FANUC America Authorized System Integrator Farason Corporation developed this automated system to use 13 different FANUC robots to assemble a variety of proof coin sets. To accomplish this, each robot uses a custom-designed suction cup end of arm tool to help handle the coins and sets.
The system starts in the Insert Area, where a 6-axis FANUC LR Mate 200iD/7L Robot picks an insert from the magazine and presents it to an inspection camera for verification. The robot places inserts that pass inspection on the first main conveyor to be sent downstream for coin placement.
In the next area, two more FANUC LR Mate 200iD/7L Robots pick coins from trays and place them onto coin lane conveyors. Then, a series of six FANUC LR Mate 200iD Robots picks the coins off the conveyors and places them into the inserts. Multiple inspection cameras are used in this area to verify the correct coin type, as well as the location of the insert on the conveyor.
After that, another FANUC LR Mate 200iD/7L Robot picks top covers from the magazine and places them on the second main conveyor. The top covers are then sent downstream for insert placement.
In the next area, a FANUC LR-Mate 200iD Robot picks inserts off the first main conveyor. The custom designed End-of-Arm-Tool on this Robot is equipped with height checkers to verify that each coin is seated properly. The Robot places the inserts on the left side of the insert flipper, and then picks previously flipped inserts from the right side and places them in the top covers on the second main conveyor.
After another inspection, a FANUC LR Mate 200iD/7L Robot picks bottom covers from the magazine and places them on the coin sets on the second main conveyor. The conveyor sends the coin sets through the next area, where a lens closer presses down to close the top and bottom lenses on the coin set. The coin sets are then sent through a final inspection to verify that the coin set has been assembled properly.
Finally, a 6-Axis, FANUC M-10iA Robot picks the coin sets from the conveyor and places them on trolleys to be manually removed by operators. This robot uses an End-of-Arm-Tool that holds three coin sets at a time.

I find this insight interesting as an avid coin collector, including US Mint products. So glad human labor isn't doing that monotonous work.
