Zucchini pancakes crackle in Lilia Kondrat's kitchen, breaking the silence of the usually noisy apartment. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, she has been trying to get used to this silence and her life alone. Lilia is a policewoman, mother of two daughters and wife of a serviceman. She sent her children to a safe place abroad, and her husband, Roman Kondrat, joined the ranks of the Armed Forces to defend Ukraine.
"All the support I had was taken away from me. Yes, I'm in a relatively safe place. Yes, we didn't have any strikes until recently, but I don't see my children, I don't see my husband, I worry about him," says Lilia.
She, like hundreds of thousands of others, is waiting for her husband from the war: she worries about him every day, carefully reads news from the front, and tries to save her relationship. Many other families, torn apart by the war, face this ordeal. In this film, two of them share their pains and dreams, anxieties and hopes, tears and joys - emotions experienced by millions of Ukrainians.
This is a video story by hromadske journalist Diana Butsko about how war affects relationships and how servicemen try to save their country and their families.
