Impact injuries TEND to recover better than "overuse" injuries, largely because overuse injuries have genetic connotations or come from repetitive movement habits that the athlete's body is going to continue to repeat after coming back which causes continued problems.

I will say he is more reserved with some of his tackles like his running slide tackles but he makes up for it with his smart offside traps and defensive timing

I used to call Haaland the "anti-VanDijk", in terms of that he does what VVD does in being too strong and too quick, making opponents look like children, so I was fascinated when he was matched up against him. I think Haaland scored once when he attacked his defensive partner for Holland on the other side, not exactly VVD's fault, and overall VVD made Haaland look mediocre in terms of strength and pace. He remains the king of physicality in football.

Nah. He is more of a Pique and Puyol tbh. He dont really fight much. He just know when to tackle clean at the right time. Ifbu ask me,he already at Puyol's level.

Tbf, Dzeko is way past his prime and has almost no acceleration left. The Martinez one was better imo. Martinez didn't want to 1v1 Van Dijk at all because he knew he had no chance!

You switched from a stirker to defender because you probably were not that good as a striker. No top level natural striker purposely switches to defence because he wants to.

@@qnonbs or you just find it way more fun to control the space and take the ball instead of having to jostle it around in the hopes of not losing it. I basically was the fastest person on the field as a kid, but opted to become a defender as I feel way more at home at the back. Our defence was complete garbage (I was the goalie for a while as I was the tallest on the team. A bad defence is so infuriating) so I felt the need to give the new goalie a better time by demanding a defender role. Ive come to love it more than scoring goals. There is just some magic that you dont get as an attacker.

I admire his clean interception and strength. Without tackle, he still can win the ball easily by using position, strength and speed. That's why he is far better than other centre defenders.

People talk about ramos being better... it's ridiculous, I've never seen a more dominant, composed defender. Ofc van dijk has only become prominent in recent seasons, but at no stage of ramos' career has he ever defended as well as van dijk. It's pretty much impossible to defend any better!

the Ramos shout is particularly nuts. at least compare him to the actual greats of defending and not a player who for a long time was considered worse than variously Cannavaro, Puyol, Pique, T.Silva etc. until he scored a few clutch goals

Any young defenders coming up should study and learn the art of defending. I truly agree in terms of ability, decision making , tackling, pace, strength, he's the best of all time (not trophies won). He's always calm and composed even 1Vs1. Never really thought defending could be such a joy to watch. Plus point, he can whip the ball accurately, so often you'll see long range passing accurately to forward.

i LOVE seeing the seethe from rival fans and attempts to play down this guy's talent. I would do the exact same in their position. my arsenal supporting friend once called me after a game at anfield to complain about him being a freak and a cheat code. we have never seen a CB like this, not even Maldini & Nesta (who still deserve the utmost respect).

The only thing that makes him the best in the world in my opinion is that he rarely ever goes on the ground. He prefers to stay on his feet. And still wins the ball somehow. Definitely deserved that ballon dor in 2019. Bro went up against some of the best strikers in the world and still beat them all.
