Freud has been called down as the call of a small aquatic bird of the family Anatidae, but his theories of analysis reached their peak of popularity at about the time that this opera was written. Every self-styled intellectual in Europe was trying to plow through Freud's gobbledygook, and in this octet, Lehar asks at the start, throughout the set-up, and harmoniously starting at 1:10 "Who can tell what the hell women want?"
