This is why old people shouldn't be in charge of anything, nor have any say in society. This isnt like the old days when you only got to a ripe old age if you were wise. Now everyone gets old, and the entire time after they leave school, their brains get more and more useless.

I stopped watching Maher years ago. And this is why. He’s horribly misinformed about pretty much everything, but that has never stopped him from having an opinion. He’s developed so many techniques for deflecting and distracting during a conversation that that’s pretty much all he’s got; no facts, just verbal sleight of hand. It seems that Seth knew what he’d be walking into and just sat there and listened for every one of Maher’s tricks and responded appropriately. He was calm and prepared.

@@antipsychosoup6709 He wasn't claiming that Seth himself spent his life dedicated to studying science. He's referring to the doctors, immunologists, and scientists that have spent their lives studying communicable diseases. Seth is, like it or not, going by the books. Bill is not. Bill is not a doctor and isn't qualified to be giving anyone sound medical advice. I understand this podcast is just for clicks and entertainment purposes, but Bill's opinion on medical science is no more valid than my plumber's opinion on foreign diplomacy. It's not his thing.

@@wlmounce False on both. It's perfectly correct to separate two consecutive adjectives with a comma when they are describing the same noun. It's also correct to put punctuation inside of quotation marks when the quote is ending a sentence. My comment was more directed at mocking the redundancy of the original poster's description of studying "actual science" in "science based detail." Whatever the hell that means.

@@anthgov5966I mean, that is still ignorance, and does still work. Not quite to the same capacity though, as a common day driver doesn't go 80+ mph or more. While racers do. However, smoking statistically kills, massively. It's not just anecdotal or even recently discovered, it's a perpetual fact atp. And it is hypocritical for such a person to weigh in on others health decisions. While a driver CAN be safe and be perfectly fine, a smoker can never be. It is always an inherent harmful neglect to one's body to smoke. 100% of the time.

@@ApinofArc - I don't know that I agree that it's hypocritical. To be clear, I do not agree with Bill's position whatsoever, but I'm not convinced that a person with an unhealthy habit can't weight in on other health decisions/concerns. 20% of physicians smoke according to the 2021 NIH study of the prevalence of smoking among health care providers. Sure, if a Doctor smokes and then goes around preaching to others about the dangers of smoking, or an obese doctor goes around demanding everyone exercise, that would absolutely make them a hypocrite. But I think the hypocrisy is specific to the principle. A doctor can be a smoker and still advocate for proper vaccine education and administration. A doctor can be obese and still advocate for one cancer medication over another. I don't agree that they'd be immediately disqualified on grounds of hypocrisy. Bill isn't smoking and then yelling at all the smokers. He's smoking and then talking nonsense about vaccines. That's what ultimately makes him unqualified to weigh in on medical practices, but I don't see hypocrisy here.

Even if you're young and healthy the number of young and healthy people who died of COVID is far far larger than any potention vaccine complications. My wife and I were fortunate in that we git covid (I don't know how many times) but never affected us. We only found out we had it when we gave blood and told us we had the antibodies. We also work in Medical industry and we did get the vaccine, not for us but to add protection from us transferring it to others. That was the point people were missing. It wasn't a total cure or totally stop transmission but it greatly lowered the affects which could mean life or death for many. They also missed the point that is very obvious. The state that did the worst at handling covid & vaccines (Florida) also had the most deaths & hospitalizations by population %. The states that did the best had lowest %. The country that did the worst, USA, had worst % and countries that did more protections & higher % of vaccines had way lower % of deaths & hospitalizations. Simply math & principle of Occam's razor.

just to clarify as someone from Europe (UK), yes we did give people vaccinations even if they already had it, we didn't at first because of a very limited supply of the vaccine which thankfully we let doctors decided what to do with. and they decided to provide it first for those most at risk of death, which generally weren't the people who had already had COVID but didn't require hospitalisation for it. 9 times out of ten when an American says "they did it in Europe" they have no idea what they are talking about, otherwise they would be more specific than "Europe" many countries took many different approaches and actually the data produced about how well these various methods worked has helped us to adapt our plans to be most effective, at least when the politicians and idiot podcasters who think they know better than scientists get out of the way.

Fact based? Just on his first assertion that natural immunity has been debunked, that's completely untrue. It offers protection against the worst outcomes equal or better than a vaccine, plus it's likely longer lasting, plus it gives you mucosal protection which is more broad spectrum than spike protein targeted protection. Yes, a vaccine will offer better protection to someone at risk who is naive to the virus than their own immune system, but the constant advocacy for boosters for people who have had COVID is anti scientific and massively pro big pharma. Instead the advocacy should be for boosting people's natural immune systems through exercise, weight loss and vitamin D.

I got the vaccine when it first came out and my good friend’s mother and brother did not. They both died from covid. I was around them all that time while they were sick and I never got sick even though I was at their house helping out almost daily. Then this last year I was like ya know, maybe I don’t need to get it. I’ll be fine. In November, I caught it somehow and I spent 18 days sick. I was so sick, I went into the ER once. I am an otherwise healthy individual. I am in great shape, not overweight and I don’t have any other health problems. When I went to the ER, they said everything looked fine except for the fact that I had covid. Now I didn’t die but something that people often don’t bring up is, do you really want to spend 18 days off work without pay? My work does not give that much sick leave. Plus this happened during Thanksgiving. I had to cancel all my plans with family and friends as well. I missed out on money and I missed out on cherished time with people I only get to see several times a year. I know this is an anecdotal experience but having gotten the vaccine and then not getting it this past year, my personal experience has made it clear to me that there are way more pros than cons to getting the vaccine.
@Progbassist
@Progbassist 5 ай бұрын
And yet they are completely opposite stories about people getting the vaccines and still getting really sick with covid and also getting it multiple times in a year. Me and my bro still didnt get vaccinated and I've only had covid once and it wasnt that bad(lasted about 1 week) and my bro had it 2 times, and he also survived. I'm not antivax in any way, but for me the decision not to get vaccinated was simply the fact that they didnt have enough time to actually test the vaccines on people. So I rather trust my own immune system and try to boost it, than take something "uncertain" shot into my body.

Agree, even with being fully vaccinated, when I finally got it five months before they declared it was over, I was down for two weeks. I would prefer not to get it again. Lost two weeks of pay (and it contributed to losing that job), it was months before I felt like I was back to normal. I think it's very likely that if I had gotten it earlier and without vaccines, it would have taken me out. So thanks, Science!

The selfish, and vile behavior of the anti-maskers, anti-vaxxers, and the lovers of trump’s anger and hatred, put everyone at risk. It’s pretty safe to say that if there were to be another pandemic of a deadly disease, we can’t count on our fellow Americans to come together as one, to fight it. There was one study in Europe and one in Israel with results that indicated that boosters can actually have a weakening effect on the body’s ability to sustain natural immunity. Plus, it just makes logical sense to hypothesize that frequently artificially stoking the immune system could have the unwanted side effect of weakening the immune system’s natural responses. So yes, it’s reasonable to assert that one could be more prone to contracting COVID after so many shots.

@@joralemonvirgincreche There it is - some halfwit who thinks they can educate about "how science works". "One study is meaningless..." If you had any reading comprehension you would have noticed that I mentioned two studies. Many like yourself also fail to recognize that science, even by your own definitions, is not being practiced in this circumstance, by either side of the debate. One side, because they don't have the resources or funding to do anything beyond asking questions and doing their own research. The data on booster efficacy is very limited because there is no additional profit motive or punishment avoidance motive associated with proving that boosters are ineffective and potentially harmful. Pharmaceutical companies manufacturing vaccines fund their own studies, they're exempt from consequences associated with harm caused by those vaccines, and their biggest customers by far are now sovereign governments who are spending other people's money by fiat to buy their products. Where is their motivation to study this and "do science?" There is none, which is why all we have to go off of are observations and using logical sense to make reasonable assumptions. Which, by the way, is how a scientific hypothesis is formed to begin with. You know, the first step in "how science works."
