Today we're taking the newest Famous Flyer, the Cessna 207 by Carenado up for a short flight around St Barths.
The 207 always looked interesting to me, it reminds me of the old Top Gear stretch limo challenge. But from seeing the preview pictures and watching the trailer, I couldn't resist buying it.
And I'm glad that I did. The visual model and textures are up to the usual Carenado standard and are as close to perfect as you can get. The sounds are great, the engine sounds nice and throaty. In the cockpit everything apart from the circuit brakers works. And the flight model feels convincing, it feels very stable and a bit heavier than the smaller Cessnas.
It will probably not be an airplane I fly all the time, but it'll be great for exploring short and challenging airfields from time to time.
For this video we're going for a quick lap around the nice freeware enhanced Saint-Barthélemy scenery. As this is one of very few videos without aerobatics on my channel, I hope the video didn't turn out boring! Please feel free to let me know. Criticisms and tips on how to improve the videos are always welcome.
(Sorry about the first landing, it started veering to the right and I overreacted with the rudder and brake)

I'm surprised how good the engine sounds are. Carenado hasn't really excelled in this area before. Given its low price and three variants I'm now quite tempted to buy it, despite absolutely not needing it. 🙂

I know what you mean about not needing it 😅 But for the price you really can't go wrong and the quality of the 207 is top notch. Besides the great visual model and sounds the flight model feels very convincing/fitting too.

True. However I would prefer a C206. The C207 is by now obsolete and almost impossible to find on airports while the C206 fly even today in Alaska, NZ, Australia and Africa, eventually with bigger tires. Much more versatile then the C207.

@@antonioiozzi291 I wouldn't be surprised if we see a 206 someday, but I'm glad they choose the 207. It's a more unusual aircraft in my opinion. And yes, they are rare, but you see them from time to time. I think the FF & LL series are great for unusual aircraft that most developers wouldn't release on there own, as there is a limited market for them. That way we get rare, high quality aircraft at a low price.

I always watch your videos. They're never boring. I learn a lot of things from your riding (speeds, attitudes, timing, etc.). I would like to learn very well how to proceed with the propeller, (blue lever). Could you point me to someone on KZfaq to explain how and when it should be used? Thank you very much for your work.

Another one for the books! It looks and sounds great. I'm noticing a bit of that "floatininess" that a lot of the default and Carenado planes seem to have on landing, but hopefully it isn't too bad. I've been really hoping for a utility Cessna like this for a bit (made some good memories with Carenado's 185F back in FSX/P3D back in the day).
@vintagesimulations
@vintagesimulations 7 ай бұрын
It's a wonderful machine =) The floatiness isn't too bad. I think here it's the case, that the hill at St Barths and my less than perfect approach didn't help. At more conventional airports I didn't have an issue to bring it down. I hope Carenado brings the 185 to MSFS too. I always liked Cessna taildraggers.

Strobe isn't used for engine starting. Only Nav and Beacon. Strobe is only used when entering a runway.
@vintagesimulations
@vintagesimulations 7 ай бұрын
You're right, that is usually the case. But at my local airfield we normally use them both for startup and taxiing too, to get easier spotted by other taxiing aircraft and people on the ground.

@@major3336 if I remember correctly, if you don't have a beacon you need to turn on your strobes for ground operations, right?
@BHPilot82
@BHPilot82 6 ай бұрын
In the US, beacon needs to be on before starting engine(s). If no beacon, then strobes. The issue with strobes is at night (on the ground) and in very low visibility, fog/cloud as it can cause disorientation.

Sorry for the very late response =( I'm glad you like it! It is simulated, but there is only a very minimal drop of 20-30 rpm. I'm not sure how accurate that is to the 207, but that seems quite small to me.

Thanks for the great video! I am lured towards purchasing this one, but wonder if it has the same issue as other Carenado planes, like the M20 Mooney or the C-170, that crash if you open the side window when in flight? Being a real world pilot, I happen to know that isn't very realistic behavior.
@vintagesimulations
@vintagesimulations 7 ай бұрын
I’m glad you enjoyed it, thank you =) As a fellow real world open window “survivor” that was also one of my concerns. With the 207 they seem to have found a bit better solution. If you start to takeoff the windows will close by themselves. I haven’t tried opening them in the air after that, I’m not sure if it’ll result in a crash or if they just won’t open. But overall, it’s a very nicely done and enjoyable machine.

@@vintagesimulations , thanks for the reply! I just purchased this plane and tried it out and it is really a great value. Pertaining to the windows opening in flight, I find that after a certain airspeed they will close as you said. Opening them in flight is not possible, so no crash there, however, if opening doors in flight you get an immediate crash. Thought somebody might be wondering like I was. Thanks again.

I think your bad landing was simply because your viewpoint is positioned too low. You know that you can just press a key to raise your view so you can see a little more over the glareshield, right?
@vintagesimulations
@vintagesimulations 7 ай бұрын
Yes, I'm aware of moveable viewpoints. But the viewpoint in the 207 can only be shifted very little, in fact on my second approach I had it at maximum height and there is very little difference. Both approaches should have been steeper, or I should have slipped it in for better visibility. But I think the viewpoint was only partly responsible for the first landing being bad. I let it get away to the right after touchdown and then overcorrected with rudder and brakes. (I edited my answer after rewatching the landings...the lower viewpoint certainly didn't help 😅)

@vintagesimulations

Hi, with the showcase camera. You can disable the follow mode, enable the lock mode and then move the camera to a position of your liking. For the videos themselves I first record the flight while I'm in the cockpit with the freeware Flight Recorder (available on flightsim.to) simultaneously to the video recording and when I'm finished with the flight, I set up the Showcase camera for ground shots and start the replay.
