There are lot of people here in Oklahoma putting up barn/metal buildings, finishing them out and living in them. It's faster and easier than building a brick or frame house, since it can be ordered as a kit. We have several in our area and they are really nice.

That's awesome, I also live in Montana. My wife and I have plans to build a pole barn shop in the near future and we were planning on buying a modular but I'm really interested in possibly doing a pole barn house. How did you insulate your house and do you stay plenty warm?

I love deer sausage, ribs and jerky so much. My brother in law used to make the best wild hog roast I've ever had, melt in your mouth. Mmmmm. My Aunt smoked wild turkeys every year. Even though it's been years since I had one, regular turkey still pales in comparison.

We have property through family. Our drive way is a sharp turn next to our well. Only way in or out so we can't get anything here to live. This is exactly what we are going to build. I wish they did more of a tour throughout the home. This will save us so much money in the long run rather than buying a house in town. Also the biggest plus it will be passed down to our kids completely debt free.

I see a lot of metal storage sheds, cheap or free on Craig's List. My fire wood shed was a 10' x 12' metal shed, that had some rusted out panels. I removed the damaged panels, and made it into a 10' x 8' shed, with zero cost. I'll watch for another one, insulate it, and make a cooler and/or smoker. Great idea ! ! !

When we were planning on what type of house we were going to build, this was one of our ideas which was shot down by the zoning board. I think it would have looked better than the other houses down the street and around the block. We should have moved out in the country instead of in the city.
@dirtpatcheaven

Unfortunately, the closer you get to the city the more restrictions there are. Kind of a bummer, right?

Dirtpatcheaven - Sure is. Couldn't build the Sea Container house because it was pre manufactured, couldn't do pole barn because it contained the word barn and looked like one. couldn't build the underground dug out style because of "plumbing" issues. I can't even build a shop because it is zoned multifamily. O the joys of small town living.

I have just about the same set up. 40x60 pole barn 10' ceilings. 5 bedroom 2 bath. I have a lot more in my property cost as my drive is over a mile and our county regulation's required a fire hydrant at the end of our private road. 22,000 in water line, and county regulated private drive 25,000. I will add photos in one of our future video.

Neil hear in the US it a loose term of construction used as a Pole barn, basically you drill your supporting wall members( in my case 8"x 8" treated lumber) into the ground about 3 ft.deep. Mine are then poured with concrete witch then runs over into my slab floor. The outer edges are thicker then the slab (this is called a monolithic pour) Prevent you from having to dig footers and ties you wall post, your footer, and your slab all together as a continues slab of concrete. From there you build your structure off the wood post. This construction is typically used in construction of a Pole Barn in the US. We build ours and finished it as a full house with ribbed metal exterior and drywall interior. It was a lot less expensive then conventional style home and when we have the money to build a new house we will have a finished insulated barn or work shop. I am going to do a video shortly on my channel if you get time stop by and check it out. We are currently looking at a larger track of land in Northern Kentucky and we will build a timber frame home from logs milled from the property.Good Luck with your searches for land sir.
@diversifiedacreshomestead102
@diversifiedacreshomestead102 7 жыл бұрын
It vary's from area to area. Land location, amount of timber, spring water, etc. We paid a little under $15,000.00 for our land 15 acres it was high to me. The land we are currently looking at I can buy for $1,200.00 acre and it has timber, year round live spring water, with a small lake on it. Further away from town and in the hills. But that what we want.

I have a few questions if you don't mind. I also have a barn house (36'X72' - 10' porch). Question 1: Could you explain a little about your interior walls using OSB and drywall mud? 2: Do you have the roll/silver bubble wrap insulation under the metal? If so, was this wrap installed under the porch roof? 3: Did you build the barn structure yourself or did a company do it? The reason I ask - I went the drywall route and am still in the process of finishing it (really hate finishing it). I plan on selling this property, taking an early retirement and building again but a little smaller. The idea of quicker and cheaper walls intrigues me. Our porch roof doesn't have the bubble wrap insulation and when the temperature is just right the condensation makes like rain on the porch

Homesteading With Dutch A pole barn is a simple structure made out of poles. You can get the poles by cutting down young sapling trees. the roof is usually nothing more that poles laid across the top then moss or sheet roofing can be attached. usually pole barns have no insulation except some people put mud in the openings between the poles. This is called a stable because horses are usually kept in this type of structure. Which is built out of good wood & insulated.

pole barnnounnoun: pole barn; plural noun: pole barnsa farm building with no foundation and with sides consisting of corrugated steel or aluminum panels supported by poles set in the ground typically at eight-foot intervals. Watch my video on the the build it fits this definition perfect, maybe different parts of the country think of pole barns a little different. This is a pole barn where I live in Oklahoma

A pole barn is normally 3-sided and open on one side, and has no floor. A 3-sided shed.

John Dough not where we live, this is a pole barn. look at my video on how we built it, poles in the ground lol. Different areas have different ideas of what a pole barn is.
