Falls Creek is one of the best rides around the Gorge. More rustic than Post Canyon, more forested than Syncline, and just plain epic. Coordinates for the Terminator trail head are 46.000462°, -121.847521°

This is a great review. As a founding member of Friends of Falls creek, we appreciate your call out for the reroutes success. There is another lesser known loop option that avoids a shuttle and the boring gravel ride out from the trail head. Drive past the normal trail head on wind river highway to the second pull out you can see the river at (45.922503°,-121.946967°) . Ride the road up, follow your route, but just before you cross the bridge at the bottom to the parking lot keep going on the abandoned trail (road), take a right and ride up the old road, about 2.5 miles up there is a poorly marked spur on the left that goes to the river. There is a giant log crossing the river to walk over and your car is right there. Note: We try to keep this section clear of blow down and flagged. Send me a PM and we will get these reviews promoted on our website, they are a great.

I've ridden that route before! I totally forgot about it, thanks! Also, when I rode it there was no log crossing. I had to wade across the river. No big deal, really.

When I did Falls Creek in July of 2017, the Northwest Forest Pass was not required at the trailhead, and a sign at the trailhead stated it as such. However, it is always good to have it with you, just in case. Great video!!

the lava tube pits along the double track... there is a lot to them actually, if you pass the first one, descend down into the 2nd one... go underneath the land bridge to the third one, and hike all the way through the 3rd one to the opposite end of it. it's insanely rewarding from that point on. bring a head lamp and some shoes.

phreadi Have fun with that. I have an irrational fear of caves and won't even consider it. But good info for anyone who doesn't hate caves!

Yeah it’s jot easy or quick, but once you cross the rubble basin in the third pit and hike down into the far end of it, it’s literally an2.5 mile long subway tunnel with a sand floor, horizontally striated walls and 40’ ceilings. Curious gorge.com has good info and photos. You can see the dew point in the air once inside, it looks like you’re in a fish tank.

I like the video idea, but did you let KZfaq do their camera vibration/motion compensation on it? Parts of it were kind of nauseating. :( And thanks for the tip on Trail 159 to extend the shuttle elevation. That is something I'll try to do this year.

I used warp stabilization on selected parts (especially on trail 159) and those are actually the most nauseating. The KZfaq stabilizer is even worse. The beginning of the video was made with a cheap 60 dollar action camera. The non-nauseating parts were done with a Hero 5 Session that has stabilization built in. Now that I have a better camera, the rest of the videos will look better. And definitely try the 159 extension.
