I grew up in Banning so we were always visiting Palm Springs. My father was a gardner & landscaper for Bob Hope. The homes you showed were very familiar. My father used to take us around & show us homes. Liberace' s home used to have candelabras on both sides of his front door. Disney's home had bushes in the shape of Micky Mouse and other characters. My daughter loves Palm Trees. Interesting fact, is that they're not natural to Palm Springs, they're shipped in & planted. My dad worked at many homes there during the 60's de died 1976. THANK YOU for this trip down Memory Lane.

This is so fun. I grew up in Orange County and went on day trips to Palm Springs with my parents in the 50’s. I loved the old Palm Springs. The homes were real homes and their residences in “Hollywood” were bigger but still homes. Not McMansions.

I grew up in banning as well. Love Palm Springs and as a kid I use to go to a friends house to swim and when you look up, you’d see Bob Hopes house and we sometimes here the music coming from there when he had partys. My mom meet Liberace twice, Elvis and Jason Robards when she work at the mall that use to be there.

The Casa Adaire house (toward the beginning of your video) Elizabeth Taylor didn't just stay there she actually owned it for many years. I cleaned it for a number years a long time ago. There were many wonderful pictures of celebrities that partied in the house on the walls of the house. I use to polish the original piano that Cole Porter played at. There was a big picture on the piano of him playin it in the house. Who's who of the old days partied in that house, including JFK. It was awesome to see those pictures and turn and see the exact spot they stood. The swimming pool is the largest private residential pool in Palm Springs. They no longer allow a pool of that size. It's huge with an old mosaic tile design. Massive outdoor kitchen. The dog house was big with it's own air conditioner. The master suite was beyond huge. The bathroom was palatial with it's own fireplace taller than me and massive beam ceilings with the heaviest looking marble tub in the center I lovingly called the coffin. It also very uncomfortable to lay in it. The toilet and bidet are in a separate room the size of small bedroom. The family room was massive all wood paneling high ceilings and wet bar that spanned the width of the room. Lot's and lots of french doors. Hated cleaning them. Two separate guest houses. One of them had a god awful ugly mosaic tiled bathroom. The entire bathroom was covered. Walking in there made one feel dizzy. The varying colors and designs was insane. The house, in my opinion, wasn't the prettiest. just old. Hated the aqua faded outdoor tile. Huge fountain outside in the back with a Sculptor. The main house kitchen had been remodeled and was huge. multiple ovens, burners, huge fridge, etc. Both Laundry areas at either end of the house were so tiny with no counters to fold clothes. LOL. I remember those days. Took way to many hours to clean. When they started renting it out for events for $1,000 a night after she died we had to hire 3 others to help clean it. People can be messy, including rich people.

I actually knew Delores Hope. In the 1980's I worked at a private club in Omaha, Nebraska. The board of directors of Mutual of Omaha met at my club for their board dinners. Delores was on the board as was Colonel Jimmy Doolittle. I got to know her quite well. She told amazing stories about her and Bob's life in Hollywood. I was quite sad when I found out she died. Amazing memories.

When the Japanese were rounded up in Los Angeles at the start of WW 2, their homes and businesses were confiscated and sold at auctions. Bob Hope was a Major buyer of these properties at that time. Another Large land owner in LA was Leo Carrilo who played Pancho on the Cisco Kid. His family owned huge parcels thru an old Spanish Land Grant. Of the 3 or 4 guys who make these kinds of videos, I think your work is the Best. Thanks Jordan

It's so nice you got to meet with Steve! He is absolutely one of the nicest people on KZfaq. I love his chanel, and admire his respect for those no longer with us. As always, another enjoyable video. You are always interesting and give so much great information. Palm Springs is such a beautiful city with all the mid-century modern homes. How lucky those are who get to live in one. Thanks for sharing!

We can always count on you to throw in great movie quotes. One of my favorite lines of all time, "This is the kind of place I'm going to get when I move out of my parents house" Had to pause the video so I could finish laughing.

Palm Springs has some great architecture. I was only there once a very long time ago when I was quite young but my parents used to go often we're quite a few years. Thank you and Steve for a wonderful trip through Palm Springs. It was very enjoyable.

Great vlog! Lovely homes. I was in Palm Springs several years ago on a business trip. I drove from San Diego Airport through the mountains , totally jet lagged but what a trip. I descended into Palm Springs, totally lost. A guy at the lodge for a gated community was very kind and gave me directions (no gps) to the hotel (one where Ozzy Osbourned like to stay). Palm Springs looked very clean - classic.

I always loved PS, and of course the celebrity homes. My first visit was in 1976 and I visited last time in 2003. Liked the home of DINO, ELVIS, D. Janssen and Joseph Cotten. Hope, I can book another vacation soon to follow up on my memories over the last 35 years. BTW: I am from Germany and became an American citizen in 2003.
