Wonderful storyline. Having successfully fielded marriage, motherhood, and guardianship, Kate reached into her dreams. Kate completed her education in order to teach, we watched some hurdles and the day is her triumphant realization she belongs in the classroom teaching music to those who want to learn. The WE of ME...😊😊. My mother never wore pants or slacks, always dresses. Kate reminded me of my mother in every sense of the word. My friends always went to her for advice. Love this show and the memories it invokes. ❤

There was something about Kate. She was very wise. Loving and caring. She wasn't like any of the other TV moms, and she wore dresses and heel shoes like the other moms like Beavers mom and Dennis the Menece even though they where comedies. But there was just something so unique about her.

I've been a music professor most of my adult life in some capacity and remember seeing this episode. I have taught Music Appreciation for non-music majors. At the beginning of the course we attempt to answer the question, "What Is Music?" And the first thing I do is pick up a textbook and slam it on the desk, as Steve Guttenberg does. Followed by the question, "Is that music?" This episode was my inspiration.

...My Mom had a clear one etched with gold...green lid & tempered green handle, electric. She filled it with coffee stored in the brown tupperware coffee and tea storage canisters etched in gold. Her other tupperware storage canisters, tumblers, & containers were Harvest Gold, matching the refrigerator, wallpaper, & cafe curtains & valances. I do miss my early childhood of the 1970's. My paternal grandmother had the stove top tea kettle, white with tempered black handle, orange & yellow floral & bird trim. Her table ware & glassware were white Corning with green floral trim purchased largely with S&H Green Stamps. I still have some Corning ware coffee mugs of my own purchased at an estate sale.

@@user-mj8nf2vp7q I think you might be referring to the CorningWare Drip-o-Lator coffeepot that was introduced in the 1960s. It had 3 sections stacked top to bottom: a clear glass bowl for heated water, a metal coffee receptacle, and the white ceramic pot for the brewed coffee. The Drip-o-Lator worked on the same principle as today's pour-over or electric drip coffee makers. You put ground coffee in the metal coffee receptacle that fits between the glass bowl and white pot. Heat water in a teakettle on the stove. Then pour the hot water into the glass bowl. The hot water drips down through the coffee in the receptacle and into the white ceramic pot below, then the coffee is ready to be served. The white pot came with either a golden wheat or blue cornflower design on it.

When Family was on television in the 1970s I was a high school teacher. I was Nancy Lawrence's age. I had taught elementary school during my first few years, so when I started teaching high school I felt wobbly just like Kate the first year. There was a jerk like the Ogden kid in one of my classes. Kate's right about students like that, it's hard to explain how they can get the upper hand and make you feel bad about yourself. Kate's principal might not always have backed teachers up when they were trying to deal with problem students, and that makes the situation even worse. I empathized with Kate in this episode. And I still remember the name of that kid who was like Philip Ogden.

That is what I dislike about the addition of the Annie character to the show. Very unrealistic from the word go. The child's lack of any type of acting out after such a huge trauma, and the way she behaves like a pompous college professor. I know she is supposed to be a little genius and this is supposed to be funny but I just find it so unrealistic. They really missed the boat with this character, there was a world of good storylines that could have been done if they'd had her behave the way a real child would have.

I know what you mean. It is so sad that some teachers are sworn at, verbally abused, assaulted and are the victims of false allegations. I know that it is not like that in all schools, but it is amazing what some teachers put up with and this is why some people do not want to go into teaching.
@ApartmentKing66
@ApartmentKing66 3 жыл бұрын
@@alexkennedy1820 So do I. But it's not just teachers that get this abuse. I was a school bus driver for 11 years, and I saw anyone who was in the immediate vicinity of certain kids get it. Instructional assistants (fancy terminology for "teacher's aide"), we as bus drivers, our bus attendants, sometimes even custodians got abused. People just don't realize how evil some kids are because they're never in a position where they have to face that fact. I've driven kids who are just plain savages. No sense of boundaries instilled in them. You might as well be driving an animal to school. That's all some of them are except in human bodies. As far as "what some teachers put up with," they do so because they have to: they and we as drivers have such restrictions put upon us as professionals, we face serious consequences if we do anything more than just "write the kid up." We have bills to pay and families to feed too, and the job we're doing (when I still did it) is what we're qualified and licensed to do, and at which, *we earn the most*. So, just walking away from the job usually isn't an option. So, we miserably keep at it while trying to better ourselves financially in other ways.

It's horrible, especially when no one realises how much a person is bullying you. Every time you open your mouth, they make you look ridiculous. Every time you suggest something, they shoot you down and think that they are superior. Yet, they are popular in the work environment. I do not know why people feel the need to be so vicious, vile and mean. It is a disgusting way to treat people. They push people too far and I am sure that they would be horrified if someone had the audacity to treat them in the same manner as they bully others.

First of all, Kristy was (originally) the ONLY reason I watched this show growing up. :-O Now, time for some criticism - If that MY high school, and that kid (Guttenberg) actually SAT in the teacher's chair and took command of the class, one of the MALE teachers would have quickly escorted him out in the hall and it would never happen again! Why would that man (was he the principal, I don't remember) walk in and blame KATE for all the noise they were making, slamming their books against the desk? I don't believe that would EVER happen, it was draw instant attention for being so LOUD. So I don't think that's realistic at all. But the same thing happened on Little House, when the female teacher was FIRED for allowing a male bully to disrupt the class. So...

The decor was more 1940s than 1970s, that's for sure. When the show started in 1976, James Broderick who played Doug was 49. And Sada Thompson, who played Kate, she was 48 when the show first aired. People just looked older back then than they do now.
