We’ve “lived” in Alberta most of our marriage, but we’ve never been to Waterton Lakes National Park! So we decided, it’s time to change that! We packed up the skoolie with all our gear, loaded up our 7 kids, and hit the road to go camping in Waterton!
What we found when we arrived was amazing! Waterton was like a mini Banff, with less people, but all the cuteness! Waterton has all the beauty, all the amazing hikes, and some great little shops just like Banff, but you can walk everywhere in the entire town in less than 10 minutes!
Our biggest goal on this trip was to go hiking… but we woke up our first morning after arriving to snow on the ground!!!! So we waited and hoped it would warm up enough to melt the snow so it wasn’t too wet and slippery to hike with kids. In the meantime, we enjoyed some local restaurants, the beautiful lake, and all the abundance of wildlife that was everywhere around us!
Finally, on our last full day there, it warmed up and the sun came out, making it the perfect day to hike, not too hot and not too cold!!
We hiked the Bears Hump all the way to the top, and every one of the kids hiked the whole way without being carried! We were so impressed! As a treat for all of us making it to the top, we went back down the mountain to town and got ice cream!
Leaving was bittersweet, it was time to get back home, but we had such a great time, we wanted to stay longer…
We will definitely be back!!!
