Thrashing wheat is a very special time of year. It brings back many memories of my mom and I running out tater tot hotdish to the field. The golden stubble fields in combination with the near yet far away rumble of combine harvesters makes for a great experience.
From the combine, to the truck, to the grain elevator we explore all that wheat harvest has to offer. Including some breakdowns...

Howdy and jak se máš! (Czech for "How are you?")
We're a sugar beet farmin’ family in the Red River Valley of North Dakota! Our farm specializes in growing sugar beets, hard red spring wheat, sunflowers, corn, soybeans, and various types of dry edible beans. The legacy currently consists of my dad, my uncle, my two older brothers, and I (Beet Farmin Mitch).
I am a 6th generation family farmer recently graduating with college degrees in both Agricultural Economics and Crop and Weed Sciences. Enjoy as I showcase our operations everyday work, grow as a young farmer, be a goofball, and walk out the most important thing to me. My love for King Jesus!
My hope is that you may be entertained and spurred on to grow in your passion and knowledge for all things agriculture!

I just cant believe how they have access to just such a large variety of fruits , trees and plants. Feels like they live in paradise. Fresh produce right on their door step , surrounded by nature and enjoyed together in a close knit family and community! All the money in the world cant buy what they have.

At 8:44 would it be better to combine to the center of that field and run counter clockwise spiral from the center out. That way there would be no turning [wasting time and fuel] at the corners and the header would stay in the grain. I've did the math before on fields like that it would save about 7% on fuel and time.

Harder to unload though.
@mobeydick37
@mobeydick37 Жыл бұрын
@@karlrovey Not really, first you can't start dead center and make tight left hand turns, you would have to start about 60 feet from the center 120' dia. and make left hand turn. By the time the hopper needed to be emptied the turn would be gradual.
@karlrovey
@karlrovey Жыл бұрын
@Mobey Dick The layout I'm used to is to start from the outside and work inwards. Then go back and get the corners. That said, there are times when the wind, lodged wheat, terraces, etc. force you to do something else.

@@beetfarminmitch okay. Do u grow winter wheat at all? I know it's pretty cold in ND in winter, but is that a huge problem?
@beetfarminmitch
@beetfarminmitch 2 жыл бұрын
No winter wheat! It’s very very rare. Like I’ve only ever seen one field around where we farm in my whole life. The winters are generally too cold for it and the risk with growing that is higher compared to Spring Wheat. We usually have plenty of time for Spring wheat too.

@@beetfarminmitch a couple more questions. How much precipitation do you have per year? How evenly are they distributed? And what about flax? Do you grow it?
@beetfarminmitch
@beetfarminmitch 2 жыл бұрын
@@riderofnature5023 about 21 inches! It really depends on the year, but it seems most of it haven’t been distributed very evenly the past few years.
