Hearing that you are in the ICU right now and on a ventilator - I hope you can make a full recovery and be able to read comments again to know we all appreciate your passion so much and what you have brought to book tube. Your wealth of knowledge and experience reading is my go to for an opinion on a book I’m thinking of picking up. Praying all is well Brian.

I sufffer from Retinitis pigmentosa, and was forced to leavemy career in finance at 58. Now at 60, I use a 47 inche TV for my monitor, and I can no lonber read without major magnification. I have to read audio books. I can see well enought to talk safely outside on sidewalks and can cross the street safely. My left eye is 20/400, my right is 20/140 and those are corrected. My visual field is under 10 degrees. I can still cook and clean and take care of myself with some help from my wife. I can understand what you are going through because I've been dealing with similar problems for decades, and they are an will keep getting worse. What I can say is that if it has to happen, I'd rather go through this now in 2024 than even 20 years ago. There's so much to be thankful for and so much to look forward to. So don't dispare. Even as my sight demishes, I still think the best is yet to come.

My mom also has RP. She was diagnosed when I was 15. I’m now 40, and she’s got basically a pin point of sight left in the left eye. Things have gotten SO much better in the last 10 years. She’s extremely independent, and still is in better shape than both my and my dad. 😂 She can do loads I can’t, because of my MS. I tell people the only thing she doesn’t do is drive. They still travel, and she still cooks and does things with friends and goes to the movies and listens to audiobooks and just a full life in general. Positivity is her middle name, and I’ve learned so much about how to enjoy life and laugh at things that happen with my MS. She’s the strongest person I know. All the best to both of you! ❤️

I sympathize with you man. I got Chron’s Disease almost 30 years ago and never realized there was a very small percentage that it can spread to your eyes. LUCKY ME…My eyes started going south about 10 years ago and I’m legally blind now. (glaucoma on top of that) My right eye is pretty much shot. Left is hanging in there. My problem is light. All day I’m in sunglasses. Can’t read books because the page whiteness cooks my eyes. Thank God for Audio Books! I listen to 5-6 a month these days. Lots of stuff you have recommended btw. Hang in there brother. I’m just happy to be here!

For your computer, use the high contrast mode for everything. Get rid of that white background. Darke background with white text will help a lot with that eye strain. try it adn see if it helps.

Hang in there Brian. This may sound strange but in the last 3 years a became a fragrance collector. I buy mostly vintage. I even wear them to bed while reading or doing audiobooks..it's so calming. Some day get your nose on some great fragrances when you want beautiful art. Sorry if that sounds odd but I fell in love with fragrance. I hope it gets better for you. I love your books.

I usually am a lurker on your videos but want to say that I appreciate that you share this information. I am also going blind due to a degenerative retinal disease, retinitis pigmentosa. I think a lot of people take good vision for granted and it's important to know this can happen to anyone and that those of us who are losing our vision are not alone. It's great that reading is actually soothing to your eyes. I had to give up printed books a while ago, but have found I get more reading done now in audio than I was able to with actual books. I also feel like there has to be some type of assistive devices out there that would help you to be able to continue with your artwork. I know there are blind artists, but not sure what they use if anything.

You called to mind the Emily Dickinson poem, “I measure every Grief I meet” because of the consonances despite differences that I can relate to in your telling your story. I still remember that previous video and wondered how you’ve been doing. Glad reading is working for you. 👍

Thank you for the update Sir. I am so sorry about the needle injections, they sound so painful. Hope they continue to work. My thoughts and prayers for your good health and wellbeing. Regarding typing, I was wondering if you can do something like the outlining in a notebook and then for drafting, there are settings which can reduce the strain on your eyes. I am sure you are already doing those but it's worth spending a bit more time optimising your screen so that your eyes experience the least possible strain when you are typing. Happy to hear your reading is going well. I have enjoyed your series and look forward to your next publication. In the meantime, all my best wishes and see you in the book review/haul videos.

Brian, don't they numb your eyes before the injections? I've lost most vision in my right eye and get them checked every 6-8 months or so. I get numbing drops but no injections. There must be something they can do to help you. Ps. I go to Kellogg clinic in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It is affiliated with the University of Michigan.
