I saw a picture of this place in a book when I was a kid and I just flipped. I thought it was the coolest building I had ever seen. I'm still fascinated with it today. When I see it, I hear either Stravinsky's "Petrouchka" or Prokofiev's "Troika" playing inside my head. Sometimes Borodin's polevetzian dance number 2, known to American ears as "Stranger in Paradise"

6 years? That's quite quick indeed O,o. Especially if you think about buildings like the Sagrada Familia in Spain, which was started in 1882 and is still not finished. I love the roofs of the towers though. They look like candy! :D There is something similar in the south of Germany, but they are made from all copper. This is interesting. The inside is not as overloaded with gold as many European catholic cathedrals are, but rather quite colorful. I like it! I'm surprised Vera touched the painted wall. I guess they aren't as pedantic about those things in Russia? That ice cream sure looks nice. As a bonus, it won't melt in your hand since it's cold outside! :D

I like the view of those towers' roofs too & agree they look like candy. However though, I read in wikipedia that when they were first build, the 9 churches that form the cathedral were first not connected, made of white stone and their roofs were covered with gold. I.e. more expensive but not as much clearly visible patterns. Any one know some more about this?

Dazzling! I would disagree that it's "Russian architecture", I rather see it as one of the most eclectic ecclesiastical structures EVER! I mean, those towers, the colors, the break with a Byzantine tradition, it's truly unique! Also, a question for Russian brothers and sisters - here, in Serbia, we say that you guys eat ice cream in the winter and drink hot tea in the summer. so, is it true? Sposibo bolyshoy!

This is part of my Ancient family history. It was my Bhagwan Sri RamdevPir Chitroda family dynasty and direct lineage that paid for St Basil’s Church to be built. In Gujrat India it is celebrated by The Bandani Turbin. This is exclusive to only Indian Hindu Gujarati people it is not Rajasthani as all fabric fashions are exclusively made in India Hindu Gujarati people that have been selling this memory for over a thousand years now. The Bandhani is my official symbolism of sainthood and Imperialism it is dedicated to my self and celebrated by millions of Hindu people. It’s truly beautiful and I will acknowledge my Russian Hindu Christian path and celebrate the memory of your KGB saint Alexander Litvinenko. Muswell Hill was a memorable place for me and my family even today whilst I went to school meters away from where he lived. My mother enjoys feeding the Children of Muswell Hill at school it’s a truly amazing recollection of ancient history to later be summarised up in a Book of StBasil Red Square Church. 🙏🏽@🕉🤘🏽🔺🟢🟨🔷

In six years? I thought it was continuously added on to for many years or do you mean just the st. basil section I know they named each section or each cathedral something different. They call the whole structure st. basil cathedral because that’s what it’s become most well known for after Ivan place him there, so I think that’s why I’m confused. I’ll most definitely visit here if I ever go to Moscow, or if we’re even aloud to in the future with all this pandemic stuff.

St Basil's cathedral is very beautiful and relatively small with 8 separate churches inside. The attendants allow you to roam about inside without any supervision and they don't mind you touching the paintings on the walls. Each church is very small consisting and a pair of saloon type doors behind which will be an altar etc. If you are going to Red Square then you must visit St Basil's if you can. Unfortunately a visit cannot be guaranteed while in Moscow because being a very religious country there are a lot of religious days and you may not be able to visit it. A good presentation but the music at the start was annoying.

False . St Basil cathedral was built by Tsar Ivan IV as a Russian Orthodox Church between 1551-1560. The oldest mosque in the entire Russia is the Marcani Mosque built only between 1766-1770 & it doesn’t even have a dome. Most Russian Orthodox Church have a characteristic onion shape dome.
