Plus, in my opinion, blue eyes are much prettier than green eyes. Also, it didn't really alter the original character's appearance significantly because apart from the eyes, he looks exactly as the book described him.

@@Cupcakesandcookiesfordayliterally everyone, since every second line about Harry from characters who knew his parents is that he inherited his mother's eyes. However, in the films, when Lily is shown as a child her eyes are nothing like Harry (it doesn't matter if you think of the book or the film version, it's nothing like them). So while I understand that they couldn't make Daniel's eyes green, they should have shown his mother with blue eyes so the sentence "You have your mother's eyes" would make sense.

I'm a book fan for some of book related movies like Harry potter and LOTR. I think Daniel is perfect Harry potter even with blue eyes. He portrayed Harry's innocence, goodnes and bravery well. You can't get everything right according to a written image from a book. Only closer look.

Daniel was perfect for the role which he played with utmost perfection even performing his own stunts. As for the green eyes he tried green contact lenses which he was allergic to and caused him a lot of pain. The first scene shot was the leaving from hogwarts and saying goodbye from hagrid if you look closely you will see that his eyes are red this is from the contact lenses that they decided were no good for him.

They made Daniel wear contacts for the green eyes but it caused pain so they stopped doing it in the middle of production same with Emma Watson. They put something in her teth to make a gap but she couldn't say her lines properly so they stopped

Danaerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones has purple eyes in the the ASOIAF books, but they werent in the show for a similar reason: Emilia Clarke said the contacts were very uncomfortable. As someone with a contact allergy myself, i dont see anything wrong with them trying to keep the actors comfortable. Its not fun to have itchy, puffy, even painful eyes because of contact lenses. I can only wear dailies myself.

Since I read the books first, i have the perfect image of Harry in my head. Daniel kinda comes close but I'm not going to fault him- he's an actor- I'm not going to fault him nor the casting directors. You can't have an actor have all the traits of an already-written character. Daniel's appearance and mannerisms is about 3/4 of Rowling's original Harry, amd that's good enough for me.

So basically they'd rather he have an allergic reaction to the contact lenses just so Harry had green eyes than just fricking grow up cause its literally just his eye colour anyone would think they completely changed the way his character looked.

Chris Columbus experimented with coloured contacts on Dan, only to find out he was allergic to them. He then went to Rowling and asked if it was an issue. And she said that they would just recast the actor for Lilly potter (during mirror of errised scene) because it was more important for them to be matching eye colour rather then the green eye colour specifically

I'm a fan of this series too. And as a fan, I think that this is absolutely one of the most dumbest thing to get mad about. I mean when Daniel Radcliffe started his Harry Potter journey as a kid he couldn't wear contacts, and rightfully he shouldn't if it affects his eyesight and/or health. Take it however you prefer but the filmmakers did the right thing not making Radcliffe wear the contacts.

I'm a huge book fan and the only thing I wished was that he had messy hair. As the series went on though, I became more annoyed at the writers for cutting out so much stuff that was integral to the plot (starting with when Harry got his Firebolt in the movie vs the book)

It’s so dumb, how can you be mad at a child that is allergic to the contacts, it’s not his fault. I am more angry that the young Lilly has brown eyes, that absolutely doesn’t make any sense. Was she also allergic to contacts? Weren’t they able to find a girl with green eyes (or blue eyes to fit the movie Harry), cause she had a small role anyway?

I've heard comparisons of Harry's eye color to the green of the killing curse. Actually, it was confirmed that part of the decision to choose Daniel was his eyes, because of their light blue. The other possibility had brown eyes. Another reason was because little Daniel, 11-12 years old, wasn't afraid of anything and took risks.

as much as i absolutely adore movie harry, im still upset on how he didn't necessarily portray harry, he lacked sarcasm, the green eyes but thats explainable, and his feelings seeming didnt match too much. daniel radcliffe is still a fantastic author and i don't think i can imagine someone else playing him.

We absolutely devoured every book, and as we had to wait a whole year for the next book to come, we had big debates about what was going on. I could care less what color Harry Potter in the movies eyes were I don’t know anybody that cares about his eyes, and actually how often do you do a close-up on someone’s eyes or nothing else that’s an action film I think people make up these things so that they can get other people to respond to them. What’s important was he was a very good actor as were the others.

A fictional character's physical depiction doesn't really matter.. as long as it works and doesn't mess with anything core to the story. Casting a character who's entire thing is the colour green as having blue eyes would matter to the symbolism.. Harry's eyes aren't important to the story. Neither is Ariel's skin colour.
