A thematic analysis of Fantastic Mr. Fox. Basically what the visuals, dialogue, motifs, and general subtext all lead to, summed up in a simple, to-the-point and concise visual essay.
If you believe I'm wrong please discuss in the comments below. This is (hopefully) some sort of learning experience. I don't claim to know everything and would hate to lead someone else to a wrong conclusion. So if you can prove a film is saying something else based on evidence, please share.
Thank you.

Notice how everyone put up apple juice boxes except that kid. The kid puts up a grape juice box instead of an apple juice box meaning that he accepts being different.

not just that, but he's finally accepted his own femininity Ash has been trying throughout the film to be exactly like his father, but his nature proper isn't exactly a masculine archetype. or at least masculinity as epitomized by his school, his father's legacy and Kristofferson - the characters all say "different," but notice the hand gestures they do. They're desperately trying to not say that he's feminine or gay or queer - part of it was because Wes Anderson wanted to make a truly family-friendly film and, before Rebecca Sugar and Alex Hirsch really began pushing the boundaries of family-friendly LGBT representation, outright stating your LGBT themes was for adult fare. But having them not say he's LGBT makes it all the more powerful - they know he's different, but they don't want to say it outright out of fear he'll know that they're othering him. But Ash knows. All throughout the film he's othered - by his parents (maybe save for Felicity, but I haven't seen the film in about five years so I can't remember all that much), by his schoolmates (who constantly call him names, don't allow him to make use of his talents, spread rumors about him and attempt to attack him when they're having to evacuate the entire tree), by Kristofferson (the dialogue exchange that stands out to me is "I can fight my own fights." "No, you can't." He shows little to no sympathy for Ash, attempting to integrate him into his own substrain of masculinity and outright denying Ash's AUTONOMY when it comes to self-defense. And he's the most sympathetic character in the film), and, hell, anybody who meets him and accentuates his differences. He's different - he damn well knows this - and because society desperately wants him to be like Mr. Fox (in other terms, normalcy), Ash is driven almost to insanity and desperation.

I fail to see how Ash is gay, he has a crush on a girl for a start, Ash seems different to me in the sense that he's maybe a little on the autistic spectrum at best, and not very well built compared to others his age, I fail to see how that makes him gay, he doesn't fit in or blend with the social norm, none of those traits equal gay.

All the humanized animals were also a kind of bridge between the humans and the "wild" animals. It was to show that as more complex our human life may seem we still follow a similiar, if not he same pattern as animals. I mean the scenes were the animals are eating or when they had a fight, although they did it in an "animalistic" way it's very similar to ours. The simple act of eating, not it's function, is something very strange if you think about it, almost bizarre, but it doesn't seem that way to us because we are used to it. So it seems strange to us how animals eat but only from our point of perspective, all in all neither humans nor animals eat strange. Same with the fighting, when some people get angry they behave like wild animals. Think about the fact, that the things every one and each of these animals could do well, can be transferred to a specific type of human. So does the human have animal behaviour or vice versa OR does it even matter? I felt that the movie tried to show us that everything is more similar as one might think and after you realize that fact, things like racism or violence towards other living beings seems to be completely pointless. I felt an almost spiritual lesson from this movie. We humans seem more complex, when in fact in a bigger picture, we are not, because everything behaves the same, a same pattern. What are your views on this one?

I'm just sad I passed it up when it came out. I happened to see it come on the other day and I definitely liked it. While there were a lot of cookie-cutter and quite frankly random and disconnected moments, I feel that's kind of where they were going with the overall art style as well. Plus, props to the guys who made the visuals, claymation is tough and lengthy and they definitely experimented with what they could do. I really admire the work that must have gone into this.

@kombochifamba
@kombochifamba 20 күн бұрын
@@b4no746 from my understanding Mr Fox wasn’t afraid of wolves in the conventional sense. They just kinda represented everything he wanted to be and was reaching for… wolves were wild and free… whereas Mr Fox was to some degree domesticated and held back with what was considered to be social norms in their little animal village. So we see Mr Fox trying to communicate with the wolf using English first, then Latin… but the wolf still doesn’t understand what he is saying… this brings a tear to Mr Foxes eye, I assumed he was entranced by the beauty of this physical embodiment of freedom… he raises a fist, the wolf raises a fist… The raised fist signifying “solidarity between people joined in struggle”… and that was just beautiful to me. At least that’s how I took it.

I think another interpretable metaphor or moral besides the wild part is acceptance, and risks not paying off. Ash accepts he is different, Mr. Fox accepts his nature and defeat in certain times by Boggis, Bunce and Bean, and the farmers themselves accept defeat. Mr. Fox takes a risk buying a tree, stealing from the farmers, stealing again, getting his tail back. Ash and Kristofferson take the risk of trying to steal ash's father's tail back. the farmers sink an immense amount of time, effort, and presumably money into trying to find and kill Mr. Fox. none of these risks pay off in the movie, or at least not in ways that would be satisfactory, because they're not meant to.

It’s humanity at its purest. We have strived as humans for a more sophisticated, civilised life which we now see is prevalent across the world. However we never evolved for that. We are wild animals and still have those raw emotionally taxing instincts. This coupled with ash constantly comparing himself with his fantastic dad shows how society can deem some characteristics higher than others (at least during the adolescence years). Yet Fantastic Mr fox also struggles with identity occasionally (in a more confident way). Having read the book as a kid the film is “different” but its a heart warming classic that I cherish.

This was my favourite book as a child. I loved it so much, I rewrote the entire thing into a notebook XD Mr Fox is such a good character and I still use Mr Fox as a role-model 20-something years later. The fact that Wes Anderson was the one to bring this story to the screen just felt totally surreal. Like it was done just for me. I just needed to put this out into the world today so thanks to anyone reading and stay wild.

I put this movie on the shelf right next to 'Alpha and Omega'. I feel it's underrated, has a fair amount of mistakes and poor decisions, but it has likeable and relatable characters and you can pull a personal lesson or notice an aspect of yourself you may not have taken into consideration before, such as a personal quality. But unlike 'Alpha and Omega', some aspects, themes and points in this movie are closer to 'Happy Feet' meaning the producers were a bit more daring. I feel they give both the younger and older audience something to think about. For example, at the end of the scene were Mr. Fox considers handing himself over for Kristofferson, Mrs Fox says "I shouldn't have married you". That is a big statement which is rare in kids movies and to be honest, it almost shocked me to hear something so un-cliche. And the death of the rat. You realise that his alcoholism bought on his demise, and although I expected him to be out of the game (knocked out or a change of heart), his death was unexpected.

Fantastic Mr. Fox is a masterpiece. This is film done right. The Waterfall scene in particular is just the most breathtaking and chill inducing shots I have ever seen. In my opinion this movie’s cinematography and visuals are absolutely groundbreaking and amazing, seriously, it’s so ahead of it’s time and it’s hard to believe that this came out in 2009. It’s the reason I love this film so much and why it’s one of my all time favourites, it is because of how perfectly it’s made and executed and the amount of time and effort that went into this is insane and it absolutely payed off. I feel as though filmmaking nowadays has just gotten very lazy and that’s really, really sad and such a shame. I mean we’re in the 2020’s now and a long time ago I believed that films would’ve been more revolutionary and out of this world l, instead, they have just become mediocre and poor. Don’t get me wrong, there have been some gems here and there but not many and I’m sad that I was wrong. Its why quality over quantity will always be so much more important, it’s why films such as Fantastic Mr. Fox are perfect, flawless and timeless.

It’s definitely a movie that helps me cope with the idea of becoming the “adult”. I’m 23. I worry about disappointing that younger version of myself who was afraid of becoming domesticated (soulless or otherwise). But it’s nice to have reminders that we don’t have to just give up on our spirit. We can juggle responsibilities and happiness. We can be who we need to be and who we want to be at the same time, so long as we are honest about both.
