Russell Johnson flew 44 combat missions as a B-25 bombardier in WW2. His plane was shot down and he broke both ankles in the crash. He received numerous awards for his service. The greatest generation.

I read a biography about him. Apparently he loved his role as the Skipper. It never bothered him to be known for that role. I named one of my dogs Gilligan. He was a stray who was in really bad shape, rescued by a client of the vet clinic where I work. When he was well enough, he was allowed to run around the clinic and he always followed me, so I called him my little buddy. So, when he became my dog, the name choice was obvious.

Alot of actors hated being so closely associated with a character they played for so many years after production ended, but Alan Hale absolutely relished dressing up as, and being in his 'Skipper' character. I asked her if she had any souvenirs from the show. She told me she still had a pair of red shorts that she wore home from the last day of taping. At that time they didn’t know the show was going to be cancelled. She did ask me if I was a Ginger or Mary Ann guy. I told her I was a Ginger guy on Saturday nights, and Mary Ann the rest of the week. She told me she loved my answer. I’ll never forget how wonderful her perfume smelled. @@carlsaganlives5112 if this is a gay remark, I can’t or won’t speak for the dead, as for me I was dropped off from work and noticed the crowd and movie set ups so I eased over enough to catch Mr. West completing a couple of takes when they yelled “cut “. So being from Massachusetts, I watched a little of how they wrapped things up and that’s when Mr. West spoke to me. I went home and told my wife, kids, friends, and even called my parents and told them. I was a kid when Batman was a very popular television show. But as a grown man, in my early thirties then, it was a different experience.

Actually, although I LOVED both Batman & Gilligan's Island (& still do), they were pretty stupid, insipid shows. Compare them to today's Golden Age of TV (HBO, Showtime, Netflix, Starz, BBC, PBS, AMC, the networks, Amazon Prime, Paramount, etc., etc.). There are SO MANY great, well-written shows today, it's impossible to watch a quarter of them. There's a reason why big name movie actors are falling all over themselves to do TV. Whereas, back in 1983, TV was still looked down on by movie actors. Part of that was unfair stigma, but it's partly because there hasn't been this many great shows since the original Golden Age of TV.

I first saw Lee Meriwether in Barnaby Jones, and saw the 1966 Batman movie a little while later. Always loved Dawn Wells, and Yvonne Craig as Batgirl. I knew she had guest-starred on Star Trek and The Wild, Wild West, and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, but I was also pleased to find out that she had been on McHale's Navy, My Favorite Martian and even The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis. '60s tv series had many female stars who ushered us into manhood, even in syndication in the '70s; I'd like to add Marta Kristen from Lost in Space to the list. And in its third and final season, Angela Cartwright(hope I'm spelling it right). She was always a cute kid, who grew up to become a very lovely young lady.

@Q In 5D There were more than a few of times when it was the women who were going overboard to kiss Richard. I know thinking back to how I felt when it was on the are, and how I view it now -- it wasn't the kissing that made it seem "eww", it was the way he did it. I think that was a deliberate persona he adopted for the show... the game show host who is a casa nova, the kind of guy who would say, "Come back to the dressing room after the show if you want to." It's also part of why we say "eww" when we say "eww" when we see the picture of Joe Biden sniffing women's hair, when at the time it actually happened, it would have been done to adopt a persona of "I'm that nice old guy who gives you hugs and makes you feel nice". What happened to those persona's? Richard's was a "sexy" persona that people in the 70s and 80s would identify as being cool, and back then it wasn't considered inappropriate to proposition women since the woman could just say no, toss a drink in your face, or even slap you (today she'd get sued for that), etc. Today, Richard's persona is being stomped out by a bunch of misguided #metoo trolls who think predators advertise publicly. They don't. It's the producer who treats 9 out of 10 actresses with respect and professionalism publicly, so that he can pressure the 10th on into sex and if she goes public, there is a line of character witnesses to shame the accuser. As for Joe Biden's persona, "Grandpa Joe"... we have gone from being a culture that was hands on, where kids hugged their parents, aunts and uncles... to a culture so taken aback by the stories of missed red flags about the relative who was later accused of abusing someone in the family. So now, Grandpa doesn't shake his grandson's hand and give a kiss to his grandaughter -- they both get handshakes, and that is a sad thing, because it makes the grandaughter feel like she is supposed to grow up like her brother, and not a woman. Meanwhile the brother looks around and sees his sister getting complimented on her firm handshake, and wonders what it means to be a man.

No, it’s just before the internet and today’s media when celebs could keep their dirty laundry and activities a secret.

Did everyone seriously miss the cocaine cue that Yvonne gave to Richard? Or how Skipper asked if he ever considered making a porno?

Yes, as corny as the characters they played were, they projected class and decency... unlike those today. However, Richard Dawson was a known creep even back in the 1960s.

All wonderful people that will be missed. But man, Vincent is such a legend. His voice may be known by more generations to come. And I LOVED him on the Brady Bunch 🙃

I saw a picture of her as a silent film actress from the 1920's. She was a doll.

It is a shame that most everyone 30 years old and younger have no idea the massive star power on that stage

The best part of this has to be when the guy who played Robin still says 'DRAT' when he gets a wrong answer!
