In this special Fan Friday event, Jesse and Dodger team up on for a Doki Doki Literature Club Let's Play, the new dating sim game everyone is talking about. You definitely wanted us to play it this week, and we're not sure why. We hear the gameplay gets very, VERY strange, so this is definitely a let's play to keep an eye on!

You asked for it, we delivered. Dodger and I had NO IDEA what to expect from Doki Doki Literature Club, but boy did we have a blast even just with this love sim stuff. Even though everyone says this gameplay is going to get CRAZY, so far on our playthrough we've got a pretty pure lets play on our hands. Nothing crazy, yet. There are waifus, poetry, A+ Dodger voices...this game really does have it all. We've still got two more episodes of this Doki Doki Literature Club walkthrough to go and boy are we not ready for what's coming up...will you be? Stay tuned for our playthrough.
Doki Doki Literature Club is a free visual novel that is also a psychological horror visual developed by Team Salvato, played on PC. It is free to play via Steam, so check it out if you want to try it for yourself! You join four cute girls in their Literature Club at school, only to discover...well, you'll have to see for yourself. A game that already has a cult following, Doki Doki Literature Club is an experience unlike any other, under the guise of a standard dating sim. @david54100 - OMG, you're right! And as I said in a comment above, Natsuki is Su from My Hero Academia. Also, her name is Ruby with a 'u'. The *team* is RWBY with a 'w' (because it stands for "Ruby, Weiss, Blake, Yang").

Dodger has been in a bunch of different stuff. She's done songs and musical shorts, roleplaying shows, fully voiced video-game playthroughs, comedy bits, at least one comedic voice in a video game (Witcher 3), news shows... She's had training in acting during her higher education if I recall correctly.

Not necessarily. Hikikomori tend to be NEET given the circumstances of withdrawing from society, but that doesn't mean all cases are the same. You could pursue education and employment from a home setting with minimal social interaction. But that may break Hikikomori by definition.

Three years ago I had no fucking clue what adventure I was about to go on... This video introduced me to DDLC and I was initially poking fun at it. Now it's one of the most influential things in my life. If it wasn't for Jesse and Dodger's commentary I probably would've skipped this cute-sy looking anime game. 20 minutes in, and I am absolutely terrified. This shit looks like a standard harem/dating sim, and everyone is saying its weird and creepy... At least that spoopy mansion one you played the other day went straight in, this is one seems to be actively trying to lull you into a false sense of normalcy. One part of this game I wish was focused on more was the words in the poems. It’s pretty simple: Sayori likes romantic, melancholy, or dramatic things, Natsuki likes, cute, energetic words, and Yuri likes longer words that are more engaging, as well as anything with horror. And while that makes it simple gameplay wise, it unfortunately doesn’t capitalize on storytelling and foreshadowing opportunities. For instance, in the game, if you pick the word “suicide”, you’ll get Yuri. But what if it was Sayori instead? That would throw the player for a loop, wondering why on Earth Sayori of all people would jump for “suicide”. Yuri would have “marriage” or “scars”, and Natsuki would have “hurt”, “family”, “fear”, and “alone”. It would hint players into what was wrong without actually telling them directly, at least until it’s revealed like normally.

SPOILER Yuri's poem about the raccoon is about Yuri's obsession with cutting herself. The knife is a knife, the bread represents her skin, and the raccoon represents her mind. Her taking about how she knows that if she does it it'll only escalate, how she's become comfortable with the raccoon, and how the raccoon follows her everywhere. It all represents her cutting herself, how she accepts cutting herself as part of her life style, and how she cuts herself in more places then just her home, like at school. And as the raccoon gets excited for bread, it's Yuri getting excited about cutting herself. And the part at the end saying that she feeds herself again, it shows that the raccoon is just her or representing her, instead of a separate entity. Which is pretty fucking morbid but smart in a way.

lol god damnit, their voices are so awesome. I wish there were dialogue mods that we can install into these visual novels, because if Dodger and Jesse were voicing them, I'm sure I'd enjoy most of them.
