I agree Earl two different styles if FAMU was really aggressive Southern would probably have a problem FAMU is kind of passive-aggressive seems to me in there song selection.

@@nathanielcapernicus3409 Their band just has a different culture. SU has perfected the whole notion of battling other bands with sheer power. FAMU, like a few other bands, aren't as focused on stuff like that. PV is similar to FAMU in that area, thanks to FAMU alumni who took over PV in the late 70s and made them what they are today. Their old BD Prof. Edwards was all about putting on a good show and having a band full of musicians who played like musicians. It wasn't always about battling another band. PV still has that mindset today under Zachery (who went to SU ironically before going to Norfolk State and Indiana University). Outsiders like to group all HBCU bands together and say that they're all the same just "play loud with bad tone", but that's just simply not the case. Bands like FAMU, PV and several others are proof of that.

Hey CoBobby I agree 100, being from New Orleans I know what you mean and SU is no slouch symphonically; they can switch to that mode if need be.

Rebecca Bowles not too fast...SU show wasn’t great. SU has become nothing more than just a stands band. Their shows lack energy and drive. We all thought the band was going to take off when Haynes became director because he was a great arranger. But the band not only lost him specifically working on some of their arrangements, but his shows were lack luster compared to when Jackson was the director. This new director rarely does a second line, and there’s nothing exciting about his shows. And let’s not talk about the look of his Dolls.
