I had a similar experience in 1988 with my nephew. He fell off the end of a pier into a lake. Thankfully he was okay. Today he is 39 years old.

This is awesome and brings back some memories. My dad,my brother, and myself were fishing one time on Smith Lake in Jasper,Alabama. My dad and I were on the front of the boat flipping in some brush and my brother was in the back by the motor. I set the hook and a Rock Bass came flying out of the water and flew over my dad and myself heads and right at my brother. It hit my unsuspecting brother in the face and knocked him in the lake and for a few seconds all we could see was the rod tip sticking out of the water. Well I'm glad my brother could swim because my dad and I were in the bottom of the boat rolling on the floor and laughing. This is what fishing with family is all about. I love it!!!

Every one of my nieces and nephews who fished with me went in the water at some point. A couple had 10 pound northern pike pull them in(they held onto the rod and refused to lose the fish!) Some tripped on something in the boat and over the side... mom or dad bumped a few over the side... life jackets were a MUST until they turned 18... as they got older they all bought the self inflating really light strap style ones that don't look like a life jacket(don't look dorky in their words!). The lake I fished could go from calm to 4' waves in minutes so not wearing one was not an option. When it got rough I even grabbed mine and put it on!

When my daughter fell in she was actually laughing and said " daddy come get me " 😂 I definitely recommend teaching your kids how to swim and float on their back even with a life preserver and most importantly teach the entire family not to panic. The panic was insane for everyone in this video considering he was wearing his preserver. This video is prime example of what not to do when someone goes overboard
