Now I'm really curious. There's been some really crazy Beta designs of Pokémon in the past. Like how Girafarigs name being a palindrome reflecting how its being mirrored in the middle or how the connection between Remoraid and Octillery is that they resemble weapons: Remoraid is a gun and Octillery an Artillery Cannon or even Tank. Or one of the creepiest: Giratina's beta design, which looked like a really cursed version of Landorus therian.

One of the best Gen 5 Pokemon to me. Because it has Tinted Lens and Magic Guard, plus it has good Speed and Special Attack stats. Also since it has a good amount of coverage options; besides its STABs, it gets Shadow Ball, Dark Pulse, Flash Cannon, Dazzling Gleam, Ice Beam, Heat Wave and Energy Ball. It's also known for passing status due to Psycho Shift, something unique as a Pokemon with Magic Guard. It's very good for lower tiers, where in higher tiers it's pretty outclassed by Alakazam when it comes to being an offensive Magic Guard Pokemon, despite having better bulk.

Sigilyph is a great example of how much good abilities and coverage matter in making a good mon, as if it didn't have those things it's thoroughly middling stats and poor typing probably would have made it an NU/PU lifer. It's also a good example that although you can lead a horse to water, you can't make it drink as Sigilyph rarely seems to get into its proper tier by usage.

I’d say it’s a bit off a toss up between it and Archeops. Defeatist doesn’t come into play as easily as in comp and psychic types honestly aren’t very good in BW1. there is an argument to be made for sheer force Braviary (only during the postgame, of course) but it is certainly top 3. I say top 3 because, if you use legendaries, you can get Thudurus or Tornadus before the sixth gym, so there's that. It's not like you're gonna use Sigilyph against Elesa anyway, so it becomes useful almost as soon as you can get the genies.

I always felt a immense sense of terror when encountering a Sigilyph in the low tiers. Absolutely nothing could stand up to it's insanely diverse coverage. If all your major attackers and checks were dealt with, it was game over as all you could do is watch it set up and sweep through your passive teammates. If it had a bit more bulk, speed and knock off was nerfed, I could see it rise to the higher tiers. Here's hoping it comes back to Scarlet/Violet because it will be another excellent low tier mon once again.

I actually used one of these on my second ever VGC team. Tailwind, Gravity, Hypnosis, Air Slash. Max Speed, max HP with Magic Guard and a Focus Sash. Paired it up with Hustle Dracozolt (Sand Rush hadn't been released) and Hypnosis Milotic. I did really well, I only missed top cut by one game. Only a premier challenge, but still, proud of my Aztec bird.

I have been waiting for this for SO LONG! Edit: After hearing about how monstrous my boy/girl was, I’m a proud Sigilyph lover. I barely did Wi-Fi Battles but… I still loved him. My main story Sigilyph once hit a Volcorona with fly and one shot it in Black/White When I first saw it’s design before the game’s release, I was immediately in love.

Even though I didn't play Gen 5+ (besides ORAS) until 2019, I always liked Sigilyph due to its early TCG iteration where it had an ability that prevented damage and effects from the EX Mons that completely dominated the game, as well as hit the most powerful and splashable one (Mewtwo) for weakness. Later on (still in B&W) it got an iteration that turned Trubbish of all things into an ohko monster with a fun "gimmick" deck.

That is the wildest tiering shift I’ve ever seen for a Pokemon. *Proceeds to be great in RU in Isle of Armor before being dropped to NU due to usage before being banned back to RU for being overpowered “Wanna see me run to that mountain and back?” *Crowned Tundra comes out “Wanna see me do it again?”

I remember this one time I used a Sigilyph for one half of a neat combo, I actually used it as a light clay dual screener with tailwind, it was usually bulky enough to get both off, then I'd switch to an Eviolite Doublade, setup substitute, get off as many swords dances as possible, and then run wild with Shadow sneak, and also Night slash as a backup in case of typings. I know it wasn't the best thing ever, but a number of randoms online had issues dealing with it, so I felt validated

My first time seeing a Sigilyph was in BW when I was sneaking my DS in my room at age 10. With it's strange design, amazing and beautiful cry and how rare it was, I thought for sure it was some kind of legendary or mythical! It's so colorful and unique and it was a pain to kill sometimes. I was immediately entranced by it and it quickly became my top favorite pokemon of all time! Since then it has become pretty blah in terms of usability compared to other pokemon, but it will always be my favorite and it will always be (in my very biased opinion) a very underrated pokemon.

I’m confident this Pokémon design started as a possible evolution for Unown: it goes from a Letter made by an ancient people, to a whole drawing made by an ancient people But then, GF decided no new evolutions for like a decade… Also, I like how they managed to make a strong lower tier Pokémon that just so happens to get a cracked movepool and 3 stupidly good abilities (of which it usually only runs 1, because it’s just that good of an ability)

In Random Battles, facing this thing can be a pain in the ass as it is bulky, fast and needs to be taken down quickly or else you just lose outright. But when you have it, the opponent rages as you cosmic power in their face.
