I spent a couple of years serving US Navy on USS Betelgeuse, It was formerly SS Columbia Victory. We decommissioned her and she was eventually sold for scrap. At one time we were crossing the N Atlantic from Charleston, SC to Holy Loch, Scotland in January, We encountered a 60 Ft wave that broke the hull, leaving a hole in the bottom of one of the holds and a fuel tank. We were repaired, and I continued to serve on her until decommissioning. Very fond memories provoked by your video. Thanks. ET1 Rich Hall.

Thank you for this wonderful & educational tour of this historic ship. Would you know how long it has been permanently docked at Tampa & its final sea-faring journey out at sea?

Hi PandaBlue36. Victory Ship "last sailed" questions are always very difficult to answer because they were usually converted into something else or experimented on by the military. The American Victory Ship, for example, was experimented on to see how long older war ships could be brought back to military status. It was brought back, sailed at sea for a little over a day in 1985 then returned to the naval reserve fleet. Hope that answers your question. Have a great day.

I was somewhere traveling and came across a ship where they treated it like an air B&B.. I often thought I would do that but can't remember where it was.. Old Minds gets lost !!

Can't help you there but I do know the Battleship New Jersey allows groups like boy scouts to do sleep overs. I did it with my boys one night. Worst sleep ever but glad we did it. The experience was awesome 👌

The tugs are pushing a fuel oil barge fueling a commercial vessel is an extremely long and complicated process as vessel stability has to be taken into account when loading hundreds of thousands of gallons of fuel so instead of a ship going to the fuel the fuel is brought to the ship

If you ever venture out west, you might check out the USS Batfish. It holds the record of sinking three Japanese submarines during one combat patrol.

Not exactly on your route but the USS Alabama in Mobile is a good floating museum. Maybe closer to your travels, the USS North Carolina in Wilmington NC is well done as well.

As pointed out in the video, mobility issues may be a challenge is some areas of the ship but a "heavy person" in general should be fine.
