Golden Sun is still my all time favorite game series of all time. I remember saving up my birthday money and having my mom drive me to Toys R Us to buy a copy in 2002

The mind reading was one of my favorite features of the Golden Sun games. Each little town felt like more lively with the extra dialogue Also, the music is good. Elemental Stars, Forest's Requiem, and Venus Lighthouse are some of my favorites. Page one is my ringtone 😁

It's crazy to me how it seems like still to this day no other RPG has really nailed the Golden Sun thing of "the same abilities you use in battle are also used casually exploring & to solve puzzles." It seems like such an obvious slam-dunk idea, it instantly makes the game world & story feel more believable and immersive.

I loved Golden sun I played the first and second one. The giant attack moves were my favorite part of battles back then I always though it was so cool. I also enjoyed exploring and looking for all the hidden stuff it's been so many years I wish I could play it again. I haven't played it since release.

Dude, a golden sun breath of the wild style remake would be amazing! Also I feel like you forgot to mention how amazing the music was for golden sun, i havent played it since age 13 but I can still remember and hum every single one of the melodies from golden sun. If they did do a golden sun breath of the wild type remake I really hope the music would be as amazing as the original game

I never played Golden Sun but I heard it's one of the best RPGs on the GBA era once I buy myself a GBA SP again I intend to buy it and try it out I've been wanting to play more old JRPGs.

Golden Sun for me on the GBA was the same for FFVII for me on the Playstation. You cared about the characters and villains, you appreciated the world, it was consistent, the music was amazing, the concept easy, and there was tension for you to want to finish. I am not 32 and don't game as much if at all but if Golden Sun were to return as a next-gen console, I would pick it up again.

I don't know what's causing the flood of Golden Sun videos and retrospectives recently (seem some suggestions it's youtubers trying to get ahead of the leaked VC switch release), but glad to see the constant flow. It really is one of (if not the) best games ever created.

Honestly, I'd argue that Breath of the Wild already shows an amazing template for a Golden Sun remake or continuation. It would allow Nintendo to really explore the type of world that Breath of the Wild introduced by having a high fantasy game hosted in it. The mechanics already align perfectly with Golden Sun, especially for puzzles. Rather than fighting enemies in real time, they're still wandering the world area, but run into you to start a turn based encounter that lets them show off the art style

I absolutely LOVE Golden Sun. I spent a couple hundred hours in the first game just exploring and battling and enjoying my time in the world. When I finally started The Lost Age (which I also didn’t immediately realize was a sequel), my backup party was severely OP and destroyed any battle they were involved in. Quick side note: according to an interview, Golden Sun actually never was intended to be on the N64. That was a different game that was ultimately scrapped before starting on Golden Sun on GBA

A well put together video, I like seeing someone else as passionate about this series as I am. I also have some thoughts on the Metroid being done by Mercury steam because it seemed like Konami thought it was a good idea to team up with Mercury steam and launch the Lords of shadows series and completely sideline Iga, and it tanked... bad, at least in my eyes, but then they were handed Metroid, and when Dread came out, I thought it was an absolutely amazing game, I could not believe that the games were made by the same studio. My friend (who is also a Golden sun and a Metroid fan) kept putting playing it off for about a year, but when when he did buy it, he was like "I don't know why I didn't buy this sooner."

Golden Sun felt like an adventure. It was magical, beautiful visuals and superb Soundtrack. It was my first true JRPG and the first two games are still my all time favorites. It's a shame Camelot/Nintendo ignoring these titles. I love Xenoblade Chronicles- but Golden Sun is this one little step beyond it.

My favorite thing to improove on thw Golden Sun games would be replacing random encouters with visable monsters on the overworld that would b e so lovely.

when i was a kid i saw this game in a game magazine, and i said to myself, im gona buy this if i see it at the store, what i didnt know was there was a sequel, and i accidently bought the sequel without playing the first. But after playing it abit, i got stuck in the werewolf town and didnt touch the game for years, but when i came back to it, i loved the game. and replayed TLA atleast 8 times just to get more power breads and power up items to buff my characters, or replayed it to get all the summons/djinn.

Have never been a non-pokemon rpg fan but this series does look interesting and it would make so much sense for them to remake them now. The iron is definitely red hot for jrpg revivals right now and golden sun fans seem to be a rare non-toxic fanbase so they deserve something good lol. The real question is will the remake be a switch pro exclusive?

I love the Golen Sun franchise all 3 games although the first 2 were my favorite I first found out about this franchise when I had a friend who kept telling me about so I asked if I could borrow one and he let me borrow Golden Sun 2 because he had a lot of locations unlocked already. I completed one dungeons he hadn't yet and found him a couple of djinn which he thanked me for he also thanked me for levelling up his characters. I then borrowed Golden Sun 1 after he had beaten it so I started a new file and then played the game till the end and fell in love with it too. I asked him if he would sell the games to me and he did for 5 dollars a piece. Beside Sonic advance 3 those 2 were my most played game boy advance games and number three is one of my most played DS games. I remember when I found Dark Dawn was coming out I was so excited. I remember playing through that game and the excitement I felt and sense of accomplishment I felt when I beat it for the first time. I would love for this franchise to come back I really would. I would love a remake of the first two a remake of the third one would be nice too and then give me a new one.

Golden Sun is a masterclass in world building and character design. Don’t get me wrong, the mechanics are great and fun, but what keeps me coming back is the world and the people in it.

One year later, but: As you said, the market is slowly shedding the 2010's fabricated distaste for turn/strategy based RPGs. That this year they announced a HD remaster for another cult classic Nintendo RPG is BIG. Baten Kaitos Remaster doing well would mean that Nintendo would have Camelot revisit Golden Sun since they are more or less from the same era. In fact, Golden Sun being revisited would be massive not just for fans, but for Camelot themselves, who have been really wanting another go at the RPG genre after 20 years doing nothing but Mario Sports games.

I heavily agree with all if not most of your points and I would like to just add one more thing. The music, there has been so many remakes or renditions of Golden sun music and I hope Nintendo does a good job remastering or using a proper orchestra to remaster the music of the series. It could even be a selling point for those who are on the fence about playing the series if they do choose to remake/master it.

Zelda BOTW is Golden Sun. Powers, Towers, Puzzles, the gameplay is strikingly similar in those respects.

Golden sun was fantastic. Gameboy needed a good rpg, and this was their answer. Reminiscent of final fantasy but not a carbon copy. The gameplay mechanics, story, etc. are excellent and it’s really a game I’ve been dying to get back into my collection (along with the 2nd entry in the franchise). For anyone who loves retro rpgs and access to a PC, I’d also recommend tibia. It’s one of the original, and one of the best online RPGs around. With its fast paced gameplay it has been diablo since before diablo was even conceived. It’s been eating my weekends for decades now, and Im sharing it with you all watching this golden sun video right now 😁

I have thought literally everything you mentioned, it’s scary! Dream game is golden sun in 3D with similar art to dq11 with botw puzzle design. But I’d also love HD2D remake! I’ve also thought how Nintendo lacks a flagship turn based series and how golden sun would be perfect to fill that role. I think it would do so well in todays age, I have a good feeling it’s going to come back soon

Both Golden Sun games and FF Tactics were absolute killer RPGs and far exceeded anything else on the GBA. That Mario Golf game Camelot made was absolutely insane, too. I'd love an rpg golf remake like that.

While Octopath Traveler is my spiritual successor to this masterpiece, it will always be a hair short. They have the same gimmicks like mind reading is to inquiries. Both of them have phenomenal OSTs and story twists. What sets GS just out of reach (for me) is the intricate class system. Octopath might have 12 classes to choose from, but there will always be a BIS class and the rest aren't even close. I was maybe 120hrs into my save when I decided to play around with Djinn placements just to learn that Paladin, Ronin, Fire Monk and some other random classes were possible. My neurons literally started firing full blast.

Damn I got my Golden Sun in a very similar way... I wanted a DBZ game that was supposed to come out but wasn't in the shop. So I looked around, a bit disappointed and saw this box art and it somehow spoke to me. I really liked it despite knowing nothing about it. I bought it instead of DBZ and that was one of the luckiest cases of spontaneous purchases I ever did! Also probably my first jrpg. So many found memories of learning about me dumb 10/11 year old boy figuring out the mechanics and learning to play the game better. 😄

Late, but I would love to see a new GS game with the art style of Sea of Stars, which already felt like a spiritual successor. But with the release of the first two GS games on switch online I have to wonder if we will get a remake at all

Honesty it's criminal that we never Got any characters from Golden Sun added to the Smash roster but we got so many Fire Emblem characters. They could have given us Isaac or given us one where you have all 4 characters from the first game and you can switch between them during the game play, a bit like the Pokemon trainer character, each one has different movesets based on there element. Could have been so good, and then all all come together for the final smash to summon there jinn for a massive attack

I've always considered Golden Sun a fusion of: Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy, Pokemon, and Avatar the Last Airbender. All of those are absolute bangers, so it makes sense that Golden Sun is one of the best IPs of all time.

The Graphics were very beautiful in that Gameboy advance era and I think it would be exceptionally well if the Remakers of Link’s Awakening remastered the GBA titles for the DS version and the sequel that never made it should be done by a Fire Emblem team…. Group effort from Nintendo

Thanks for this. I love Golden Sun and I've been one of those hanging my coat on the idea that a Golden Sun for the Switch HAS to be coming. I was obsessing over wanting Isaac in Smash and reading up on the copyrights and everything. 3 years of radio silence from Camelot only to get a mediocre Golf game is disappointing, if you consider how long an HD re-imagining of Golden Sun 1 and 2 into a single game for the Switch might take, then we're almost talking 4 to 5 years of more waiting. So unless a third party company is picking up the IP to do a simpler graphical update on the games, I'm not hopeful we'll even see anything new soon. The only thing I can see happening is if this GB/GBA on NSO rumour is true, getting both GBA games on the NSO service to emulate. Which is...fine I guess. It's technically playable on the Switch and I'll defiintely play it. I can't help but want a bit more. It's a Nintendo RPG but all we seem to get are Square Enix yearly releases and Xenoblade. Either way, I hope I'm surprised.

There's no "N64 beta footage", because there was no such thing. I can't link to any of the sources since links probably get auto-removed, but this is a very common piece of inaccurate information. So, I'll just paste quotes from interviews (one of them from 2001) instead and hope anyone interested can find the full interviews that way: "I understand Golden Sun was originally being made for the N64. - Hiroyuki: No, not exactly. We were never developing Golden Sun for the N64. But we were making progress on an RPG for the N64." ... "So none of that N64 RPG prototyping is reflected in Golden Sun, then? - Hiroyuki: Exactly, none at all." "How come we never saw a Golden Sun console game...? - Golden Sun, when we decided to make that, that was right at the time when the Game Boy was really gaining speed and really taking over the handheld area completely. So it was kind of always a Game Boy game. ... We actually did make a game design document for a Nintendo 64 Golden Sun. We had planned for the 64 game, but if Nintendo had delayed the release of the GameCube until a year later, we probably would have made a Golden Sun 64."

If they make a new GS, they need to keep the same style as the GBA. There was something so charming about the art work that Dark Dawn just didn't capture.

I would love for them to rerelease Broken Seal (the 1st game) and Lost Age with updated graphics, and rerelease with some modifications (such as getting rid of the points of no return or at least make them temporary), and then finally release the 4th game.

The biggest reason I didn't buy Dark Dawn is actually because they switched to the 3d mode. The graphics from the first and second ones looked so much better; 3d looks better in certain specific places, but tends to look really, really bad in others, and the difference can be really jarring. Add to that the plot seemed really uninspired. The first one had such a strong plot, while this one just seemed...bland by comparison? The Lighthouses and Rocks were so epic by comparison, the plot of this one was just odd and out of left field, not really taking advantage of the consequences of the first game. We have a world that's expanding again, with new ancient civilizations reappearing out of nothingness! We have characters that originated from the moon! That's more than enough without the 'psynergy vortex' business. I'd have LOVED to have a story where you start with the run of the entire starter continent, and then expand out to mysterious new continents that appeared from nowhere, and finally explore the moon or something. What we got felt more like filler, and while it wasn't terrible, it was disappointing.

Wrong Title!!! The real Question: Why is Golden Sun still Good?

I like how 2 starts with the secondary party as a diverging storyline, which is something I have to this day never seen in any other RPG. You end up wondering where the original party is or what they're up to while your current party learns about what's happening behind the scenes. I miss these games, but they're definitely games of their time. The pessimist in me says that they can't recreate the magic of the original releases.

12:21 okay....but who even wants that in 3D ? i dont want that. just a better resolution with higher character models, but the same art style. and a new story. just gimme an alternate universe with different characters, the same basic idea of the world but i mean you can easily just draw an entirely new map. while the original 2 games felt really well difficulty wise...the 3DS game was way too easy iirc. felt like a cake in the park. but i havent finished it bc at the time the 3DS emulation sucked ass. but otherwise just let me dive into a new reimagined golden sun world.
