The scene where the old woman leaves Todd in the woods because she thinks he'd be safer, and his confused face... leaves me in tears every time! I have two dogs, both of them are rescues. @evancredeur7498 I'm glad you said something! I googled the spelling to double check, and I found out the meaning of the name tod/todd comes from a middle english word meaning "fox." So his name actually has double meaning! When the woman calls him a toddler, and the old english of what animal he is. Suoer cool, and I wouldn't have known this otherwise. Thanks!

The part where Chief gets hit by the train was actually a huge point of contention between animators. In the book this movie is based on, Chief dies from the impact, which many of the new, younger animators wanted to leave in, stating that it was necessary to give Copper a proper motive for revenge. However, the veteran animators wanted Chief to live saying that they had never killed off a main character before, and they weren't about to start now. Ultimately, the old guard won, but it caused a major riff between them and the new guard, and even contributed to Don Bluth leaving Disney to form his own animation company.

I didn't know that, so thank you, although in my personal opinion, i really like that Chief didn't die when he got hit by the train, i think it was the right decision to make, because i always like the fact that Chief accepted Tod in the end, because he saw how important Tod's friendship was to Copper.

I always felt, despite their going seperate ways at the end, in a way Copper and Tod kept their friendship. Though they may not see each other again (and who knows, maybe one day they do?), they remember their bond forever, and though apart, keep that bond, in ways such as thinking about the other and thinking, “I’ll never forget him. He will always be my very best friend, no matter what.” And maybe they make new friends, even new best friends, (which is perfectly OK) but they will hold a certain place in their hearts for each other. Friendships like theirs never die.

Man, I love this movie. I still cry when Todd is dropped off in the woods. But man, such a great story that realistically speaks to how friendships change over time. Fact of the matter is, we outgrow certain kinds of friendships in life…. but no matter what, you always hold on to those memories and what those bonds mean, even if you don’t hold on to the actual friendships.

I'm fine with them letting Chief surviveif only because it just leaves Copper with someone at the end. Todd has Vixey, Amos has the Widow, Big Mama has Boomer, and Copper has Chief (who probably doesn't have much longer to live anyway). Chief dying would have made Copper's anger at Todd more justifiable, but also just leaving him alone at the end after helping to save Todd's life just seems a little extreme even for a kids movie this intense...
@jamesa.romano8500
@jamesa.romano8500 Жыл бұрын
@@darrylvarney9837 I agree about Chief living although my point was that his dying wouldn't have been anywhere near as traumatic as the whole Bear thing. For emphasis I wasn't able to rewatch that scene in full until I was a full grown adult and even then on YT where I was free to pause or scroll down - as a kid it scared the hell out of me and not in the fun scary way like watching Freddy Krueger or a Universal Monster movie... like I was legit pissed at the people who made this movie for just pushing this scary AF bear out onto us without even so much as a warning (like they could have had Big Momma warn Todd "don't go near the waterfall that's where the evil bear lives" or something). I feel like it was almost TOO intense and I think that's part of the film's tonal problem in that it tried to dial back the intensity in some parts to the point where it was almost too childish (see: all of Boomer's scenes) and then just at the end they randomly decided to go full nightmare fuel for like no reason at all
@darrylvarney9837
@darrylvarney9837 Жыл бұрын
@@jamesa.romano8500 I'll admit the bear scene is pretty intense, but I don't know if it's THAT bad... at least compared to say Hunchback or the Death of Mufasa or something
@jamesa.romano8500
@jamesa.romano8500 Жыл бұрын
@@darrylvarney9837 Well Hunchback is perpetually dark throughout and has the Gargoyles for comic relief (even if they tend to hurt more than help overall) and even the Stampede sequence had Zasu getting knocked out which I know for a fact got a few chuckles from the audience before they really knew what was going on. I feel like Balto handled a similar scene better in that it balanced out the scene with some comic relief from the side characters... F&tH went through the trouble of introducing kid friendly sidekicks like Boomer and Big Mama so why not use them? Like have them briefly flutter around to distract the Bear to help Todd get away for a few seconds? The scene as it is was just WAY too dead serious IMO and is part of the reason there's a major tonal problem for the movie overall that borders on schizophrenic.I also think Bambi has a similar tonal problem although in that case it is more obvious and has been more widely commented on (having the birds singing cheerfully in the immediate scene following the death of Bambi's mom) Just my opinion although we do KNOW this movie suffered from having "too many cooks"

Now the Fox and the Hound is another level of emotion scarring for me. When Tweed had to leave Todd in the woods it emotionally and mentally fucked me up as a child. I had such emotional breakdowns over this one scene. Now matter how many times I watched the movie growing up and it got to that sad scene, I couldn’t help my cry my heart out. I still cry on that sad scene to this day. That scene emotionally and mentally hurt my heart and soul.

The only remedy I know for this is imagination, and from experience, it’s pretty effective. Imagine an alternate ending that resolves this (only if you want, of course). It can literally be anything! If you’d like some inspiration, here’s my own imagining (I too found this scene difficult to view) (Don’t read the next part if you want to imagine your own ending, though) : you see at the end, Tod and Vixie looking over the cliff at the farm, where Tweed and Amos are? From there, Tod runs down to the farm, and smiles at Copper, but runs to Tweed and they reunite, and he shows her Vixie. She then understands that he’s happy to be a wild fox now, but Tweed will always be special to him, and he will always visit her. And one day, when Tweed is walking in the forest, now with an extra appreciation for nature, she meets with Tod and Vixie, and they introduce their six cubs to her!

Short answer, yes foxes can be domesticated. There was actually an experiment done by the Russians starting in the 50s or something and they were shocked with how quickly you could domesticate them with selective breeding and the program is still going as far as I know. That group sold the domesticated ones as pets to fund it

One of the most beautiful friendships. My 3rd favourite Disney animated movie. Tod's abandonment seems to be in the top 10 or even 5 of Disney's saddest scenes. Get's me every single time! Copper is a Bloodhound, they are the ultimate trackers, when they smell a trail, they follow it until they find the source. Foxes are monogamous. Wild foxes are not tameable, but an ongoing Siberian genetic experiment, with selection by meekness (i.e. the absence of escape aptitude) has created the domesticated fox breed.

I was in the 4th grade and we were watching this movie in class, and when the old lady dropped Tod off in the woods, looked back at him, and the music started playing, a tear ran down my face. I wiped my face so quickly so no one in class would notice. This movie doesn't get the credit it deserves IMO...

22:09 happened to me once. I shit you not. My parents watched it happen. It wasn't shooting but our dog, still a puppy, was sniffing around on the side of the road, still on our property, the neighborhood most hated guy drives by, he was on the OTHER side of the road, and he drives over to the side our dog was on, there was no other cars or people on the road to avoid, and there was no turn, he drove to the side our dog was on intentionally, hit it, and she didn't survive. They took them to court over it but didn't have proof so he got away with it, sad thing is my mom was friends with his wife, and they had a falling out, but said wife also left the guy after that. Sucks because they had 3 kids too.

Foxes can be semi-domesticated by handlers who are prepared, but not the way Todd is. They're very, very active and curious and need a lot of room to run around and explore, especially while growing up, and they need a specific diet. Todd is presented as more of a house pet and it is understandable of the widow to want to take the defenseless cub in, but foxes are still wild animals by nature.

Technicolor is a series of color motion picture processes, the first version dating back to 1916,and followed by improved versions over several decades. In 1997, Technicolor reintroduced the dye transfer process to general film printing. A refined version of the printing process of the 1960s and 1970s, it was used on a limited basis in the restorations of films such as The Wizard of Oz, Gone With the Wind, Rear Window, Funny Girl, and Apocalypse Now Redux. After its reintroduction, the dye transfer process was used in several big-budget, modern Hollywood productions. These included Bulworth, The Thin Red Line, Godzilla, Toy Story 2, and Pearl Harbor. The dye-transfer process was discontinued by Technicolor in 2002 after the company was purchased by Thomson. On June 24, 2020, Technicolor filed for Chapter 15 bankruptcy in the United States, citing COVID-19 as the reason for its impact. In May 2021, Technicolor's post-production unit was acquired by Streamland Media.On September 27, 2022, Technicolor SA, which maintains the IoT, broadband and video solution businesses, rebranded as Vantiva, while the VFX, motion graphics and animation businesses now operated by Technicolor Creative Studios; these two were spun-off as the publicly independent companies.
