Oof that’s very interesting and rings true to real life. Original visions can start out altruistic and then over time become corrupted by other motivations …

@@kanpai_ky Similar thing happened to the NCR (prior to events in the show). They started out very idealistic and focused on having a democratic government. Then they maybe became a little imperialist and started forcing other communities and settlements to join, pay taxes, etc. I'm certain there's no political commentary in all that, though. 😉

Ehhhhhhhhh. That's not really true. In Fallout 1 The Master and his army are pretty unambiguously bad. In Fallout 2 it's The Enclave. Fallout 3 has The Enclave again and adds a new chapter of the Brotherhood that are heroic good guys. Fallout New Vegas has Ceasar's Legion as being the pretty unambiguous bad guys. FO 4 has The Minutemen and The Railroad and pretty unambiguous good guys. There are morally gray factions in the games but the idea that everything is just shades of gray is not really true, every game has factions that are obviously either good or evil, and some of the games have both.

Oh wow! A Red Dwarf reference! Believe it or not I’m very familiar with that show … I was born in and spent my first 7 years of life in Australia (sadly lost my accent 🤪) and so I know a lot of older BBC shows like that one. Queue the nostalgia ✨ Can’t wait for season 2 and New Vegas! 😃

Interesting theories for sure. I did watch Usher and Wednesday but have not seen One Piece. I know there are A LOT of episodes so it wouldn’t definitely be a commitment, but I hear so many good things about it. I also want to check out Blue Eyed Samurai.

Yes that bottle stopper is SO handy 😁 Regarding Speedway Stout, I totally agree with the Vietnamese Coffee variant being a favorite. I also really enjoy their Hawaiian variant. One time at AleSmith they had some variants on tap (not available in bottles) and there was one made with Apple brandy or something like that. It wasn’t something I was expecting to be amazing and bam! It was so good and I’m sad it was a one time experience 🥲 And yes, how did Moldaver survive?! It’s definitely an art to get the writing and story telling done right in a different media and though I don’t know the games, I feel like the show really explored the world built by the games in a way a noob like me can appreciate and spark interest in the games.

Oh man I know nothing about the games so I can’t speak to how well or not they paid homage to it and if anything was so egregious as to be disrespectful to the cannon.

@@kanpai_ky the early changes were big but not completely disrespectful depending on how they explained them. But there is a rumor Todd Howard hates New Vegas. It was made by an outside developer that employed a bunch of people that had created fallout (Bethesda bought the fallout IP they didn't create it). And the game they made (New Vegas) is generally considered the best game of the Bethesda era. This episode made me think that rumor might have some truth to it.

They didn't confirm Vault-Tek drop the first bomb in Great War, lol. It was a suggestion. Probably forced by The Enclave. The guy in the shadow right before she suggested the idea.

@@VORASTRA that whole thing makes no sense. Vault tech makes it's money on the fear of war. War itself would actually be unprofitable since it would wipe out their customers.

He grows as a character, and their relationship is genuine. He must feel like crap that it appears tgat either Lucy abandoned him or her dad took him. Either way he wants to go after her to figure out what happened but now he's stuck playing bos politics.

I thought about the thumbnail hard … a majority of the finale reactions have Hank straight up in the power armor suit or the cage in the thumbnail which I found personally to be a heavy spoiler. I thought this scene was significant, but not an upsetting spoiler compared to say, Hank in the power armor. If this was released weekly, I would feel more compelled to hide anything in the thumbnail, but given all the episodes have been released two months ago now, I think this specific shot is compelling (which is needed for a thumbnail) but not an upsetting give away. I don’t now if anyone’s thumbnail can be completely spoiler free, but I try my best. This is only my 8th video ever made.

@@kanpai_ky That is true and I've complained to those reactors about those thumbnails as well, but I think, if someone has only watched the first episode, seeing Maldaver looking like a badass in front of a NCR HQ sign is much bigger than "Hank wears power armor". I mean, you generally assume that Lucy will find him, so, out of context, him in power armor isn't that significant.

@@kanpai_ky Hank in power armor ruins the entire scene of explosive betrayal-reveals while Hank is in the cage. And when Maximus releases Hank. All suspense, gone, just anticipation of "howz _that_ gonna happen?". The NCR banner w/ Moldaver isn't really a spoiler, because we already saw the "flame mother" scene in Vault 4, and there are hints piled upon hints that she's a power center in this region of the wasteland. I'm sure there are nit-picky reasons that can be rationalized, but I'm allergic to spoilers (including sports I have DVR'ed 🤬), and I saw this thumbnail and...no rash.
