In this video, I’m going to show you the fastest ways to get ranger armor in Fallout New Vegas. I’ll also show you how to build your character so that you can maintain the armor without spending all your hard earned caps to repair it.

There are basically two main ways to get ranger armor early on in Fallout New Vegas - gaining access to the NCR Ranger Safehouse or killing a NCR veteran ranger and looting the armor from their body. Both of these methods involve a little bit of grinding, but it shouldn’t take too long if you’re focused on the goal. Let’s start with the latter option first.
You can loot ranger combat armor from NCR veteran rangers. The tricky thing is they won’t start spawning into the game until you’ve completed certain quests. One of these is King’s Gambit - where you have to resolve a situation between the Kings and the NCR. The other is part of the main questline once you’ve either activated or destroyed House’s securitron army. Once they’re in the game, you can find these NPCs at NCR camps and outposts like Camp Golf, Ranger Station Delta, etc.
Just be aware that killing rangers will tank your reputation with the NCR. On top of that, NCR Veteran Rangers can pose a major threat in combat to low level characters - especially considering that you’ll likely be attacked by an entire camp of NCR soldiers in the process.
Additionally, if your reputation with the NCR is low enough then you’ll periodically be attacked by Ranger hit squads, which can provide more ranger armor for you to loot. Overall, this is the fastest way to get the armor. But if you don’t want to kill random NCR soldiers, there is another way.
If you build your reputation with the NCR to “Liked” or higher, then you will gain access to the NCR Ranger Safehouse, which has two free suits of ranger armor. The most straightforward way to build your reputation is to complete NCR side quests. I recommend heading to Camp McCarran near the Vegas Strip because there are a ton of quests you can complete there.
Once you’ve completed enough quests to achieve the Liked reputation, head back to Camp McCarran and speak to Colonel James Hsu. He’s usually hanging out in one of the offices on the first floor concourse. He’ll give you a key to the NCR Ranger safehouse, which should now show up on your map if you haven’t discovered it already.

Allmost as nasty with this price as if you run very early into a dead BOS patrol in Fallout 3, all that Powerarmor and being unable to uses it was such a low blow.

there’s a glitch where you can train for the Power Armor in Fallout 3 even though it’s supposed to pop up after a main quest, it doesn’t glitch the quest thankfullyz

@@MrRedmest i dont remember as it has been so long but i remember it being far north and the landmarks are that theres a quarry there with 3 alpha death claw and a mother death claw along with a fuck ton of normal death claws theres a dead ncr range there tho i cant confirm if hes carrying a anti material rifle as well

There's also a random spawn drop in Camp Golf I found one time. A dead NCR Ranger was in a bathtub either outside or inside one of the tents. Armor was still in tact

By far the best way to get the NCR ranger armor early on, is to get the Lonesome Road DLC. You can get it as soon as the DLC has installed from the Commissariat vendor in the Divide. This way you can have the outfit when meeting the NCR soldiers first time in the game.

Late response, but... That's actually not the NCR Ranger armor, it's a completely separate armor called Riot gear, and it doesn't even count as faction armor so you can wear it while standing in front of Caesar himself and he won't care. The Riot gear is even superior to the Ranger armor stat-wise.

If you have the lonesome road dlc there is the advance riot gear on the crows nest, the bridge with a collapsed building, the easiest way to walk there alive is to have an anti material rifle even if your underleveled

Side note: you can obtain the ranger veteran helmet at lvl 1. If your hated or vilified with the ncr they will send ranger soldiers after you, one of these soldiers is wearing a veteran helmet. Just kill at least 3-4 ncr troops and wait around 3 in-game days and they should come. Mind you, it is like 4 rangers ea. equipped with repeaters and .44’s.

NCR (and Legion) hit squads are often bugged though. You either get them or don't get them at all, mainly because of spaghetti code, and because of disguise and rep systems glitching out. If you put on disguise or raise rep once, in most of cases you can pretty much forget about the hit squads afterwards.

raul can also repair your set for fairly cheap in comparison to vendors, like 150 caps for both helmet and armor to be fully repaired

It's a masterful game, you'll have to get past the bugs and aged graphics but the story and rpg elements are better than most newer games

The easiest way I've found to get this gear is just to get NCR pissed with you and get it from a hit squad (before the exit of the Tops casino that resets infamy is best, for completionists). Thank you for the video, regardless. I didn't know there was a way to get it without killing.

Also if you want to not be dressed up as NCR and are willing to forgo looking slightly different due to a variation, you can immediately go start Lonesome Road DLC if you have it (if you don't, WHY?) and then grab riot gear for 6000 caps. You can get up to about 6000 selling everything you find and don't need to confront any real threats in lonesome road or start the DLC to buy things, I was able to sell stuff from the packs and some soda bottles and junk and get the regular riot gear at the commissary shop in lonesome road (ask ED-E to help you unlock it, you do not need EDE from primm though) right before I hit level 3. This will let you have pretty much the same look from level 2 on until you complete the first mentioned route in the video, and if you don't see /too much combat/, you should still have the armor at very poor or maybe just breaking before you get the jury rigging perk. If you want to look like a ranger (or avoid having to dress as ncr) this can be done after about 5 minutes of play. just add in the tactics I mentioned with what's in the video and you will look like an ncr ranger for 99% of your gametime.

Medium armor is good for normal difficulty, but with that x0.5 damage penalty on very hard you'll get better mileage from light armor for crits.

About the Boulder City quest; do you get NCR reputation if you pay Monroe 500 Caps to let the Khans leave? I started a new playthrough of New Vegas a couple weeks ago and didn’t have a high enough Speech skill to convince Jessup, so I just paid Monroe, but I can’t remember if I got any fame from that.

Late response, but... That is base game, albeit with the Lonesome Road add-on as you said. It's actually a separate armor set from the Ranger armor, called Riot gear. Easy to get from the commissary terminals, if you've got the caps for it by then of course.

The easiest quest for me to instantly get liked with the NCR, was to route the power to the Strip and another town who's name I forgot. Its where you also find a super weapon that can kill the NCR in the facility

I always dink around until I get 5k caps and make a detour once I reach primm to lonesome road, you can start it at any level and there aren't any enemies between the start and the first commissary and I buy the set. But most people can't get 5k if they're not stealing everything that isn't nailed down, which would sink your karma.

If you go to the camp hope you can push one ranger off a ledge and that helps me through speed runs but I get a regular ncr soldier after I just watch them fight feens by the camp mc Caren so I can take the train to the strip 😊

@@roni9395look up “caps glitch Fallout NV” and it should tell you. It’s kinda complicated to describe through text haha, you have to get 2 of the same weapon (or armor I think) and you trade them back and forth until they glitch into one item. If you do the transactions right, you can basically barter the other person out of all of their caps. Be careful though, if you do it in the opposite order, you’ll give all your caps up 😭 have fun!

Huh,just realized may be another way. If the NCR likes you enougth you can request ranger support. Im now wondering if you can do that in deathclaw territory. Wonder if it will spawn trenchcoat mafia or just militant forest rangers. Even if its just the what brown can do for rangers still gonna have to give that a try when next play havin good enough rep with them.

This is the pleb way. The BEST way, is to do Lonesome Road at lv 1 and nuking the NCR. then you go to the Mojave outpost to loot the corpses in the Long 15.

For some unknown reason the very better version of the Ranger armor in the Lonesome Road dlc I don’t want to where and I either use the original combat armor or using the Desert Ranger armor. Again I have no clue why I don’t use the more superior version of the Ranger armor.

The way I used to get that armor was to enter V.A.T.S and highlight a ranger while holding a weapon loaded with incendiary rounds. Wether I fired or not, the ranger (or any other victim of my choosing) would catch fire as if hit by and incendiary round. I keep doing this without actually firing, garnering zero consequences or ill will or bad karma, till the ranger burned to death. Then I’d just loot. Does this still work?

Xbox360. If I remember correctly I useda 50cal Anti-material rifle with incendiary rounds. Enter VATS and everything you even look at through VATS catches fire.
