I find it rather interesting how, in the autumn of 1984 for Back to the Future, Lea Thompson was cast for Lorraine Baines based on her actor connection with Eric Stoltz in Wild Life (later reunited for Some Kind of Wonderful in 1987), yet Crispin Glover was seemingly cast for George McFly based on his actor connection with Michael J. Fox in this Family Ties episode, Birthday Boy. I can see why Jane Feinberg, Mike Fenton and Judy Taylor picked him; Crispin Glover had an endearing, nervous energy about him when he played Doug, and he played to that same acting strength for George McFly. This was one of the best epis of the show. So funny!

Fox in The Secret Of My Success. Her Father John Vernon played Dean Wormer in Animal House as well as the Short Lived Series Delta House. Both Michael Gross & Meredith Baxter Birney also worked on The Young & The Restless.

I don't think there was ever any bad blood between Michael J. Fox and Crispin Glover, but it's a shame Crispin was so upset with the producers of Back to the Future that he refused to have any association with anything to do with it, which included letting Doug be a recurring character on Family Ties, post Back to the Future. Currently, I think the only one Crispin still has a beef with is producer Bob Gale.
