Eight families whose dogs drowned when a flood ravaged the kennel they were housed in, filed a lawsuit in D.C. Superior Court on Friday citing negligence District Dogs Northeast with gross negligence, among other claims.
According to the complaint, on August 14, 2023, following a flash flood warning, more than six feet of water inundated the District Dogs doggy daycare facility, pushing through doors and windows. The complaint stated that the doggy daycare facility confined the dogs to kennels and when the floodwaters rose to the top of the kennels, eight dogs drowned.
The lawsuit alleges the deaths were "foreseeable and preventable" and holds District Dogs Inc. and its founder and CEO Jacob Hensley accountable.
