Post Metal is any metal that goes beyond the conventions of the format through experimental compositions so if a band has a black metal sound but does things that wouldn't normally fit into black metal, like adding jazz or country or trance or instruments that wouldn't work in a typical black metal band? They would be considered post black metal.

What about Taake playing banjo on one of the recordings? Surely no one calls Taake post-blackmetal, even though the recordings contains some experimental parts? Or what about very early bands like "Ved buens ende", experimentation in genres, even blackmetal, is nothing new.

I understand the textbook definition of post (black) metal, but it gets confusing really fast in real life, at least that's my feeling. 🙂

Has a cool sound, Admiral Angry did it first in 2008 with quite a bit more soul however, definitely oughta check it out if youre a fan of the doom soundtrack, aka being a fan of both sludge metal and Meshuggah type metal

I know that guitar player thing. I remember the first time I saw John Petrucci live and how amazingly effortless his playing is... especially this moment when he walks over to John Myung during a big complicated instrumental section. And they just stand in the middle of the stage having a casual chat while playing a song that would be incredibly difficult for me to play at best. At that moment my brain went, “you will never be that good.”

All guitars can be a guitar. I saw a death metal band a long time ago, they were from Spain and played at some club in san diego, CA they were amazing and one dude was playing a fender tele with single coils. They sounded amazing. They didn't speak any english at all though, so that was interesting meeting them and trying to talk heh.
