All the more reason why it's so important to save money in the best times so that when voters vote for bad people with bad ideas that either lead to unemployment or higher costs of living a person can fall back on extra cash to manage a tougher situation financially.

Same. I have always made my grocery lists based on what's on sale and planned our family's meals that way (rather than planning a menu & buying for that menu). Our grocery bill for our family of 4 has always been lower than average because of that, and it still probably is, but it's easily double what it was a year ago. What has helped is that I have always bought a little extra of frozen/non-perishable items to store in my "Armageddon Pantry" and I have been able to "shop" from that as well. But it's still insane!

@@myquestforfaith409 thats what i am spending. Am i comparing pound for pound? No.. logic would suggest going from 5 down to 2 people would require smaller quantities. Now I did add two dogs to my house....but that is just a 44 pound bag of food every few weeks.. i doubt they are the reason. We eat healthier these days so our fruits and veggies have increased....but again we dropped from 5 to 2 people eating. You can check your math. going from 300 to 700 bucks is NOT a 500% increase. It more than doubled.....but not 500%.

@@benerval7 You started out paying $300 for five people ($60 per person). Now you're paying $700+ for two people ($350 per person). If no cost increase had occurred, you would have expected to pay $120 per month ($60 per person) when the kids left, not $700+. If your kids stayed and you paid the $350 per person you pay now, your monthly cost would be $1,750+ per month. That is nearly a 500% increase per person. Of course it's not that high if you just use the monthly totals, but they don't tell the whole story (the expected decrease in quantity from fewer people). The only explanation for the increase in total amount (133% to $700+) while buying for 60% fewer people is you are buying much, much, much higher quality and more expensive food, which is completely your choice and has nothing to do with inflation or the government.

The problem for this family is that they are buying processed food rather than making their own meals from scratch. They aren’t very smart. Just for reference my commute is 3-4 hours daily + 8 hours that is 12 hours 5 days a week. The sad part is the affordable homes are not close to decent paying jobs. If there’s a will there’s a way I try to cook 2xs a week and over cook then use the leftovers into new meals but if I have to work over 8 I’m def eating processed shit sadly
@Dragonalynn
@Dragonalynn 9 күн бұрын
@@kirataylor4981 I understand all too well, however with proper planning and budgeting, on the days you cook you can do up multiple meals for the week ahead, some or portions that can be refrigerated and others frozen. There are lots of videos for getting ideas from people who do this. You can make your own breakfast burritos and freeze them, or any type burrito for that matter. Wraps can be made up ahead of time. Make your own bread for sandwiches. Make frozen dinners that you can pop in the microwave and oven. Learn to can. There’s lots of things you can do on the day you set aside to cook since time is precious. It just takes desperation on your part to make it happen.

Grocery prices have increase while the Dems keep saying they are going down. Then explain why Dollar Tree can't sell anything for a dollar anymore. The $1 bag of gumdrops that I love to buy are now $1.35. And I saved up to buy a steak, something I haven't done for a while, and a ribeye was $23.00.

One thing people also forget: A lot of pre-packaged food is now SMALLER. Don't trust the price, look at price per kilogram/pound. Prices are going up, packages are inflated to look the same size, or bigger, but the actual contents are shrinking. $ per Pound/Kilo is the only way to measure things these days.

Those pizzas were just $1.50 a year ago at the same store, and $1.24 at Walmart (which now sells them for $1.99). You need to get it through your head, though---This is all by design. You might spend less for a “pound“ of beef at Walmart but when you’re done browning it, you will see far less in the pan. I’d rather pay more at the outset from a higher quality store or butcher for my meat and be sure I’m getting an actual pound Versus being cheated with crap. There are other products I noticed the prices of which have increased and the stated volume or weight has decreased. They’re getting us from both ends.

For just a household of two, I believe I spent roughly $240. The only meat on that bill was 1lb. of ground beef. We don't buy frozen meals and more than half of our list is produce. Other things include pasta, rice, maybe some eggs and milk, home essentials like TP. Compared to this person's list we're VERY conservative but it still cost an arm and a leg. Too few people realize that's the major source of all the price hikes we're seeing. Biden axed domestic energy production on day 1. Trump's economy was so robust because the refineries were going full steam, gas was cheap, and that meant goods could be processed and shipped for less. Biden is directly responsible for not only outrageous governmental misuse of taxpayer money, but deliberately cutting off America's energy-based prosperity, knowing full well what that would mean for the average American. Then he uses up the Strategic Oil Reserve to partially cover up his incompetence, and goes to the Saudis to beg them to lower their oil prices. I wish Trump would say more about this and place a lot more blame on Biden for destroying our economy the way he has.

It blows my mind that people who hold government offices know less about economics than you or me. I never went to no big fancy school to learn economics and I assume you didn't either, but yet we are more knowledgeable on economics and what will happen when/if they do raise the minimum wage. I remember a few years ago when our "President" tried to raise the nationwide minimum wage to 15$ and I was relieved when it got shot down, because I KNEW what raising the minimum wage would do, and it ended up happening in California over 20$.

Not only has inflation caused rent, it has increased my utility bills, and especially my groceries. Normally about 250 - 300.00, would have been more than enough to cover my groceries for the entire month. Last time I went, it was about a month ago, it cost me $400 plus. Exactly! My utilities have went up about 30% year over year for the last three years. My county went and reassessed all the home values earlier this year to the new, highly speculative values then decided to raise our millage by 32% afterwards. My car and homeowners insurance has over doubled in the last few years without a claim or traffic violation. I made very good money at a very young age working oil and gas, I invested wisely and was able to semi-retire at 35 and just a few years later I am sitting here rethinking my decision to do so. Between my Roth and 401k I have nearly 2.5 million, and still earning, that I cannot really touch without penalty until I'm 65 but my other assets and should have easily carried me for the next 30 years. And anyone curious how someone so young could have that much, my 401k matched up to 9% and I was putting 14% of my $120-$180k since the DOW stock market high was around 12,000 but is nearly at 40,000 today. My truck and car payment are $400 a month combined. My house is paid off. Between my wife and I we have over $5,000 a month in passive income, more if you consider trading on the market as "passive". There is absolutely no reason why we should be feeling the pinch but we absolutely do. This isn't to say that we are hurting like so many people are, but it has absolutely had an effect on us. I genuinely feel bad for the average person making the average wage just trying to tread water in this economy.

They're feeding them processed junk food like substances. Worse they're paying the premium for "Organic" processed junk. Buy actual food, plan meals, learn to cook. Use all of it, use the veg trimmings to make veg stock/ratatouille, meat left overs to make meatier stocks even soups, It's trivial to make a light bolognese sauce that can become a keema curry, then turn into a chill con carne, all are freezable all are suitable for an everything stew. Aim for zero food waste and zero food packaging waste and they'll slash their bill. Yes, they'll eat simpler more staple food, but that's the whole point. A treat is supposed to be a treat, not some shit you decide to eat everyday because your parents are too lazy to tell you no, you can't have pre-packed tamales today even if you think it's your favourite. Spoilt brats, the lot of them, including the parents.

@@yafu2599just an FYI, I do a lot of these things. Everything is still extremely more expensive. Complaining about a qualify of living we've had in our first world country getting demolished by a single administration, is rightly able to be complained about. You seem like a person who takes pride in blaming themselves for outcomes, always can "do better". That's cool. Still doesn't bring back my $100 grocery bill that'd last me 2 weeks. Even when we stretch it with with food-use knowledge. The reality is, no one had to do this prior. We weren't "spoiled" it was a standard of our countries living for decades. We were better than, having to eat gizzard. When we're being fed bugs, you'll be the person going, "LOOK! IF YOU JUST WANT A LITTLE EXTRA THORAX TO GO LONGER YOU'LL NEED TO CUT HERE!" That's awesome man, but we use to eat steak for 4$ a pound. That's not being spoiled, that's comparing a better time of our country to now, and honestly talking about the differences. But, thanks for making our rations go longer while being condescending. We know, we all needed more pompous neighbors feeling high and mighty over being able to ration their FOOD. You think what you know is common knowledge, as someone who also knows, it isn't. That's pretty obvious.

I don’t understand why a family with 6 kids wouldn’t have a Sam’s or Costco membership to buy groceries or at least shop at Aldi’s or a similar store. They could even go online and check prices for the groceries they need and go to 2-4 stores to get the best prices. Even with 3 kids we buy in bulk cause after a certain age their stomachs become bottomless pits of despair that can eat you out of house and home.
