Famagogo - the Holcombe Family from the USA take their 4x4 Sprinter Revel van to Europe and in this episode they tour Norway. They whitewater kayak around Voss, Cross the Arctic Circle, visit Lofoten Islands and go all the way north to Nordkapp. They find the Sprinter van is the ideal platform for this type of Overland touring as a small family of three.

If you go it's probably a good idea to do it the way they did. Campervan/RV or whatever they're named. By providing your own sleeping arrangements and cooking (at least some) of your own food you'll save a lot of money. Also, bring *some* food from across the border (although make sure you look up how much you can legally bring in as there's limits on many things due to us not being in the EU). Make sure you have plenty of time here. At least double the driving time suggested by the likes of google maps when planning how long to stay, as you'll probably end up stopping or driving slower then you expected etc. Expect bad weather in fall and spring, especially the fall.

Great and very lively video! You have influenced us with the idea of river kayaking. We have some experience with regular ones, but will find good training center. already this summer. What year was it? A completely different atmosphere... and the competition with socks was very fun! We ourselves travel around Norway, but we saw a completely different Norway today, in a different perspective ... from the rivers that we normally look at from above! We are happy to subscribe and will follow your adventures!

Hello, We loved our time in Norway. This was filmed in 2019 as a part of our European tour. I hope you do get a chance to explore rivers with a kayak. Finding a paddling club or school is a great way to get started and can save a lot of frustration. Thanks for watching and subscribing. We really appreciate that!

Great scenery , I'll be at the arctic circle in a few months but I'll be in Canada's Northwest Territories . I've taken a white water rafting trip with my kids a while back and a few of us got to use the kayaks on the third day . Lots of fun but a lot more work than on the raft even though we were doing class 3 and 4 rapids in the raft and class 2 and 3 on day 3 when we did the kayaks . There was a class 5 on the trip on day 1 and we saw some kayaks go down it but we had to port around since we were on a guided trip and it looked a bit rough for the size raft we had . Have fun over there , in the land of some of my ancestors .

Yes we love our steps. Build by Sherpas, paid by the Norwegian Goverment. Fun fact, Sherpas preffer building rock steps inn Norway rather than doing Mount Everest epxeditions as it is better paid, and risk free. Great video.

Thanks for that fun fact! I bet a summer is Norway is much more fun (less dangerous) than a summer on Everest. Thanks for watching.

Nice footage tho I'm not into kayaking but the Norwegian wild outdoors is really great, I can't lie. Luckily I'm from Finland, so its not much of a hassle to get there when I feel like it :)

0:50 I hope you guys read up on Norways import laws? Because that much food might lead to fines. Although you being a whole family might help a bit. A campervan is definitively the right way to go to see Norway. And buying some food up front before going in is definitively worth doing. Just make sure you stay within the limits.

We had no idea there was a food law. LOL. We had a great time in Norway. Definitely one of our most favorite places on earth.

@@Famagogo There isn't lol. But there are normal border crossing/customs regulations within EU and Schengen that prevents you from bringing in more than 10 kg of fresh meat/dairy and a certain amount of alcohol, and so on. I think he just explained it badly .
@johnnymartinjohansen

@@Famagogo You're probably within the limits. There is a general limit of bringing in bought goods/wares of a maximum value of 6,000 NOK per person, excluding alcohol and tobacco, which has their own weight/litre/amount limits, and doesn't count within the 6,000 NOK rule. And there are some special laws about maximum amounts of meat and sugar. You should always check such things before crossing any border, many countries have special laws you may not be aware of. For example, you're Americans - if you get cought trying to bring prohibited goods back home, like meat, will result in a $10,000 fine. Great video, though - thanks :)

@@johnnymartinjohansen Exactly, I don't usually cross over to Sweden so I don't actually remember the amounts etc, but it's always important to read up on the rules.

Thanks for supporting the Norwegian economy by doing all grocery shopping in Denmark 😒
@Famagogo
@Famagogo 2 жыл бұрын
We do try to support local economy’s where we travel. We love shopping from local vendors rather then big box stores, local cafes and artists. But we also are a family traveling with limited income and have to be thrifty when we can to be able to travel. I think anyone would stock up when they know something is about to get more expensive. We did buy many $28 ea. Norwegian burgers in gas stations, groceries and fuel for the northern portion. It was hard to make it all work on our budget but we did love seeing this great region and experiencing the culture.

I have been to supermerkets in the US and with the current exchange rate it is not a big difference in price compared to Norway. Alcohol, cigarettes and meat are expensive in Norway. Otherwise it is not too bad.
