In Ghana we add the word 'please' to answer certain questions ask as a sign of respect to the person asking the question, especially if the person is older. So he was just showing respect to Uncle Steve.

Nothing wrong with their pronounciation it’s called queens accent British accent. Ghanaians don’t pronounce words like they live in America. British pronounce the word vehicle the same way. I think this is to broaden your horizon. People in other parts of the world don’t pronounce words same as Americans.
