The Fania All Stars’ had their first official performance in 1968 at the Red Garter in the Village. But it wasn’t until three years later that the group got hot at the Cheetah in New York. That night at the Cheetah was a salsa-induced delirium marking the lives of many who were present on that historic occasion. “Live at the Cheetah” is Part One of the musical volumes that will give you the chance to experience an unforgettable moment in time. Listening to this album, you will understand the music scene during an era that formed the roots of all subsequent movements that have sprouted from it and that continue flowering today in our vast musical forest. When I performed at the Cheetah(in the summer of 1969 about fifty years ago),the venue was still R&B. We were the only Salsa Band there. We were booked there for a week. And we played upstairs in a lounge called the "Otis Redding Room". The stage was very high up like climbing up to a second floor, and we were performing behind a screen. The audience could see us, but we couldn't see the audience! We did get a chance to perform on the main stage once.

Diez veces fui al cine a ver la película de Jerry Masuchi, "Nuestra cosa Latina" y ahora que la descargué de KZfaq la veo cada año y estos dos álbumes del concierto en el Cheetah son mi tesoro más preciado. Crecí escuchando salsa en mi casa donde todos en la familia éramos salseros. No habrá NADA NUNCA MÁS, que logre superar a la orquesta Fania.

No es 'Guaguanco' estimado. El "Guaguanco" es otra cosa. Es mas, tanto Masucci como Pacheco no sabian como ponerle a esta nueva musica ya que aun no se llamaba "Salsa"

Todavía no estaba integrado a Fania All-Star, él era cantante de la orquesta de Eddie Palmieri todavía. Pero participaba como corista en algunas grabaciones para Fania Records a través del sello Vaya, Por Ejemplo en el mismo 1971 participó en los coros de los Álbumes: Brujería - Mark Dimond, Cheo - Cheo Feliciano......... Pero él como tal todavía no pertenecía a la orquesta él entró en 1973 en el concierto del Yankee Stadium.
