I remember how mad this scene made me. Her character is literally just angry that he's experiencing happiness at a hobby and that she doesn't get the justification to her anger that she was craving because he wasn't cheating. Everything she says to him is a projection of her unhappiness onto him. She's angry/ unhappy and it makes her mean and she wants him to be just as bad as her. I grew up with this with my mom. Sometimes you're having fun watching a comedy and then reality, like the physical personification from South Park, slaps you in the face and says, "F*** you!"

And that is why you aren’t in a relationship or at least a happy one. Leslie Mann’s character is 100% right. You never lie to your partner no matter how small it is, because the moment the lie gets revealed, you start losing the trust that’s supposed to tie the two of you together. Additionally, both persons in a relationship deserve alone time, not just the guy, and in a relationship, even after marriage, both partners need to keep going on dates.

The first time I saw this movie I didnt really understand Pete's perspective. I didnt realize how much I actually enjoyed doing things by myself (I did a lot of things by myself as a teenager) when I live with a Partner it would actually drive me nuts not being able to go do things on my own. Was work, home with her or doing something with her work again. Watching this movie again after the relationship ended (although there were other issues with the relationship) I realize I probably should have just been open with her that I needed alone time rather then letting my frustration build with not being able to have time to myself.

If a woman has it in her head that you have a flaw, nothing resembling logic will interfere with that. Some women(and men) need to get over their fragile little egos and learn to let things slide. She is not the center of his universe. She is a partner. You share a life. You don't share an oxygen tank. People who think they need each other need to revaluate. You DON'T need each other. You are only together because you share a love. That's it. There is no survival element in this. Both of you need to retain the option to leave if that love dies. Don't become dependent on each others thoughts and time. Your relationship will go down in flames. Been with a woman for 20 years happily married because we respect each others freedom. I don't need to know what she is doing all the time and vice versa. Because the moments we do choose to spend together and grow is that much more special when new things happen to the both us away from each other. Be open to learning and growing and learn to detach from each other. Recognize that the infatuation part of a relationship is fleeting and that REAL love has longevity and evolution. You will love, lust, hate, anger, despair, fear, adore, admire, envy, and respect each other over time. It WILL happen. The feelings are incidental. You are building a life together and have to roll with the punches and push through and the reward is a mature and natural progression. Use your brains. Not everything you FEEL is correct. Not everything you FEEL is incorrect. Use. your. brain. This goes for both men and women.

I like that the movie really puts the onus on both of them. Pete should not be lying and going being his wife’s back and Debbie really shouldn’t be overbearing and short fused. This movie did a great job giving the characters believable interpersonal problems. Not saying the problems are justifiable or reasonable, just that they are relatable to the types of interpersonal problems real people have, which is somewhat rare in movies. The main "problem" that the movie centers around - an unplanned pregnancy - is one of the most unrelatable problems, but even that is pretty relatable for a lot of people.

Pete shouldn’t have to lie about being able to do things on his own, I’ve seen couples who are extremely attached it’s weird to go on a fishing trip and the girl has to come and the group just accepts it, overly attached relationships are weird in a sense that if one does not have the other they seem off or have no identity of their own because of fear of offending their partner. Both here are wrong but time apart from one another can be healthy if done correctly and not a form of avoidance.
@packergeek10

Yep. Women become very co dependent. A husband couldn't go on a fishing trip for a weekend. The wife would ask why they don't do anything when the whole family just spent a whole week at Disney Land. She can go somewhere for a weekend and he just shrugs.

I realized after I got married and had kids is that wives do not like to see husbands content. I literally could have just finished mowing the lawn and hanging up my clothes and decide to play my game for a couple of hours after finishing choirs, and my wife would start nagging about how it’s not fair how I’m having so much time to myself and she doesn’t get to have that. Like lady I just did all the choirs and watched the kids while you would go to the grocery store. And don’t get me started on football season 😩
