Gamestop staff SHOULD be knowledgeable about games, just like people who work at a hobby shop know a lot about the majority of what's in the store, and like car salesmen know a lot about the cars on their lot.

@Colton Bergeron But you're still here? I must be doing something right. It's true I'm running low and looking at suggestions to jog my memory, but I'll ultimately be moving my content focus slowly this year in order to keep the channel interesting. Stephen and Adam still have quite a few stories to tell though.

@@FANTAVISION as much as it probably sounded like I was saying that from a place of assholyness, I wasn't. It was just my honest assessment of the situation lol. Your not one of my main channels I watch but when I refresh KZfaq ten times and can't find anything interesting and I see one of your videos I'll listen to it because I know you'll at least have some interesting things to say and hold my attention and there's somthing to be said about that. You seem very comfortable and natural on camera which for most people doesn't come natural. What type of content are you thinking of shifting to when for the most part the gamestop/Wal-Mart stuff is exhausted?

I tried reserving the PS4 slim after the announcement. 😍 But this GameStop chick kept arguing with me about its existence. 😑 "You mean the XB1 S?" "There is no PS4 slim." "I think those are internet rumors." Ugh. 😲 I left & didn't return until one of the actual gamer associates was working. He helped me very quickly.

My local GameStop for a few years had four guys who were knowledgeable and extremely nice. They made going in there so pleasant but they got a new manager last year and she progressively got rid of the old staff now nobody knows much and it's just overall not as great to go in. I used to be able to have conversations with the guys who worked there now it's go in get out they might ask what you're looking for or need help.

Oof, I feel this topic in my soul. I interned at a bookstore last year, and while the staff was knowledgable of the newest releases and, I guess, the genres they were into, something that struck me was the absolute lack of passion for books outside of what info could be used, when trying to sell and/or upsell the product they were pushing. Not one of them could name a podcast they liked to listen to about litterature and the subculture behind it. Not one of them knew what booktube was. Not one of them could tell me what books they were looking forward to personally in the coming months. Not one of them bothered reading anything that hadn't been published in my country in Danish, so I got blank looks, when I mentioned English releases that was all over my Twitter feed. They all just looked blank, when I asked how to expand my knowledge, so that I could to help customers find the right new book for them, and I just... couldn't believe it, man. Between that, the pressure to sell as much as possible at all times, and the fact that my boss probably only took me in for an unpaid internship because I was free labor and then proceeded to stress test my autistic ass until she ultimately was the one to concede defeat and sent me to the back to try and low-key force me to quit, I learned that I just don't want to work in a retail setting, if I can at all help it. I was ready to make a go of making it a career. I wanted to share my love of stories with people, and I really thought that was what it took, y'know? But now I know what it's like behind the scenes, and I really don't want to become a retail zombie devoid of passion beyond what's necessary. Back to school it is, I guess.

One time I was shopping at EB Games (many years ago) there was this lady who asked the clerk if Wii U was backwards with Wii games? The clerk (being clueless) told the lady "no". I owning (and still own) a Wii U, walked over to the counter and told her that the Wii U is backwards compatible. The clerk gave me the dirtiest look because I gave non intentionally better customer service than he did. I bought a Toad Wii remote plus (still have it). My buddy and I had a good and long discussion about games a week or so afterwards and I told him about that event (we laughed a bit).

At one point in my life I too wanted to work at GameStop. Video games were a major part of my life and it still is today. Not having many irl friends in my childhood, video games were one of the things that helped me get through hard and stressful times. I still love them today and when I have free time, I’d pop in a game and relieve memories and creating new ones. Great video, Fanta! Love your videos!

Hey Fanta, I just recently found you, and have been binge watching your content since. I currently work at gamestop, and we are at the top of our district and basically state. The reason I say this is now ALMOST EVERYTHING, us decided now by who your store manager is. For example, mine does not allow any check out by employees. You want a game you buy it. Also he refuses 10% off for open stock no matter what (and yes that is a thing available in the system, but they will only do it if someones steals the display case for that 'new' game) The only plus side (which my entire district does and most gamestop's do as I know) is GPG now covers anything but theft. As long as you can prove that's the game that had the protection you're covered.

I'm not kidding when I tell you that I tried to trade in my xbox one a couple months ago, during the test the lady employee put in a PS4 GAME inside the disc tray and we are trying to figure out why the game wont work (I didn't see that she put a ps4 game, I expected her to know what console works with what discs) then her manager told her to switch the game, and it's was a damn attack on titan for ps4. I wanted to bust out laughing but I didn't want to he rude. But in my mind, I was pissed off. Like I'm a regular, and that employee has been there for a while and she MUST KNOW where they keep what games.

I feel the same way about hardware stores. If you don't know the difference between a socket wrench and a monkey wrench or don't know what a claw hammer is..... you shouldn't be allowed to work at a hardware store. And yet (the very few times) I go to a hardware store I have to work my way through 3 people to find someone who knows where anything even is much less WHAT it is. Same thing with video games. Yur selling electronics and a specialty item, not potato chips or something else inconsequential.

Dude, I'm the same way when it comes to opening a NEW game. I stopped going to gamestop because every time I bought a 'new' game from them, they would take an open case, go and open a cabinet, pull a disc sleeve from the cabinet, and put the disc in the case. I would walk out of the store confused (I didn't know much back then, but I knew that I didn't get what I wanted) and irritated. I hear what you say and look back and wish I hadn't let them get away with that. If I bring a case from the floor that has the NEW sticker on it, as well as the price tag, then I want and am paying for an UNOPENED copy of the game - not the bullshit they gave me. I think I went back to the store once and asked that they exchange the used copy they gave me with the new one I paid for. That may have been the last time I ever bought anything from them.

As a previous Gamestop manager (2013-2018) and a manager for 22 years I do not hire people for their knowledge on gaming but their experience in sales and customer service. I was not terminated but resigned for a better opportunity. Knowledge comes in time when they borrow games and take Levelup training. As well as training your staff and development. My store achieved sales and profit for 4 years in a row and I was in the President Club. No associate could possibly know everything about every game. I do agree depending on your store and state location pay is extremely low. Trust me I am not defending GS and I have a channel that I’ll will soon post my past experience. Let’s just say I have a lot of context regarding the Circle of life and allocated payroll hours to shady District Managers. It wasn’t a bad company to work for when you hit your goals. Like every company your supervisor can make the job great or missable. Remember it’s a retail job and if you don’t make profit you can’t pay employees. I will admit for the pay it wasn’t worth the stress and I was a high salary manager.

I always wanted to work for gamestop, but the main manager kept saying, are you sure you want to work around guys all the time... It'll be uncomfortable. He didn't like that I didn't play halo type stuff... I was rpgs, nintendogs and animal crossing and anything fun quirky and wild. He wanted bros

Pretty sure that's discrimination. In the UK they'd be breaking equality and diversity laws.

The gamestop I worked at was about half and half. Half female, half Male, but also half shooters and main stream players and half "quirky" or underground games. It provided good balance.

To be fair I would rather pay 80$ for games than deal with micro transactions.

While I don't expect staff to know everything about every game, basic knowledge seems like it should come with the job. After all, in the survey, it asks if the rep recommended any games. How can a rep make a believable recommendation if they don't know what they're talking about? Most of the folk at my local GameStop are pretty good. I can easily spot the fakes. When they give recommendations, its obviously from a list since they don't even know enough about the game to identify the genre (for instance, I said I play JRPGs and they recommended Halo 2...).

Two diiferent things i did in 2 different games it was awesome. I was playing GTA Vice City i had the police after me and i hit a unique stunt jump and drove into the police helicopter and it crashed my PS2. I was playing Burnout Legends on PSP i was going so fast driving off the sides of the wall i flipped my car over and the game crashed.

Hey Fanta I got a question for you I got two friends at Gamestop and both were managers one was a senior manager and the other one was a manager for like 5 or 6 months. The one that was a senior manager has put alot of time and dedication towards her store and co workers. She knew how to run the place got along with everybody great she even hooked me up a few times cause they were certain items I was looking for hooking me up means letting me know that I have something aside for you that I know that you want but anyways I don't want to ask my friends what happened for them to leave Gamestop but what are your first thoughts that come in mind? The senior manager left her store right before New Years.

ThugKnight Senior Game Advisors aren’t really managers per say. They do a lot of manger duties but get paid terribly for the amount of work the job requires. Pretty much a manager that gamestop doesn’t want to pay a mangers pay. In my state the starting salary for one is $8.00/hr..... when cashiers at most other retailers make more than someone who’s pretty much a manger. Not to mention all the stress you get having to sell Warranties and Pre Orders and not getting commissioned for it. Bottom line it’s just not worth working at GameStop even if you’re passionate about video games it’s really draining working their since you’re not really compensated well. Hope I answered your question.

Bought black ops 4 for my PC because I thought blackout would be fun to get into. Turns out the game is really CPU intensive and feels bad to play on my system. No way to get a refund :( rip $60
