@E M yeah. I bet that’s absolutely humiliating for him. And having to live through that pain and humiliation for the rest of his life all because he just wanted to belong to a group that was supposed to have his back. To take care of him, and to look out for him. That’s what brothers are supposed to do. This whole thing makes me emotional because it’s so tragic.

@ItsA CruelWorld NotSafe forKids. HavingKidsIsWrong without knowing the specifics of his condition at this moment and the prognosis on his outlook for life, and strictly going off what has been reported, I would have to agree with you. As much as the family is willing to care for him and want him alive, it sounds like they should probably let Danny fly free on up to heaven. Give him a shot of adrenaline like in the movie Million Dollar Baby and let him rest.

I was a freshman at Mizzou when this occurred. I really wish the university would have done more to hold the students responsible for their actions. Everyone sat around this past year wondering who this was and what happened to them. It's devastating to know this is the full story. You don't need to be a part of greek life to be social in college. The toxic behavior just isn't worth it. I had a wonderful freshman year full of friends and memories without a frat. Only give our best, when we fail at mediocrity. We Love rather than hate when we admit we're one humanity. We always give more, when compassion moves our heart with unbridled generosity. We Become more of our potential when we are made to see, that clearly our minds can believe in unfathomable possibilities, while seizing every opportunity, here in lies one's destiny. More than our scars, higher than our stars, for in our flaws are what defines our features, they're uniquely ours, as human creatures. We can run faster than on our slowest day. Reason better, and thinking it through all the way, regardless which direction our emotions may sway. We can find our voice when speechless, our strong words with meekness and our Courage in weakness. Always patience not quickness. Silence for peace than loudness, quietness of fear, not hopeless, for time and effort are equally unbiased. We are more than the stories we're told, we're the one's we write, each page unfold. We are the sum of our Lies and truth, fantasy, fiction, faith, and myths, no matter how uncouth. These are what shape us, our lives lived is the proof. We can be more right than wrong. Parents would be wise to teach their kids to always be alert, because the "friends" they make in college, especially frat "brothers" or soro "sisters", are likely to abandon them and do nothing to protect them from serious injury or death. Parents would also do well to teach their kids to be on the lookout for someone who is impaired to help them immediately, perhaps save their life. Peers should not be setting the standard for how an individual acts. The kids that have that maturity probably just stay away from the greek b.s. in the first place.

This exact thing happened to me back in 2009 when I was a student in a Southern California college. I was made to drink whiskey with some fraternity "brothers" as part of initiation. Last thing I remember was blacking out in a park. When I woke up the next day I was naked on the fraternity couch covered by a blanket. I was laughed at and made to walk back to campus with my soiled clothes in a trash bag. I reported the hazing act and felt so ashamed of myself. A top official for the fraternity came to campus and the organization was shut down for half the school year; no real accountability. I left the college as a result of this. God bless Danny and his family. Those involved need to learn some serious consequences for having no regard for someone's life.

The whole pledging system of fraternities and sororities is just organized bullying from what I've seen and I think it is time colleges do away with them. Tell your kid to dropout of his fraternity and focus on school instead. If possible, tell him to double major in accounting and business analytics with a minor in political science or a foreign language. This will leave him very busy with less time to even sleep not even talking about partying. 4 years from now he'll graduate safe with a well paying consulting job offer and make you proud. Most of these frat kids don't even go to class thus know nothing even after graduating college!

This happened a few years back at Florida State University…so sad. Universities and the fraternities need to be accountable. It’s a shame that hazing it’s still happening and ruining the lives of many students and their families. At the very least the Universities should required a course about hazing prior or after orientation. The University of Central Florida requires to take an online video about “hazing” just right after orientation. Of course, there is also much to do in the communication between parents and their kids who are going to the University, situations like this need to be talked about. My prayers to Dany and his family. May the legal system hold accountable to all those involved in such cruel experience that ruined Dany’s future.

@@angelicavigil2254 I’m certain that despite being in college you’ll still probably struggle to read this. It’s fine. *Projection refers to unconsciously taking unwanted emotions or traits you don't like about yourself and attributing them to someone else. A common example is a cheating spouse who suspects their partner is being unfaithful.* So, in this case that would mean that I don’t want to admit to myself that, in an identical scenario, or in other comment sections, I’m the one praying for potential “reepists” that ended up brain dead. Which, by simply reading my comments, we can infer clearly isn’t true. Because I’m celebrating his incapacitation and lifelong inability to go out and harm anyone else. As fraternity members are known to do, just as they did to him. I’m not praying for him, or anyone like him, which is pretty in line with me and my overall views and behavior. I never would. You are. Saying that I’m projecting, likely because it’s a popular buzzword you’ve heard thrown around before, literally makes zero sense. *“You don’t know what has or hasn’t happened to me”.* Well, I’d say it’s a fairly safe assumption that you’ve never been r worded by a fraternity member, as my comment implied you hadn’t. And if you have, out of the two of us, you’re definitely a lot more twisted than I am-praying for someone that, statistically, had a very high likelihood of doing to others what was once done to you. If they do this to each other what do you think they do to the 18 year old girls fresh out of high school? How do you not register the extreme probability that if it hadn’t happened to him he would’ve done it to someone else in the fraternity? That’s what he was there for, that’s the point of these little groups. He didn’t end up in this state by volunteering to feed the kittens at the local animal shelter on the weekends. He ended up in this state because he couldn’t keep up with the predator lifestyle and got got. It’s wild that “higher” education is wasted on people like you when there are billions of people all over the planet that could do so much more with it. Absolutely wild. Well, I’m sure you’re busy putting said education to good use, so I’ll leave you to it. Have a fantastic day, and try not to get attacked while you’re busy praying for monsters.

We do report people who haze, and they most likely will get kicked out of greek life. I have been reading negative comments about greek life. Greek life has both pros and cons. The pros are: lifelong friendships, leadership, study hours,, networking, volunteering, and raising money for our philanthropy. The cons are: paying expensive dues, bad time management, mandatory events, and sadly people who have been hazed. Greek life was time consuming, but it kept me busy, helped me have a good gpa, I met my close friends, cherishing memories for a lifetime,, and I'm a better person. Seems like his frat dads should be charged with 2nd degree attempted murder, not a misdemeanor. Danny's family could do a lot to publicize Danny's plight so that this will never happen to another student. But there have been over 50 such hazing incidents since 2000, so I wouldn't be surprised if there will be another Danny soon. In my opinion he has suffered a fate worse than death. I wonder if he is aware of what has happened to him.

This absolutely criminal. Why does anyone want to join a frat? They really do nothing but take your money, dictate behavior et…where has the good gone?

Did the mom really expect a bunch of other wasted college kids to know he was in cardiac arrest and call 911? Cmon, they didn’t just leave him there to die. This was a series of unfortunate events that all parties played a role in. A lot of people have been to parties and been told to take a shot/s by their friends, it up to YOU when to say no and when to know YOUR limit. I really hate when people don’t just take their L and move on, lady YOUR son brought an entire bottle of alcohol. Frat or not it seems like he would’ve tried to impress his friends. Most guys do.

In general, you're right that weed is less dangerous than booze. Except today's weed, (unless you get regulated stuff or grow your own), could very well be laced with crazy amount of fentanyl or other dangerous crap . But, yes, GOOD weed indeed a better and safer choice than "good" booze.

@@ScarCaskt if you buy it on the street or smoke with your dopey college friends who got it from wherever TF they got it, you don't know what you're smoking. Thats my point. People who sell it illegally are not necessarily going to be concerned if it is illegally laced with opioids, other hallucinogens, or anything (and if it passed thru several hands to sell, the person you got it from doesnt know either). Back in the day, you could buy weed in any park in NewYork without worrying about it being tainted. Nobody smokes fentanyl on purpose.

This happens over and over again and it’s always the same scenario. Hazing needs to be doubled down on just as much as anything else at this point because it happens so often and it’s SO PREVENTABLE. How do people know someone is in distress while they are under the influence and then continue to leave them ALONE? That is a recipe of disaster.. and it’s sad that they don’t care enough to know that. This is so sad and I’m so sorry Danny and his family have to go through this.

I’m so sorry. As a member of a sorority, I fight every day against hazing…..before and after joining an organization. This should be a lesson to every frat and sorority…..hazing is against the law and this should be a lesson to everyone. Praying for the family.

I was in a sorority too and we took hazing much more seriously…if I’d been hazed there’s no way I would have continued. It’s not worth it. I can’t believe this is still happening, I hope Danny and his family get the justice they deserve. To anyone who is thinking about joining a frat/sorority in college, if you ever feel like you are being hazed or pressured into doing something you don’t want to do: LEAVE. It’s not worth your time, and those aren’t your friends - you will find other friends in college and you will find a different organization to be apart of.

The decision to drink more than we can handle is one almost all of us have made. The decision to let someone go this far and not call an ambulance...they should be held accountable.

Better yet, the drinker himself should know better before attempting such a dangerous activity. No amount of accountability of others will help Danny now. This should be a warning to all upcoming college students.
