Sooner or later every comic has to deal with some opinionated audience member. Generally these hecklers are awful because they mess up timing and pacing for the comic, and tend to throw the entire show off balance, therefore ruining the show for all other paying customers.
SOMETIMES though, hecklers add a great new element to live comedy. Given that the person they're ripping on makes fun of shit for a living, there's always a good chance that heckler will get thoroughly owned.
With that, here are great instances in which hecklers were properly put in their place.

Best part of The Philadelphia Incident is Burr insulting an entire city for having only one single bridge. That is how you know you're so unimportant that terrorists will never bomb you But seriously, Bill Burr is an absolute legend. By the end of his tirade, he won over most of the crowd and allegedly even received a standing ovation

What made Burr's rant legendary isn't just the fact that he took on a crowd of 10,000+ hecklers and actually got them to start laughing at the increasingly ridiculous insults, capping it off with a standing O. That was all _improvised._ He made up that whole rant on the spot. It wasn't the best improv comedy performance I've heard, but the good performances were in front of friendly audiences. Burr's the only one to pull it off to a completely hostile room and make them laugh. That is balls and talent in one neat package. There are things in life you should never do. Representing yourself in court or taking the witness stand in your own defense. Talking to the police when you don't have to or when you don't have an attorney. Heckling a comedian who is not only trained to deliver fast comeback insults, but also to improvise like Winton Marsalis. All are examples of an amateur going up against a professional and thinking they can win. Statistics are not on their side.

That clip is from th O&A Virus comedy tours, i think it was back in late 90 early 00. The real one is his hole set and he continues to tear these fuckers up but theres no video for the first part. It comes in around minute 12 or 11.

Bill Burr destroying Philadelphia is the funniest thing I've ever seen. They were all booing everybody so when he came out and they started to boo he went straight at them. It was brilliant, it wasn't showed but he went on about how they've got a Rocky statue and not a Joe Lewis statue (who's a real boxer) and how he hoped McNabb broke his ankle on the first snap of the season.. much more but by the end of his set, they were giving him a standing applause

I think he meant it at first, but then he realized he wouldn't get paid if he let the hecklers win, so he committed to ranting for the rest of the show. Whether he won them over or not, he was going to get paid and not let them win. Once he turned the crowd, he did start to enjoy it, but not at first.

I usually prefer very clever, flip-their-own-bullshit-on-them type of heckle defenses, but there's something really satisfying about listening to Burr throw an endless stream of vulgarity and hatred into that crowd. Sometimes they just don't deserve the witty rebuttles.

Kamal Hussain That Philly show was put on by O&A and they invited comedians they regularly had on the show, Because of this one they stopped doing it because the fans were bigger assholes than the comedians.

I was at tha show in philly and Burr ended up getting a standing ovation. He had us rolling by the end of his set. I’m not from philly, was there for the Opie and Anthony Virus tour and Burr was definitely the highlight.
