Logbook Day 3: Still raining..I can hear the dropships coming. My leg is shattered, and I’m on my last syringe. We’re losing the planet, I’ve lost my squad and it seems there is no help on the way. The new recruits are still pushing back the bugs on the other side of the Galaxy. It seems like I’m the only veteran left on this side of the planet. The Bots probably took down our servers because there is no response to my SOS signal. Logbook Day 4: I can see it. The commando outpost of that damn robo army. I’m on my last few magazines of my beloved breaker. My railgun is ready. Adler is going back to base, to bring me my 2 500 KG bombs. Logbook day 5: This might be my last massage, today is the day. I’m gonna destroy the Robots on this planet for good. If you read this, tell super earth they can f*** themselves. To all Veterans: leave the bugs for the new recruits, they can handle it. We need you on this side on the Galaxy. FOR DEMOCRACY!

This is true. And if you pay attention to the music queue when you start the extraction protocol in Helldivers, the similarities with the third round of the Vault encounter in Last Wish are uncanny. Different pieces, for sure, but the feeling of urgency is there, using similar musical formulas. An amazing work from Roget.

As an OG diver, I too am glad to see its sequel being such a massive success for the devs. The original was slept on by so many gamers and at its peak, it could only muster about 7K players, whereas Helldivers II has had its servers capped at 700K by the devs due to massive demand.

@@metarugia3981 It was a smart choice to go away from top down. Not trying to devalue the first game, but as a new person to the franchise, I can say for certain I wouldn't enjoy it as much if it was still top down. It's Crazy how such a simple thing as change in camera perspective can dramatically influence the feel.
@metarugia3981
@metarugia3981 5 ай бұрын
@@tylerbarse2866 It's because top down shooters cater to a niche market and 3rd person perspective games appeal to a much wider audience. Not only that, but there's not much money to be made in top down games. There's a reason why some of the best and biggest player base games are 3rd person.
@tylerbarse2866
@tylerbarse2866 5 ай бұрын
@@metarugia3981 Yeah that's a fair point. I was just more mentioning how the perspective changes how the game feels. From my understanding the core gameplay loop is largely the same, but just the change of perspective takes that gameplay loop and makes you feel like you're actually there diving onto planets and clearing them out of fascist elements for the glory of Super Earth.

The games I usually like are single player action RPGs such as horizon, forbidden West, the latest Zelda entries, elden Ring, assassin's, Creed Odyssey, etc. I was never into shooting games at all until I tried cyberpunk 2077 a few months ago after all the patches and DLC and such were launched, and it was a glorious experience and I absolutely fell in love with shooting guns at enemies. Helldivers 2 was my first MMO experience. I gave it a shot cuz I'm trying to make myself be a little more social, but also because I knew that I enjoyed shooting games after having loved cyberpunk. As a person who's still kind of new to shooting games and totally new to the MMO scene, I have absolutely fallen in love with this game. If you're even thinking about getting yourself a copy, go ahead and do it.

I was a big fan of the first game. Not a crazy acolyte like some, but I'm definitely a big fan. I was stoked to play HD2. I was cautiously optimistic about the switch to 3rd person, though I certainly had my concerns about this studio making such a huge switch. Good lord did they deliver. My *entire* friends list is utterly obsessed with HD2. The problem now is making sure everyone is in four person squads. We've had cross-pollination through groups that never play with each other to make sure everyone has a good squad! The game is literally building bridges!!! Haha so glad you are having a good time Fallout! You're welcome to join us whenever you'd like, not that you'd ever hurt for a squad ahaha! *salutes* FOR DEMOCRACY! Love you dude!

@ArheIy
@ArheIy 6 ай бұрын
But it *is* necessary. Not for all weapons, but some are just unplayable without it. Explosive liberator and dominator have too much recoil to control it with 3rd person while firing from long distances, and sniper rifles (as well as AP liberator, in case you use it like a scout rifle instead of an AR) need it for precise shots. It's not only immersive - it's also damn useful.

I almost never play shooters myself, and I ADORE this game. Hell, I like it more than my shooter obsessed friends at this point. There's so much instant gratification and opportunities to come in clutch and completely turn around a hopeless situation with a couple well executed stratagems. This sort of scratches a similar itch to Risk of Rain 2, but with a lot less knowledge investment. Game is chocked full of instant gratification. Also, while there's technically not a lot of content mixed up into the procedural mission system, the scenarios and environments make it feel fresh every time. It's a 10 for me.

As someone who has been a hardcore Destiny player since the D1 beta, HD2 is everything I've ever wanted Destiny to be. The live service model feels important to the game and it genuinely feels like I'm part of a bigger world. The community the game has managed to garner in such a short time is incredibly kind, helpful, and fun to play with too. Monetization and the battle pass stuff feels fair. I have almost zero desire to spend more money on the game, mainly because I'm rolling in supercredits from just playing the game. Additionally, I have no fomo over missing a battle pass if I don't clock in enough hours. In fact, I want to play just because I enjoy the game and I want to aid in the war effort. Finally, I love the Helldivers knows what it is. I feel like Bungie is still struggling after a decade to figure out what Destiny should be. The firm "no pvp" stance is awesome and I wish more developers had solid visions of what they want their games to be. If Helldivers gets raid/dungeon like content, I will never touch Destiny again. I still may never touch Destiny again anyways.

I’ve actually played about as much solo as I have with friends and I find both modes of play fun for different reasons, so I think it’s still valid to play solo. With friends it’s like a pack of chaos goblins causing mayhem whenever they go, but solo it’s almost like a puzzle game where you’re trying to work out how best to solve certain encounters and then watch as those plans go sideways in the field.

I’ve never understood one dimensional content expectations from fans. Like obviously I don’t know you, but I enjoy watching what you put out because you’re you. Not because it’s Destiny 2 content. All that to say wherever this channel goes, I’m strapped in for the long hall, come hell(divers) or high waters.

Personally, I believe this game is primed for PvP mode. Just not people shooting each other. They can do that for fun right now. But rather, they should make a super large map and split the players into 2 team, like 16 vs 8 or something. Where 16 would play as troopers 3rd person shooter style. While the other 8 would control the bugs/automatons RTS style. That way, no matter who wins, they are in for a good laugh.

They(devs) don't need to add new planets as each one is procedurally generated (and so are the missions iirc), therefore you will never experience the same planet twice.

If you enjoy this game, I recommend Deep Rock Galactic or Earth Defense Force 5/6(when it comes out). Both games have a similar vibe to Helldivers in that they both feel like the devs are utterly committed to the bit. Both have excellent gameplay and excellent multiplayer experiences.

The replayabiity is fairly to easy to explain once you know what you're looking for. Simply put, this game has all the benefits of a L4D style AI Director, but doesn't actually use one. Instead, its self modulated by players, using the Mission timer as a way to discourage slow and methodical map clearing. Like Ammo, time is a finite resource you have to manage; and getting stuck in an endless loop of reinforcements costs you a lot of both. The above is also shaped by the Exp system being objective based, rather then kill based. So its in your best interest to avoid protracted fights, and thoroughly clear areas you need to make safe. You also have to weigh the risk of engagement, as a quickly clearing a path lets you move around faster.... but a miscalculation or bad judgement can get you hung up on a resource draining fight. Even escaping is a risk, as you can (and usually do) run into a patrol while fleeing from another blob of enemies, adding to the problem you're in. This is the same model DRG uses overall; sans DRG's swarm timer in place of a mission time limit. Even the resource and unlock system follow similar logic to DRG. Ship upgrades increase the power to stratagems, as you become increasingly reliant on them in higher difficulties. While the Stratagems themselves are tool kits to deal with various types of problems. While not all equal; each acts as a response to a specific set of problems. And Effect modifiers can dramatically change the value of a given stratagem. Like orbital scattering makes their use a liability, in turn increasing the viability of Eagle strikes. Or long deployment or cool down makes faster cycling ones more desirable. I wish they could do the same thing with Support weapons more often, making some situationally advantageous depending on environmental factors. So far only seems energy weapons have an environmental factors with Heat/Cold. Collectively this translates to pre-drop and mid-mission decision making being of a high importance, but generally favors operational flexibility. Having a build doesn't mean you're permanently committed to it for the duration of the mission. And scavenging and sharing support weapons can maximize team flexibility, opening slots for other stratagems. Basically you can improvise and/or fight your way out of a jam if you have to. This is partly why dying is not really a big deal in this game. As the majority of non-collateral deaths are easy to deconstruct, and don't automatically snowball into a spiral of failure. As for the collateral deaths.... the rag doll physics ease the frustration with some hilarity. The gun play is also comfortably on point. its somehow avoiding the issues most 3PV games have with pitch translation, making it handle as intuitively as an FPS. And the way some weapons have weight in their slew rates, and the reticle using muzzle track instead of random spread, makes sweeping fire and bringing weapons to bear easy to follow, adding a sense of control many shooters don't have. Adding to this, the satire and lore perfectly complimenting the absurd levels of firepower and chaos the Hell Divers bring. A pitch perfect game that most Starship Trooper games realistically can't replicate, in how the nature of the Satire in the movie would lose its jux position should they lean into it this hard.

Imagine at the end of the game, they showed you mission failed instead of mission completed when you fail to extract, it's gonna annoy you at least a little bit and even IF they give you the same exp, it just doesn't feel the same. You would feels like you lost something even though you really didn't, what matters is that it shows that AT LEAST you completed the mission. So you just don't feels like you lose but rather you just didn't get AS MUCH AS you COULD HAVE and THAT really feels better than mission failed even if it's doesn't matter. You can feels the different and that's why sometimes even when you failed to extract, it's still FEELS good rather than tilted. So you can still keep playing even if you failed to extract. This game really knows how to manipulate us to feel good about ourselves even if we "fail" man😂

The good out weighs the things that ant working by a long shot! The server thing is the biggest issue and the company are addressing it and have took full pride and responsibility. They didn’t expect it to blow and far as I can see they handling it well. The game is well made and designed. I’ve had Minor issues with the game! I’m impressed with this and I’m in the franchise for life now and I never heard of the first game. Well done! What a game! What a studio! What a way to handle the battle pass and progression, what a way to look after players and I can see big things happening! Good luck citizens! I’m feeling like a kid again getting excited about a game and I haven’t felt this in years

We had a straggler that got left behind as we headed to extraction and he was getting chased hard by a horde of bugs. I headed back to the top of the ridge to provide cover as he made his way up the hill while the other two ignored the fact and beelined it to extract. The simple “thanks” voice line as he ran past me was so wholesome 😂

I have played tf out of Mass Effects multiplayer for years. Having an entire game model built around it with very polished movement, awesome sounding guns, beautiful explosions, giant monsters a variety of missions that can be 15 minutes or 40 minutes, and they have the potential of adding actual boss fights. Maybe even some bug hole dives or automaton boarding parties as well as defending Super Earth. Way too much meat left on the bone that this game just forgets it's a live service and becomes stale. This is how you do a live service game. It feels like a complete game with the potential of multiple other games worth of content that can and does seem to be planned on added later.
